    A minor update to version 3.15 was made available on September 20, 2022. Details here. Fixed a bug that prevented URL callbacks when using the edit action Fixed a bug in which Survey123 links would open the Overview folder when Collect was disabled. Fixed a bug in which social logins were being cached and would not sign out. Fixed a bug that was preventing the sign-in page from opening in the correct language. Fixed a bug in which the number of records returned in the Inbox was limited to the maxRecordCount set on the feature service. The Inbox can now contain a maximum of 5,000 survey responses. See Enable editing. Read the What's new help topic for more information about this and previous releases.   What's coming next   We have at least two updates planned between now and the end of 2023. In October  26, 2022, we will release version 3.16. This will be a major release with fixes and new features. One more release will follow before the end of the year. Here are some of features we have in the works for these immediate updates.  They are all available now for testing through our Early Adopter Community site. Query ArcGIS layers from your Survey123 forms (including public surveys): Do you want to automatically calculate a parcel ID through a point in polygon query? Do you want to know how many records have been already submitted into a survey to create a constraint? Of course, you can query layers today in Survey123 using custom JS functions, but we all know JS functions will not work in a public survey and to some, they have a steep learning curve. Starting with version 3.16, you will be able to configure your Survey123 forms to query layers using new options in the Survey123 web designer and Connect. In the Survey123 web designer, calculations will now support querying layers.   To watch this in action, check this video. No coding required and your calculations will work in public surveys. If using Survey123 Connect, the new pulldata(“@layer”) functions will let you perform attribute and spatial queries without the need for a custom JavaScript function. And yes, your queries will work even if your survey is public too. This feature is planned for our October update. New audio question file type in web designer: Audio recording is available in Connect. Now coming into designer. Record up to 20 minutes. Survey123 Connect enhancements: We are adding many enhancements into Survey123 Connect to help you keep lists in your forms in sync with field coded value domains.  Connect will create as usual field domains for your XLSForm lists when the survey is originally published. Additionally, when you republish your survey with changes to your lists, you will have an option to update field domains accordingly.  We will apply a similar logic to field aliases. Planned for October. ArcGIS organizational templates: To aid with consistent Survey123 form design, some organizations want to define a set of custom templates that can be used as a starting point for new survey designs. Starting with version 3.16, both Survey123 Connect and the Survey123 web designer will support the concept of Survey123 organizational templates. Administrators will be able to define an ArcGIS group of Survey123 templates. Any survey shared to that group will automatically be shown in Connect and Designer as a new template to survey authors. Full details about these and other features in the works are available through the Early Adopter Community site. This is great timing to give us your feedback. Planned for October. Multilingual surveys in Survey123 designer. Multilingual survey support has been available in Survey123 Connect for a while. With this release, you will be able to translate your survey into multiple languages, right from within the Survey123 web designer.  Translate everything from the survey labels to list choices, images and notes, survey title, thank you screen, footer and more. Multilingual surveys in designer will likely be made available in our December release.   In a Survey123 form, you can automatically set the value of a question using an XLSForm expression in the calculation column. In the following example, the asset condition value is automatically calculated based on a checklist. If the three elements in the checklist are ticked, the condition is set to Good, otherwise the value is set to Needs repair.   Calculations are used for different purposes. Sometimes, we want to save the end user from answering questions for which we already know the answer. For example, the age of a person can be automatically calculated if we already know the birth date.  If we are given the length of a pipe and the price per meter, we can also calculate the total price of the pipe.   In other occasions, we use calculations to provide a best guess, which the user can override. This blog post introduces the concept of calculation modes. They will allow you to better control when  calculations are evaluated. Calculation mode: auto   Unless specified otherwise, calculations are always executed in auto mode. When in auto mode, calculation expressions are evaluated when any of the inputs in the calculation expression change. For example, say you write a calculation to convert a temperature value from Fahrenheit to Celsius. Whenever the Fahrenheit value changes, the Celsius temperature is calculated.   Calculations in auto mode will not overwrite a value entered by the end user. For example, if the end user manually enters a value in the calculated question, the temperature conversion will be suspended. Note in the animation below how the Celsius temperature stops being automatically calculated as soon as its value is manually set to 34.   While the calculation is suspended, Survey123 will display a Calculate icon on the side to allow the end user to manually trigger the calculation. Only if the end user taps on that button to run the calculation, the expression will be evaluated again.   Calculations in auto mode are also suspended when an existing record is loaded into a survey. That is, when you open a survey from the Inbox, or when you load a record into the web app to edit it. This is because, again, in auto mode we do not want to overwrite a value that may have been manually added by the user. In the vast majority of cases, you will find the auto calculation mode fit well your workflow. You do not need to do anything special to set your calculation in auto mode: Add an expression into the calculation mode, and you are set!   If you want to set the calculation mode explicitly, go into the bind::esri:parameters column, and add calculationMode=auto, as shown in the next screenshot. The auto calculation mode is supported in both the field and web apps. Calculation mode: manual   This one is easy. The question will only calculate when the Calculate button next to the question is pressed. This calculation mode is only supported in the field app. The Survey123 web app does not support it. Calculation mode: always   Set the calculationMode to always, and your calculation will never be suspended. It will run always, no exceptions. If the user manually resets the calculated value, as soon as any referenced variable in the calculation changes, the expression will be evaluated.The calculation will also be triggered when the form is submitted, just in case! I find calculationMode=always particularly useful when working with the Inbox. Lets take the example in the screenshot below: Row 6 is using calculationMode=always because we want its value to be always calculated, even if the record is opened in edit mode.  In the example above, if you keep the calculationMode as auto, the inspected_by value would remain unchanged if you open the record from the Inbox. Here you have another variation of the survey: In this case, the survey uses a repeat, so you can have information about the asset, and a history of all inspections performed. We use calculationMode=always to keep the last inspection date and last known condition up to date.  Both of these values use data from the inspections table. Again, calculationMode=always helps us make sure these values are refreshed even if he record is loaded from the Inbox. This calculation mode is only supported in the field app. The Survey123 web app does not support it. Calculation mode: whenEmpty   As you may expect, calculationMode=whenEmpty will only trigger the calculation when the target question is empty.  If you are creating a new record or editing it, makes no difference: this calculation mode will be triggered if the question is empty.  Once a nonempty value is returned, the question behaves in the same way as the manual mode. Check row 7 in the screenshot below. In this case we use calculationMode=whenEmpty to populate the inspection date with the current time, but only if the value is empty. That is, if you are opening an inspection record from the past, the value will not be overwritten, but if you are creating a new inspection record, the value will be automatically populated. This calculation mode is only supported in the field app. The Survey123 web app does not support it. Force calculations in the Survey123 web app   The Survey123 web application, at the time when I write this, only supports the auto calculation mode. However, if you happen to be using the Survey123 web app to edit a record, and you want certain calculations to be triggered when the record is loaded, you can. The recalculate url parameter allows you to specify which questions should be recalculated when the form is opened in edit mode.  If you are not familiar with web app url parameters, check this blog. For example: ?recalculate=field:inspector,field:inspection_date will trigger calculations, and overwrite existing values, for the inspector and inspection_date questions. Can you use referenced layers from ArcGIS Enterprise in QuickCapture? Including pictures? Yes. Can I use the app without ArcGIS Pro? Yes, but there are details to this. To use the QuickCapture mobile app, you just need to download it from the app store (iOS, Android, Microsoft) and login with a Mobile Worker, or above user type.  To create new QuickCapture projects, you need a Creator or above user type. You do not need ArcGIS Pro o create QuickCapture projects. However, you can use ArcGIS Pro to make Mobile Map Packages that you can use later in your QuickCapture projects. Does it work in areas without service? Yes. Once you download a QuickCapture projects into your mobile device, you will be able to collect data even if disconnected. Unless configured otherwise, QuickCapture will automatically upload collected data once you reconnect to the network. You mentioned being able to collect data using voice commands. Can we see an example of that? See details here When you take a photo on the QC app, is that picture also stored on your phone? or ONLY as an attachment in ArcGIS. Photos are stored as ArcGIS attachments only. You will not see photos collected with QuickCapture in your photo camera roll. What is the difference between Survey123 and QuickCapture? QuickCapture is for rapid data collection. Use it for projects where people want to quickly collect simple field observations: Location, photo and one or more manual attributes at most. Survey123 comes handy when you need to collect more information. Think longer forms where you need to collect many different attributes.  You can collect also lines and polygons with both Survey123 and QuickCapture. A key difference is that with QuickCapture you can collect multiple features at once. For example, you can record a point event while a line is being created. You do not have to stop the line before you can collect the point.  Survey123 has some additional capabilities missing in QuickCapture including: support to edit existing features, photo markup and additional question types such as checklists and others.  If you want the best of both, explore the use of link buttons to launch your Survey123 forms right from within ArcGIS QuickCapture.  What are link buttons?
