Hi Tim, We do have an enhancement request for the functionality you mention.   Add an additional option to Convert Labels to Annotation that allows annotation to be created in just one feature class. Label classes would be merged based on name, scale, and text symbol. Feature-linked annotation would not be allowed in this case.  The reason that you're seeing the annotation classes collapse into one class is that they are named the same and have the same properties.    in the example below the annotation classes were appended together but the text symbols were different as their colours were pulled from the symbols.  so in that case the classes were appended individually. in this next case, the text symbols and scale ranes of the annotation are the same and the names of the annotation classes are the same.  so the annotation classes have been combined - except for the Circle 5 class as it does not have a corresponding class. Hi Adrian, You've got two different things going on here.  And you are correct that one of them is only possible in Arcmap. When I double click on the data frame and then add the labels, they're fixed geographically This is map annotation and it is not available in Pro.  You are placing the text in a map annotation layer. About adding new text to a map—Help | ArcGIS Desktop  if I add labels in layout view, they're fixed without the layout view. If I geographically move the map, the labels stay fixed where I put them This is graphic text on a layout.  it is available in both ArcMap and Pro.  it is placed on the layout and not tied to the data on the map. https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/help/layouts/add-and-modify-graphics-and-text.htm  The equivalent to map annotation in Pro is geodatabase annotation.  It is annotation just the same but is stored in a geodatabase instead of the map.  This makes it reusable for other projects. Annotation—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop  Adding labels/text in layout view as graphic text is not recommended.  Any change to the scale or extent of your map will render the text useless as it's just on the "glass" over the map not actually "in" the map as part of it. thanks Wendy ... Hi Nicholas, This wouldn't be a conflict between the different Maplex labeling styles.  It is probably due to the municipal boundaries layer having a high weight set to it.  Which would also explain why adding it in again would fix the issue as the weight would be reset to 0.  do you have a copy of the old project where you could check the weights? thanks Wendy ... ohhh - I saw something like this last week... try exporting the data out to a file gdb and run the repair geometry gp tool on it with the OGC validation method. then put it back into sql server. let me know how that goes. thanks Wendy ... View more

Hi Shane, SQL Server 2008/2008R2 are not supported with Pro 2.2.  SQL Server 2016 is though.  Are you seeing the issue on both? The best way to deal with this will be to log a support call so that we can take a look at the data and get a repro case. thanks Wendy ... View more
