There's no current plans to allow setting the coordinate system of the map by choosing from a list, the coordinate system is defined when the map is created - you can make a map that has a different coordinate system by basing the new map on a service that has the coordinate system that you want to use (click New Map split button, choose Advanced, and then choose service URL). There's one important caveat - the existing provided basemaps are tiled services in the web mercator coordinate system, so can't be used any more. See this help topic for more info: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisexplorer/help/#/Create_a_new_map/01560000003t000000/ And see the Note at the bottom: "If the spatial reference of the basemap is not Web Mercator, the basemaps in the Basemap gallery will be disabled. Each new map is displayed using the spatial reference of the basemap source. If you later want to add a tiled map service to the map, it must match the spatial reference of the basemap; if it doesn't it will be added as a dynamic map service. Dynamic map services will be projected on the fly."

Hi Pedro, You can install ArcGIS Explorer Desktop on a machine that you use Explorer Online on, they will not affect eachother. (I would guess that it was Microsoft Silverlight you had to install to run ArcGIS Explorer Online - a plug-in for your browser, it doesnt install any other things on your machine; ArcGIS Explorer Desktop does not use Silverlight at all.) Hope this helps some,

Hi George, I dont know of an official reporting channel (there may be one, I'm not aware of anything though) - but I think a good place to start would be either the ArcGIS Online forum, or the Community Basemaps forum. I wasnt 100% sure which forum would be best, so I didnt move this thread over, but I think I would start with the ArcGIS Online forum as I know that's quite active. http://forums.arcgis.com/forums/30-ArcGIS-Online http://forums.arcgis.com/forums/87-Community-Maps

Hi Jerry, I'm afraid not, there's no changing of the ribbon possible at run time. The contents of the ribbon tabs are all worked out when the application loads, for example any new Add-Ins are found and loaded into the Add-Ins tab at that point. I dont even know any ways that you could work around this behind the scenes I'm afraid.

Hi Margo, I'm afraid theres no API provided in Explorer to do what you're after - there is no application framework API included so no programmatic automation of the user interface (like programmatically clicking buttons, changing to different UI elements, showing dialogs etc etc).

I think .adf is an ArcInfo Grid format, which I'm afraid isnt supported. You can see the list of supported raster formats in the help: http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisexplorer/1500/en/index.html#add_raster_data.htm Hope this helps,

Hi - no, I'm afraid there's no way to get data into the NMF programmatically, the document persistence is not customizable. If it works in your scenario you could use the standard .NET user Settings.

Hi, Add-ins are in a users profile, so if you have logged in with the Administrator account and installed add-ins, and then log in as a different user, that user will need to install the add-ins too - perhaps that's what's happened in your case? Add-ins are stored in the profile under: %APPDATA%\ESRI\arcgis explorer\AddIns e.g. in Windows 7 for an account called SHELLY that would be: C:\Users\SHELLY\AppData\Roaming\ESRI\arcgis explorer\AddIns

I think that it will be the 'rest' bit of that URL that's not required then - Explorer will use the Soap service url of the locator, so you should just be able to remove the '\rest' part, and then the URL should point to the soap service correctly.

Hi Mary, I'm wondering you have just updated your Explorer application to build 1500? I think it's possible if you have updated the application, but still have the old 1200 SDK in place, you could get an error like this. The ESRI.ArcGISExplorer.Compression.dll assembly makes zip archives, and it's part of the main runtime install, so would be a newer version number, but the Visual Studio tools for explorer would be the old version, so would be looking for the older version of the compression dll. You can get the updated SDK from this page: http://resources.arcgis.com/content/arcgis-explorer/1500/download

You might find the SDK offers what you need, as the API has always offered more ability for searching than the application itself, and it's still the case at 1500 - check out the Search method on the Table object (Table.Search method) - you can use a Filter with a query expression, or a spatial filter, or both. Spatial search methods supported by the API are: Contains, Crosses, EnvelopeIntersects, IndexIntersects, Intersects, Overlaps, Touches, Within, Undefined (not all apply to all shape types - full info in the Developer Help system for http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisexplorer/1500/sdk/componenthelp/index.html#//000300000m41000000). There's also a Table.SearchByDistance method in the API. There's a conceptual topic you might might useful if you look at this - http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisexplorer/1500/sdk/conceptualhelp/index.html#/How_to_search_a_Table/000200000016000000/. (I've included some links to topics in the online version of the developer help - note that there's a few issues with this new site at the moment - it's being fixed up, but you might find script error dialogs in IE (just OK them), or formatting issues - you should be able to read enough though.)

Hi, Search will return an empty collection if the search fails for any reason, so there is no exception thrown that you can catch here. If you find an empty collection being returned, and you suspect a field name error, you can check the Columns of the FeatureLayers Table, maybe try the ColumnCollection.FindColumn method to see if the column exists (-1 will be returned if the column name doesnt exist. There's no expression validator built in to the API I'm afraid, so that would be trickier to write. If there's still no records returned, it might either be a valid result (there's nothing matching that expression) or the expression might be incorrect - you can test the expression using the Query button in the app to see if that's the case.
