Hmmm, I'm definitely a visual person, so here are some screenshots to make sure we're on the same page and I'm understanding correctly... Here is an offline area for a map within Collector. As you can see, when I tapped the parcel outline, the attribute information appears in the left hand column. The parcel data is a Hosted Feature Layer within ArcGIS Online. If I click the plus sign in the lower right corner, I can collect a data point within a point feature layer (hosted feature layer) I created for the map. The only attribute for this layer is a Notes field, which appears on the bottom of the screen for me to fill out when I collect the point. To view the table of contents and turn layers on and off, just click the ToC icon at the top of the screen in Collector Does that help?

Do you have the cadastral data as a hosted feature layer? If you add it to the web map, you should be able to access the pop-up information in Collector just by clicking on the feature.

Overall, using ArcGIS Collector has been a HUGE help to us regarding data integrity and efficiency when compared to the old way of collecting field data with pencil and paper. To be fair, we didn't experiment with any other similar products on the market to compare, but I'd say the benefits the software brings outweigh the headaches it can cause when there are sync issues, etc. (don't get me wrong, we've had *plenty* of those as well!) What I think would help alleviate a lot of frustration is if the Esri team would compile an official "manual" that explains not only the requirements for a map to be taken offline (which is already pretty well documented) but also all the myriad error messages and sync issues that one can encounter, what causes them, and how to possibly troubleshoot them. I know that there are resources out there, and documentation, and many helpful posts scattered all across Geonet, but this is such a fundamental workflow to many organizations who use Esri's product that I think having a central location for "all things Collector (and troubleshooting) would be extremely beneficial. I've worked on unofficially compiling as much info as I can in this manner to distribute to members of my organization, but having an official Esri document would be much better. Especially one that really explains the nitty gritty of the technical details of the error messages that you read in the troubleshooting logs. All of the documentation I've found just doesn't go into enough detail to help with understanding the fundamental problem. Esri - if you're listening......has there been any consideration for something like this? So, yes, I do think Collector is "worth the hassle", but there's certainly room for improvement. And that's my two cents.

Ok, not exactly the answer I wanted to hear I guess, since I see custom thumbnail examples with text all the time, but I guess that's just how it is. I do appreciate the thorough response! Thanks

The page that Dan linked to should give you all the info you need, but I did want to elaborate on some terminology distinction here. Notice how, in the bottom right of your screenshot, it only says STYLE (and not STYLX)? That's because the import function is used to import and then convert Style files that were created in ArcMap to be used in ArcGIS Pro. If you created a Stylex file in Pro, you need to add the style, not import. Right click on your project's styles folder in the catalog pane and click "add". Hope that helps!

Hello, I am working on creating thumbnail templates for my organization to use in ArcGIS Online. However, I am having trouble getting the text in the thumbnail to appear nice and crisp. I've tried many different export settings and file types, but none seem to make much of a difference. Here is an example of some custom thumbnails from an image taken from the recent "What's New in ArcGIS Online" post: And here is an example of my template - pretty standard design and format. This particular one was made with an ArcGIS Pro layout template, so that whoever makes the thumbnail can easily use the Map Frame element to get the exact capture of the map that they want. Is there a different setting or "best practice" I can implement to help make my thumbnail a bit sharper?

Ok, so if I understand correctly, you have a hosted feature layer (point data) that doesn't really have any relevant attributes associated with it, and then you have a separate standalone table that contains all the information for that point (maybe things like facility ID, facility type, etc etc). Will you be using Collector or a Web Application to be editing data for this layer? Is there a reason that you have to have the data in a separate table, and you can't just have those as attributes of the actual point layer? If you need to keep them separate, at the very least it seems like you could add an "Inspected" field like I suggested to the hosted feature layer which you can symbolize on. If you're able to share the map I'd be happy to take a look and make sure I'm understanding your setup correctly, but not sure if you're allowed to do that or not.

Hi Michael, Luckily, an easy question that has an easy solution! Simply change the symbology of the manhole layer in the web map to symbolize based on a field rather than just location. Take a look at this page for more info: Style categories—ArcGIS Online Help | Documentation You might need to add a field to your data to indicate whether the facility has been inspected or not if you don't already have something like that (i.e. create a new text field called "inspected" and you can assign it domain values (attribute lists) to create drop-downs for "Yes" or "No"). Define attribute lists and ranges—ArcGIS Online Help | Documentation Hope that helps, let me know if you have more questions! -Katherine

You're welcome! Also, since you say you're new to ArcGIS Online I thought I'd share this in case you hadn't heard of it - sounds like it might be useful to you if you're needing dozens of attachments per feature! https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-online/mapping/use-attachment-viewer/

Oh! I knew this was a feature in Quick Capture, but didn't realize it was possible in Collector! I'd love to know how to set this up as well.

To enable attachments on a hosted feature layer, all you have to do is click "enable attachments" on the item details page. Note that there is a 10MB limit per attachment. Take a look at this page for more information: Manage hosted feature layers—ArcGIS Online Help | Documentation Hope that helps!

I had this happen to me as well at my previous job. I don't remember the exact user interface, but I seem to remember that choosing to share my entire Desktop/all screens rather than just my ArcGIS Pro window solved it for me. Does that fix it for you?

Is it possible you could just enable attachments on the layer and attach the PDF's that way? Or is there another reason you want the links to the documents as an attribute?
