One more update before the end of 2022! The QuickCapture mobile app has been updated in the Apple, Google Play and Microsoft app stores. The build number is now 1.16.292. As usual, all your existing projects will continue to work with this new release, but there is a lot more to this release than that... What's new in ArcGIS QuickCapture December 2022 New Automatically update projects organization setting The world changes quickly, so it is no surprise that you need to make changes to your QuickCapture projects, even while they are actively being used in the field. Through a new organization setting, ArcGIS administrators can configure ArcGIS QuickCapture to automatically (and transparently) download project updates. This new organization setting will help you keep all mobile users up-to-date with the latest changes to your QuickCapture projects. Barcode scanning for user inputs User inputs in QuickCapture allow you to quickly collect extra attribute information about the observations you make. As the author of QuickCapture projects, you can easily activate the barcode scanner in project and button user inputs, as shown in the animation below. Once barcode scanning is enabled, mobile users can scan barcodes of different formats to quickly populate GIS attributes. Faster user inputs Not long ago we added support for chaining project and button user inputs. With this update, you will no longer need to tap on Done in order to move from one to the next. As soon as you make a selection on your user input, it will jump to the next. The animation below shows a QuickCapture project used to document rock climbing routes. The name of the route, its difficulty (grade), style and number of pitches are modelled as user inputs. Note how user inputs are presented automatically once a selection is made. Fewer taps, quicker data capture! Video recording (Beta) We will officially add video recording capabilities to the QuickCapture mobile app in our next update. However, through a small hack, you can already take advantage of this beta capability. All you need to do is to edit the QuickCapture project JSON as described in the following animation: Once video is enabled in your QuickCapture button, you will be able to either record video or take a photo when the QuickCapture mobile app opens your device camera. Learn more Check the What’s new help topic for more information about this and previous releases. If you have any comments, questions or want to access more technical articles, join our Esri Community QuickCapture group. Happy QuickCapturing!

ArcGIS QuickCapture will store your XY coordinates in whatever spatial reference is set in your layer. For example, if your feature layer is using a projected coordinate system, ArcGIS QuickCapture will store your geometries in that projection. If your feature layer uses EPSG:4326, all geometries will go with that... The Latitude and Longitude device variables allow you to ALSO store the Lat / Lon values as GIS attributes in your layer. If your layer is on lat/lon and you want to extract the XY values in a projected coordinate system of your choice, you can use the Project tool. This Esri Tech Support article may also be of help: https://support.esri.com/en/technical-article/000028012 Hope it helps.

On December 8, 2022, we hosted a 60' webinar to review what's new in ArcGIS Survey123. Thanks to all who attended! Below you will find the slides, recording and common questions asked. Recording Slides Find the slides attached at the bottom of this message, or click here. Common questions When should I use the Survey123 website to author my surveys versus ArcGIS Survey123 Connect? The advantage of the Survey123 website authoring tools is their ease of use: you can start creating surveys with no training. The question types and smart survey features available through the Survey123 website authoring tools are limited but are sufficient for basic surveys. If you need more advanced question types or more complex rules, you'll need ArcGIS Survey123 Connect. In either case, your surveys will be displayed in the Survey123 website survey gallery, and you can share them and analyze your collected results in the Survey123 website as well. For a detailed description of the survey design options available in each tool, check this help topic. Can I use CAPTCHA in Survey123 Connect? Yes! Add a note type of question, set its name to generated_note_prompt_captcha and its label. You can also optionally add a hint. The CAPTCHA question will not show in the Connect preview, but it will in the web app. After adding your CAPTCHA question, publish and test your form using a web browser. I like the Survey123 web designer option to translate a survey into multiple languages. Is that available in Survey123 Connect too? Yes, we added multilingual authoring of surveys in Connect back in 2019. Check details in this help topic or this blog post. Can I configure Survey123 so different templates are shown to different groups of people in my organization? I work for a City. I want the Fire Department to see templates that are different to those available to the Police Dept. Yes. This is possible. If you want to make a template available to all Survey123 users, share it with the custom templates group and with the entire org. If you want to make a template only available to the Fire Dept, share it with the custom templates group and with the Fire Dept group only. That would do the trick! Where can I learn more about pulldata("@layer")? Check this blog post , this help topic, and this recorded session. Can I use the pulldata("@layer") function to take a geoshape value and query a point layer? Yes, you can use a polygon to lookup a point layer, but please note that the result from pulldata @layer will always be 1 record so only 1 point feature will be returned. You can have pulldata sort your query results by field or refine your pulldata query with a where statement to narrow things down. Do you have to republish the survey when upgrading the XLSForm template? No, unless you are making changes to your survey, you don’t need to republish the survey after updating the XLSForm template. The template update is mainly for you to have the latest tools available when maintaining your survey. Does pulldata with @layer work with related tables? Yes, pulldata @layer only needs a REST endpoint so all you would need to provide is the REST endpoint for the related table. Additionally, you can use the pulldata function in XLSForm expressions for questions within a repeat. For Survey123 Connect, to confirm, if we're using an existing feature service through submission_url, the choice list will not update the domain list? And are there plans to have that similar functionality as with republishing from Survey123 managed feature services? You are correct. Survey123 Connect will never update a feature service schema, or domains, if you are using the submission_url setting. We have no plans to change this behavior. In the Survey123 web designer, only certain types of question types support calculations and visibility rules. Are there any plans to expand this capabilities? Yes, we will do this progressively. Can I make surveys authored in Connect publicly available? Yes. Publish your survey and then share it publicly using the Survey123 website's collaborate tab. Publish from Connect, manage from the Survey123 website. The screenshot below shows how you can open your Survey123 connect surveys in the Survey123 website. When is the Microsoft Power Automate Survey123 connector going to include the Create report action? We are aiming at having a preview for Early Adopters in January and a General release shortly after, in February 2023. Stay tuned as we will be announcing availability in the Esri Community ArcGIS Survey123 blog and Survey123 Early Adopter website. Do I need a Premium Microsoft license to use the Create report action? What about downloading the reports? Do I need to use the Premium HTTP module? No. The Create report action will be part of the existing Survey123 connector. Microsoft Power Automate includes options that allow you to bring your Survey123 PDF reports into OneDrive without a Premium license, as shown in the screenshot below. Miscellaneus 127 people joined this live session. Below is map showing rough locations from which you connected.

@alyssajhnsn We made some progress with this. The software defect is logged as BUG-000153480 If a question outside the repeat is using the same relevant expression as a begin repeat with minimal appearance, the ArcGIS Survey123 web app 3.16 returns the error message... We are aiming at addressing this in February 2023. In the meantime, avoid repeats with both repeat_count and a relevant expression. I made minimum changes to your design to get it going. See the file attached to this message. I removed the repeat_count. As an alternative to repeat_count, you could build some logic to display a message if the number of records in the repeat does not meet criteria. You could also use a constraint, on top of the warning note, to make the collection more robust. Sorry for the bump with this. Hopefully you can take it from here.

Read this blog to learn what's new in ArcGIS Survey123 December 2022. This update includes new features in the Survey123 web designer and a good collection of critical fixes in the Survey123 Connect, mobile and web app components. What's new in the Survey123 web designer Multilingual authoring Using multilingual surveys you can present questions to your audience in the language they are most comfortable with, and analyze all results in a single data set. We added support for authoring multilingual surveys in Survey123 Connect back in 2019. Today, you can also do it, visually, in the Survey123 web designer. Check out this 2 minute video for details. Access the survey language editor as shown in the animation below: Translate everything in your survey: title, question labels, hints, thank you screen, header, footer... You can translate your survey into all languages supported by ArcGIS including Arabic, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Simplified Chinese, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Traditional Chinese (Taiwan), Traditional Chinese (Hong Kong), Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese. If you want to translate your survey into a language not included above, let us know through ArcGIS Ideas or simply leave a comment below. CAPTCHA CAPTCHA is used to prevent bots from automating survey responses through a publicly shared Survey123 web form. Check below how you can activate CAPTCHA in your web surveys. Within the Survey123 web designer, the CAPTCHA control has a Beta sticker. We are still giving the final touches on this feature, but with this update we wanted to make it easily available so you can start experimenting with it. Please note that CAPTCHA will not prevent users from submitting a survey multiple times. If you want to prevent multiple submissions from a respondent, use the 'Multiple submissions' section in the Collaborate tab. Fixes and other enhancements Survey123 Connect (version 3.16.110) BUG-000153696 Survey123 Connect fails to publish a survey with error "Fields not found in the feature service: 0" when using an existing feature service if a question label don't match the field alias in the feature service BUG-000117385 Coded integer values in a feature service created by ArcGIS Survey123 Connect are not appearing in the web app attribute table. DE-000005891 ENH-000127565 Enhance Survey123 Connect so that the “repeat _count” field is not added to the schema and therefore not required in the feature service. Survey123 mobile and desktop apps (version 3.16.113) ENH-000135042 Allow for Survey123 Mobile App to send users back to the log in page after password is changed when using Portal for ArcGIS accounts configured with IWA BUG-000151353 Select_one questions in a webhook output are a numeric type only when submitted from the ArcGIS Survey123 field app. BUG-000151226 Using dynamic labels in groups with the table-list appearance fails to display the select-one question dynamic label in ArcGIS Survey123. Survey123 website BUG-000139808 The Survey123 website includes ((1=1) AND (1=1)) in some http requests. While logically correct, it appears as a potential SQL injection attack on some firewalls. Survey123 web app DE-000005996 BUG-000153480 If a question outside the repeat is using the same relevant expression as a begin repeat with minimal appearance, the ArcGIS Survey123 web app 3.16 returns the error message, "Error: Initializing form...TypeError: this.form.repeatPathPrefixes is not iterable" BUG-000149572 The ArcGIS Survey123 web app does not allow making a selection for the select_one question with a relevant expression when the form contains a repeat question with a minimal appearance and a label comprised of a static word and a dynamic value pulled from another question BUG-000151923 If a "required" question is hidden by an expression in the "body::esri:visible" column, the ArcGIS Survey123 web app does not allow submission while the ArcGIS Survey123 field app accepts submission Survey123 Report service ENH-000138219 ArcGIS Survey123 Feature Report Template: Allow the extent of the map to be defined by new method mapExtent BUG-000151084 When printing a summary report with a large amount of input data (multiple layers and many records), the print task fails sometimes with an uncaught exception BUG-000151025 In the ArcGIS Survey123 report service, the error message "400: Cannot perform query." is returned when using outFields and returnDistinctValues in the report template What's coming next We are delighted about the hard work underway to bring new capabilities and enhancements into the new year. Location sharing in the mobile app and generating reports with Microsoft Power Automate will be here before you know it! We are also working on new enhancements to the web designer including new question types and more advanced features. A great way to stay in the know and play a role in influencing product design is to join the Survey123 Early Adopter beta program. By joining the program, you get a first look at what’s coming, test new features, and provide valuable feedback to the Survey123 team. Survey123 updates are wholly influenced by users like you. You don’t have to be in the Beta program to share with us your experience. Please let us know at any time what’s working, what’s not, and what you would like to see in future releases by posting on the Esri Community Ideas board. To learn more Check the What's new in Survey123 December 2022 webinar for live demos and a more in-depth discussion. The recording, slides and Q&A of this session are now available! If you want to see the new features in action, or want to ask questions, join our What's new webinar on Thursday December 8 at 9:00am PST.

@alyssajhnsn While there are some issues in the Survey12 design, as highlighted by @JenniferAcunto, the fundamental problem is caused by what looks to be a BUG in the software. We are still investigating the root cause. At first sight it seems to be related to the combination of repeats, with repeat_count, relevant statements and the minimal appearance. I suggest you open a Tech Support Incident so this is logged more formally. We will continue researching on our side to understand the problem better.

Do you want to control the exact naming of image files submitted through a Survey123 form? It is possible! Using an XLSForm expression, you can set meaningful file names to photos and signatures collected via the Survey123 web and field apps. The concept Look at the screenshot below. Note how the file name of the photo has been automatically set to combine previously entered information: The Job ID and Service Type. You can set the file name of photos, but also signatures. For example, in a Building Permit Application form you may want to compose the file name of a signature using the full name of the requestor plus the exact date and time when the application is submitted. Having full control over the file names uploaded into ArcGIS is particularly beneficial when you plan to download your data, including attachments, in the future. The XLSForm basics To control the name of the files you upload from Survey123 into ArcGIS, you need to use the fileName parameter in the bind::esri:parameters column, as shown below. Here are some examples: The name of a photo combines the job ID, type and the current time. The name given to the signature image file combines the inspector full name with the current time. Rules and tips Here are some rules to properly set the file name: Avoid spaces and the following special characters: \ / : * ? < > ; | . , ". The file name must be unique: Otherwise, you will have trouble either attempting to upload, or when you download the file in the future. Keep file names under 140 characters If you do not follow the rules above, the Survey123 mobile and web apps will override your file name with one that complies with the rules. Tips: Always use a time stamp as a suffix to make your file names unique. For example: fileName=concat("Photo_",format_date(now(),"%y%m%d%H%M%S")) Using a time stamp as a suffix, does not guarantee uniqueness if you have multiple image questions. If your survey includes multiple image questions, add the question name as a prefix to avoid the possibility of duplicates. If you want users to upload more than one photo using a single image question in your form, use the multiline appearance. More details here. When using the multiline appearance, the time stamp suffix alone will make every file name unique. If you want to extract and store the file name into a separate field, use a calculation On supported in the mobile app: If you want to show or hide the file name to end users, use the fileNameVisible parameter. Similarly, the allowRename parameter is used to control if the file name is shown as read-only or not. You can combine fileNameVisible. allowRename and fileName properties by adding a space between them: fileName=concat("Student_Photo_", $(first_name},"_",${last_name}) fileNameVisible=false fileName=concat("Student_", $(fullname}) fileNameVisible=true allowRename=false Read the Customize file names section of this help topic to learn more.

The max-pixels parameter should do the trick. If authoring the survey from the web designer, we added one option to limit the size of photos and files. Both of these options should work from both the web and mobile/desktop apps. Otherwise, a software defect should be logged.
