I came looking for the answer to a similar issue. Here's my use case: I work at a university, and work with several courses that use four or five Survey 123 surveys per semester. I reuse these Surveys, and produce maps from them for each semester. I was trying to write a data pipeline to simplify the production of the maps. The Surveys have at least one image. When I wrote the data pipeline, the attachment field wasn't present. Is there a way that I'm missing to have the field with the attachment come through? If not, could that ever happen? I could write a Notebook to change the attachment field from Survey 123 to a link, possibly, but if it would work with the pipelines, that would be so much easier!

I was just going to come post about this issue. I've built probably 100 Attachment viewer apps, but never had this problem until the last three weeks. If anyone has fixes or workarounds, I'd love to hear it.

@LisaBenvenuti1 We discussed putting an option for something in a StoryMap that would turn on button for citation generation. This would be author controlled. I agree with you -- for certain StoryMaps, the citation generator would be very convenient for faculty and for students, much more so than a Chrome extension. (I'm sure Safari has something, but I haven't looked.) Some folks will really struggle with an extention vs a button on a StoryMap. Maybe @OwenGeo will keep this under consideration!

Here is an example of a Chrome Extension for a citation generator. ( haven't tested this one.) Here's an open access journal with a Citation Generator. Find the "Abstract" section and look to the column just to the right. You'll see the Citation Generator.

My team has been collaborating various projects and agencies to create StoryMaps. StoryMaps have great accessibility features, such as a clear place for Alt Text and the use of headings. However, we have gotten testing results back with errors in a few areas: Color contrast in navigation Keyboard navigation traps Incorrect reading order on tabs Buttons coded as links, not buttons No indication when something opens in a new tab Various errors in the ARIA code The details of this testing are too much for this post and have been provided to the StoryMaps and Accessibility teams. This post is to encourage additional review of accessibility functionality so more of our agencies can use StoryMaps.

Thanks for the head's up, Owen. I have been having this problem in the storymaps.com account since mid-January and have submitted tickets about it. I can usually edit, but cannot publish. It definitely seems like leaving the browser open has caused problems, so I've taken to closing the browser when I'm not working on it. I just tried to publish the story and got this same error message I've been getting. I haven't tried recovering - I've just been making duplicates! Yup, not the best approach but I haven't lost my story!

The Classic StoryMaps had the capability to "Check Stories" to validate links and images, sharing status of maps and other items, missing data layers/maps. This would be great to have in the new StoryMaps builder.

Thank you @OwenGeo! Most of the problems we ran into were from students reporting issues. It's hard to have them try to replicate, but I did have one staff person we asked to test. I will let you know as soon as I hear back from them.

The primary use case for this request is to make it easier for the StoryMap owner to add other editors to their StoryMap. Students expect to be able to share StoryMap editing like they share a Google Doc. As I mentioned above, the whole concept of AGOL Groups is confusing. If there is another way to add users who can also edit (or view) besides creating a group, that would work even better than creating Groups.

At my academic institution, StoryMaps users often need a Group for collaborative editing or sharing StoryMaps. Sometimes multiple editors need access to a StoryMap for a class group project or departmental content, other times a group or class may need a private space to share StoryMaps without making them open to the Organization. Having to go into AGOL to set up groups is a significant barrier for those who are just using StoryMaps. If someone is just using StoryMaps, they do not see/understand the connection to AGOL and it is very, very confusing. Plus, the difference between a Shared Update Group and a Group without Shared Update capabilities is very confusing. It requires that the user reach out to the help desk to create the group, or those of us supporting StoryMaps create all the groups for them. It just adds a layer of extra confusing work. We would really like to have an easy way to create groups (both Shared Update and non) right from the ArcGIS StoryMaps interface.

Peter and Owen - thanks for this post and response. We experienced several incidents of this this semester. When someone asks about the problem, we can address it, but it's those who don't ask and just get frustrated. Part of the issue is that we encourage students to write their content in a Google Doc either for collaboration with other students or to turn in to the instructor for editing (instructors like Google Docs better than a StoryMap because it's easier to make comments/edits.)
