What do you mean by result table? The Near tool does not generate a new table. It adds fields to the table of the input features with a near FID and near distance. Are you looking there for the results? Are you specifying a Search Radius? If your search radius is smaller than the actual distance between features, it will not be recorded. Leaving the search radius blank will ensure that you capture the nearest feature regardless of distance. Heath

Is this an application that is already web-enabled and deployed with its own URL? If so, you can simply use ArcGIS Online to point to that application. Do that by adding an item to My Content. Choose that it's On the Web, and an application and register it. Then you can make it public. The application is not hosted on ArcGIS Online, but can be accessed through ArcGIS Online. Heath

Yes, the new release happened. There are a number of changes that occurred overnight. I don't know about the print issue, but here's the blog post announcing the release today. http://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2013/12/11/whats-new-arcgis-online-december-2013/

It was my understanding that the basemap update that occurred today was supposed to remove ferry routes in the Puget Sound area of Washington. But they are still there. We are waiting to deploy an update to our applications that consume the Streets basemap that has our own layer of ferry routes in it. Can somebody tell me when this is supposed to occur now? Heath

No, it was never resolved. I did the same thing as you did by starting a new map document. It should probably be reported as a bug, but I didn't bother taking the time to do that. Heath

You could also create a process that intersects the rivers with the outline of the lake (convert the polygon to line). The river that runs through the lake will intersect the lake line twice, which you can identify by dissolving the points based on river name (and summarizing the OID by COUNT). That will ensure that you are identifying the river that runs through the lake. Heath

Hi Neil, Once you choose to add your custom banner, all of the Artwork/logo/text that you want in that banner space must be part of that custom banner. You will need to incorporate the logo and organization name into your banner image. Heath

Essentially, yes. If you are using that to create a feature service then the feature service will be projected to WGS 1984 Web Mercator (Auxiliary Sphere). A zipped shapefile that is added to a web map or added to ArcMap from AGOL will also be projected into WGS 1984 Web Mercator (Auxiliary Sphere). But if the shapefile is an item in AGOL and the user downloads the zipped shapefile and adds that to ArcMap, it will maintain its original projection. Heath

Hello, I have a tile package that I am trying to upload to ArcGIS Online. This tile package had been created with a specific polygonal Area Of Interest in order to limit the total number of tiles created. I can add the tile package as an Item. When ArcGIS Online unpackages the tiles, it appears that it expects to generate tiles for the entire extent and does not stop "processing" tiles, even though all of the relevant tiles have been unpackaged (if I open the service in ArcGIS Online everything that should be visible is visible). So I went to tiles.arcgis.com/tiles/login to see what I could do. I can Cancel all jobs so that the service stops Processing. But this isn't a perfect scenario. When I look at the Tile Service Statistics, there are many errors that look like this: Unable to extract tiles from tile package, bundle file(s) [/L15/R2b80C1400.bundle, /L15/R2b80C1400.bundlx, /L15/R2b80C1480.bundle, /L15/R2b80C1480.bundlx, /L15/R2b80C1500.bundle, /L15/R2b80C1500.bundlx, /L15/R2b80C1580.bundle, /L15/R2b80C1580.bundlx] may be missing in the package. And when we call the service in a javaScript application, all of the tiles appear, but the JavaScript console comes up with 404 errors (Not Found). Is there a way to add a blank.png into the service as a default for the missing tiles? I can't seem to do this like I can in ArcGIS Server. Heath

Is there a way to add an expression into a popup? Such as ([Bridge Clearance] - 3)? It appears that I need to have a field already calculated to the appropriate expression value.

Hi Scott, I had a chat with an analyst yesterday (ESRI Incident #1202165). A complete uninstall and then download and install from the website worked for me. But this is not an ideal situation. Unfortunately, he decided to come to the conclusion that the problem is ours. So here's more background. Yes, the problem arose from upgrading directly from V2.1 to V2.1.1 via the prompt in Excel. I am an administrator on my machine, but the problem was brought to my attention by employees who are not administrators. They were able to walk through the update process, but then were thwarted by a lack of an ability to sign in (as I mentioned previously). I will also note that PowerPoint was not affected by this issue, only Excel. I'm now attempting to get the users that have not attempted to upgrade to uncheck the "Check for Updates" box in Excel. Our agency will be sticking with V2.1 for now. But there is some buggy behavior that should be resolved. Heath

Today I updated ESRI Maps for Office 2.1.1. When I reopened Microsoft Excel, the ability to even sign in was not allowed (everything on the ESRI Maps tab was greyed out). I then noticed that the ArcGIS Connection setting in the ESRI Maps Configuration was blank. So I entered www.arcgis.com (which is the default configuration) and upon entering that information, Excel crashed and closed. I cannot update the configuration setting. Our agency uses Microsoft Excel 2010 (32-bit) with Windows 7 (64-bit). I would strongly recommend that people do not update ESRI Maps for Office 2.1.1 at this time. Heath

I have created a custom basemap group for our organization which includes many of the ESRI standard basemaps along with a custom basemap that we have created. When I set this group as the basemap group, it takes about 5 seconds for the basemap list to populate when you click Basemap in the AGOL Map viewer for the first time (vs a bit over a second for the ESRI Default Basemaps). After it has been populated the first time in a session it behaves quickly on subsequent clicks. Is there anything I can do to speed this up? Heath

Erik, Does your non-profit have ArcGIS for Server? Hosting the service there could help. If not, you could also consider tiling the service for small scales (which don't use too many tiles (read: cheap), but will display many shapes at once) and displaying the feature service once you've zoomed in enough that the number of polygons displayed is minimal. That should help the performance a bit, but would require 2 services in the map with scale ranges set. Heath

I'm not sure what is going on but I'd try a couple of things. Format your spreadsheet as a table. This has been recommended to me by ESRI. Try changing the name of your Excel location field. If that doesn't work, try re-creating your custom locator. While this add-in is pretty slick, I've noticed a number of little inconsistencies and bugs with it.
