I'm working through setting up ArcGIS Monitor 2023, and I have a question about the notifications. The emails come through correctly. However, there's currently no real description beyond the Status to help me understand how urgently I need to address the item. The Name field looks like it should serve that purpose, but I haven't found a way to set that. Is there an easy way to set a descriptive name?

Interesting thought. I think we have something slightly different going on, though. We also get the suggestions list, but only the ones from the World Geocoder go to the wrong extent. In the example below, both item I and item II return the correct location point, but item II zooms to southern NY. This isn't such a big deal where both are available. However, the internal data suggestions are based on our water customer locations. So if we ever need to find a street or an address that is not a current customer (such as someone who wants to be a new customer), we run into trouble with the zoom.

I've been experiencing some issues with a custom, composite geocode service that I maintain. It contains geocoders that point to our internal data (in NH State Plane coords), as well as the World Geocode Service. What happens is when I use the search bar in Portal or Locate tool in Pro, it will often zoom to a very incorrect location in a manner consistent with a projection issue. However, the actual geocode result is in the correct location. Everything we geocode is in NH, but it very consistently zooms to S Central NY. In the screenshot below, the black dot is the geocode result, the red dot is the approximate location of the zoom extent. It seems to happen mostly with the results that are resolved from the World Geocode Service rather than from the geocoders built off of our internal data. I do not see this issue in Field Maps. I also do not see the issue in Pro if I use the geocoder file that the service is published from. Are there any settings I'm missing on the Geocode Service or my maps that would resolve this issue? I'm publishing to Enterprise 10.9.1 from Pro 3.1.1.

An issue cropped up recently using the default print service installed with Portal/Server. When any non-admin user tries to print from a print widget or web map, we get the error below. I checked the sharing settings and it is properly shared with the whole organization. I also tried explicitly sharing the service with certain groups, and that did not resolve the issue either. Is there something I'm missing in the settings or configurations? This had been working properly before. I'm not sure when it stopped, but I suspect it was pretty recent. We are using Enterprise 10.9.1 in a single machine deployment.

I really like the Elevation Profile widget. It's a great way for an end user to interrogate the data. I see a lot of potential to use this with non-elevation raster surfaces. While it can technically be done now, the output may be confusing depending on the data being used. For example, I work at a water utility and I would like my engineers to be able to retrieve an approximation of how the water pressure will change across a transect. I can make an estimated PSI raster and publish it as a service. However, I can't add it as a profile option as it's not an Elevation service. I could probably fake it as an elevation service, but the next problem is the display units. The widget only has options for standard elevation units, not custom units. The resulting display wouldn't be very readable without lot of extra explanations. Additionally, it would be helpful in some situations to have multiple lines on a graph. For example, some areas will have a min-max range of PSIs, so showing both would be helpful. Other potential applications would be measuring/displaying how air or soil pollution varies along a line, or how steep slope is along a transect.

I've found a workaround for now. It appears that the issue is limited to accounts trying to authenticate against Active Directory. Built-in Portal users are working correctly, so I created a new user just to run Python scripts and stored the credentials in a profile. My script is running correctly now. I'm not 100% sure it's necessary, but I also assigned the new user a Pro license to make sure it could use the API. I'm also working with tech support to see if we can resolve the gssapi issue.

I'm seeing the same issue on a machine that I just upgraded to 3.1 A script that I run daily broke and I tracked it down to the GIS call like you found. Looking at my custom Python env and the default, it looks like the package it's looking for is requests-gssapi, which is installed by default. I tried updating, and un-installing/reinstalling the package. The former had no effect, the latter wouldn't let me uninstall. I'm pretty sure the upgrade is the culprit. I'm weighing whether I'll lose more by uninstalling and going back to 3.0 or sticking with 3.1 until we have a fix.

One feature I'd love to see in experience builder is a way to set presets for layer visibility in the Layers widget. We have something like this in a Javascript web map provided to us by a consultant, which lets us configure saved combinations of which layers are turned on or off. Having these saved combinations makes it easy for our end users to switch between common viewing modes.

No worries! If I'm understanding correctly you do the following: remove relationship class and archiving compress/index db set the relationship class back up and this gets rid of the unused space?

Thank you for clarifying. It sounds like I might have to contact Esri tech support to find a path forward. The DB gets compressed and reindexed every morning, I don't record GP history on all my regular scripts (and I delete it periodically just to be sure), and the log file isn't too scary. My big culprit is an archive class that I don't need (but exists anyway because the table is related to a FC that does need archiving). That archive class had ballooned to 140 GB. I deleted it the other day, but the DB is still tying up all that space. The Shrink workflow you link to seems to only apply to SQL Server Express, as I can't find equivalent tools for my SQL Server data connnections.

@John_Spence, are you saying there's a geoprocessing tool to release unused space from within the Esri ecosystem, or are you saying to compress the DB and immediately shrink using the tools in SQL Server administrator?

I've been thinking a lot about how to effectively train users on the Portal and encourage them to use some of the self-service capabilities. What I would love to see is a "Demo Mode" that interactively guides users through the basics of finding content, creating and editing maps, etc. I could place this on the landing page to catch the attention of first-time users. Ideally, this would have some level of configurability, so that I can make the content more relevant to our specific needs. However, a one-size-fits-all approach would be sufficient.

I would love if there were Arcade functionality to detect what platform a user was accessing a map from so that derived content could be displayed accordingly. My particular use case is creating links to access Cityworks items for field and office users. Field users would be looking at the map in Field Maps and use a URL to open it in the Cityworks Mobile app. Office users would view the map in Portal or a web app, and use a different URL to open in Cityworks Office. Currently, I have to create two links in the same map (some potential for confusion) or maintain separate maps for field and office users (more work). Having a way to tell if the user is in Field Maps or a browser would allow me to tailor the experience to the user with less maintenance. In practice, it would be great to be able to write it something like this: var urlFormat1 = "some:\\format\"
var urlFormat2 = "https:\\anotherFormat\"
\\get environment
var env = GetPlatform()
\\build URL accordingly
if(env = "Mobile"){
return urlFormat1 + $feature.InspectionID
}
else{
return urlFormat2 + $feature.InspectionID
}

I agree with @Scott_Tansley . We ended up doing it in batches, so I wrote a script that took the old username, email address, first name, and last name as a csv input. It created each new user with the email address, then transferred items, groups, permissions, etc. to the new user, and finally deleted the old user. It wasn't too hard to set up, and a good opportunity to get to know the admin module of the Python API.
