We'd like to customize the entire link so it's easy to remember (we sometimes use bit.ly, but self-hosting is easier as we can swap out what's behind it easily) and looks more legit to the end user (has our own organization URL and doesn't have the messy unique id part).

Hi @OwenGeo , are URL parameters available yet? I'm unable to find documentation. My use case is that I'm trying to replicate the classic series template with map actions. If I can at least navigate to a text element in the sidecar with a URL parameter, that would be great. If I could activate a map action (which turns on/off specific layers) that would be amazing. Just navigating to the top of the sidecar widget wouldn't be helpful because that's all there is in the storymap so the url parameter didn't help make navigating easier. I could break the 50 map actions into separate sidecars, but that would be way too much scrolling for users not navigating to the site via parameters and looks pretty bad with so many duplicates of the same webmap. At least with the classic map series, they cover each other up when you flip between tabs.

I would like to upvote this idea multiple times. I made myself use the new StoryMap Builder for a project and cringed every time I demoed it because you must first scroll down at least half a page before you see any of the content. People will lose interest and navigate away. That's why I still love the classic, one-page templates like Series and Shortlist that have a short title bar and got right to the content. I agree with @mthompson: cover-eliminating url parameters will be forgotten or people will stumble upon your story in unintended setups (like through the AGO item). I've spent two days wrestling with Experience Builder to try and replicate the classic Series template for our election results and was just about to give up and use the classic template again when I thought I'd look to see if I could remove the cover on the new storymaps yet. Some related issues: please allow sidebar blank areas to be hidden (as this is the first thing that's seen if you hide the cover with url parameters) and/or allow a map to be added to the "side-by-side" cover design to get around the sidecar starting with a huge blank space at the top

Please allow an option for the blank space to be hidden. Rarely do my projects want a cover, so when we use the current workaround of hiding it with url parameters, it looks like the project failed to load properly because the sidecar content is half cut off. It's not intuitive for my end users to scroll and go looking for the data I'm trying to present. I miss the classic templates where everything was right there on one page (series, shortlist) as people want instant results and may click away if it looks like they have to work to find the info. An alternative is to allow a web map to be displayed on the side-by-side cover design. This is the closest idea I could find: ArcGIS Storymap has a lot of white space between s... - Esri Community and would tackle the same issue: controlling blank spaces in the sidecar

Thanks, that got it working for me too, six years after this thread started. Has always worked fine in the classic map viewer, and just tried this project for the first time in the (new) map viewer today and got this error message.

I ran into this issue again today, so I wish I could upvote this idea multiple times. When I'm working on a map, I'm exploring the data, altering symbology, adding/removing layers, etc. It's not obvious that every time you save it, it sets that as the default extent in your apps. Especially when the customer wants a weird extent, I'm afraid of forgetting to reset it every time I work on the map or if someone else works on the map they may not realize they have to do that too. I see a preserve map scale option in the map properties. I would love to see a set initial extent option right there too or maybe a toggle of saving a new initial extent when saving the web map.

@DamienPyne It's the opposite: newer files won't work in older versions. Once a project is saved in Pro 3.x, it can't be opened in Pro 2.x.

I was going to put in an idea for this too! I plan to have all the bookmarks display at once, so have no need for the arrows. Annoyingly, no matter if it's horizontal or vertical, the arrows are covering up part of the bookmark! I can see it in your image too. I want the box to be pretty small with one line of text, so I'm afraid it's going to be covering the text.

Thanks @Conor_McIntosh! That worked much better! I set a couple of bookmarks and they immediately worked in the app. I liked that there was a plain list template, so you don't have to have a thumbnail of the bookmark, and the setup was indeed much easier. No duplicating the map source and the layer list GUI was smaller and didn't have layers jumping around as you toggle their visibility on and off. I think I can actually use this to replace my map series template now!

Thanks for those ideas. I'm trying to set up an experience where I configure different layer visibility between views. My maps weren't loading any layers. Reducing the number of layers in my webmap from 60 to 30 helped some of the layers show up. I don't have the Layers tool turned on in the map widget. I also tried switching from Classic Map Viewer to the new one for my webmap, but still some layers don't show up. For now, I'll have to continue using the classic map series story map template until Experience Builder's performance improves.

I agree with @JohnNergeBrooklynPark, it would be more intuitive to be on the map widget instead of the data source. Further improvements would be to add turn all layers on/off buttons and making the GUI block for each layer much smaller. It's going to take lots of scrolling for me to hunt down layers to turn them on/off, especially when they jump around based on their visibility status. I'll miss the map series story map template... Has anyone had success with the ESRI work around? I'm trying it out now, but even with setting layer visibility on two separate adds of the same webmap in data sources and seeing it correct in Experience Builder's built-in preview, when I look at the finished app, the map layers don't load at all in either of my map widgets. Per advice in other threads, I reduced the number of layers in my webmap, but still some of them don't show up in my final app.

Hi @patrickb , it does not look like this has been implemented and now I can no longer sort by the statistic when using "Split by Field". I'm using the new dashboards (not classic) in ArcGIS Online. Interestingly, if I select "Split by Field" after everything is set up, "Sort by Statistic" stays. But still, this only sorts the colors within the column and not the columns themselves. Right now, I can only do that with Municipality name (the Category), so alphabetically. Is there a way I can sort my graph so that the tallest column (most total projects) is first?

I've aggregated point features into hexagons or other polygon shapes to still show general distribution of features on a map. If I needed the attributes, I turned them into a table and removed sensitive fields like names. Then in my dashboard, I could still make charts for age, gender, etc.

I hid fields in the attribute table and used Table to Excel (Pro 3.0.1), but those attributes still showed up in the table. My workaround was to use Table to Table, specify to save it as a .csv, and remove the fields that I don't want within the tool. In Pro 3.0+ there's also Export Table (Conversion)—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation. The objectid didn't show up in the tool for me and still showed up in the final file, but that's fine for me. It did create some other files (filename.csv.xml & schema.ini) that I ended up deleting.
