Geometry layer not showing in AGOL map viewer from S123 mobile

relationship class key cannot be string?
I've got this error. Unsupported relationship type esriFieldTypeString in key Field. So I can't use a string for a key?? I get that Esri seems to want to force us to use GUIDs and GlobalIDs for keys in relationship classes… but why can't I have a key be whatever I want in a relationship class?
