Hi Aaron Paul. I know this response comes very late! You should be able to share Surveys with ArcGIS Organizational Accounts outside your own org. Start by downloading the latest Survey123 Connect for ArcGIS to publish your Survey and also download the latest Survey123 app from the store. Once your Survey is published, use the http://survey123.arcgis.com web site to share it with an existing group in your organization. Then invite outside users into your Group and they should see it in their field app once they login and go to the Download Surveys page. Survey123 questions get a higher chance to be answered if you post them into the Survey123 for ArcGIS place.

Hi Eric Ironside, we are working as we speak on this. The thinking is that when you configure your Workforce project you will be able to map your WorkorderID into a question in your Survey. In this manner, your Survey would be automatically populated with it. When authoring your Survey, you will be able to choose if you want this field to be shown to the end user (if not you can use a hidden question), and if you want it to be read only (use readonly = true). If everything goes according to plan, you will also be able to pick the Survey to be automatically opened in the Survey123 app. That is, as a Workforce project owner you will define what Survey will be triggered for all assignments in your project. Adding Craig Gillgrass to the thread too. Hard to estimate when we will have this in place but if we cannot get this in June, we will aim at the immediate update after that.

HI Rhonda, I am guessing that if you try using the bind::esri:fieldType column in your survey worksheet and set the value to esriFieldTypeDate for your hidden date question, your date will be stored as you wish. I have not tried myself, but I think it may work. Some more info about the esri:fieldType column can be found here: Mapping XLSForm questions into ArcGIS Feature Service fields

Jonathan Pendleton It looks like the issue with the duplicates may be due to a badly-formed feature service. Before the 1.4 release, Survey123 Connect for ArcGIS was not uniquely registering related tables. This was not an issue in Surveys with a single repeat, but in cases like yours, where you have multiple, it is an issue. I wanted to ask you to use Survey123 Connect for ArcGIS version 1.4.30 to publish your XLS file again. Then populate a couple of entries with the field app and go back to the web site to check if the data is being duplicated. I did some testing with your own XLS file and I got no duplication of data in the repeats when using 1.4.

Thanks Roger. We will look into this. The screenshot helps a lot understanding the issue, and the data also helps quite a bit. While we resolve the data duplication in the different repeats, you can try to download the data as Roger suggests above. If you want to get the images out, you may also want to try the Python script referenced in this blog post: Downloading data captured with Survey123 for ArcGIS

Hi Gary, I looked at your Survey and it looks like we have a couple of different things here going on. First, your questions in the repeat are not showing. Instead, you see a plus button. This is by design. Up until 1.4.28, we did not support Required, Calculations or Constraints within a repeat. As we got into implementing 'required' questions we figured that if we were to show the questions like before, you would not be able to submit your survey unless you had completed at least required questions within a repeat. The problem is that logically you only want a question within a repeat to be truly required if you have at least one entry within the repeat. For example, say no inspections were done... then it would be a pain to have any required questions within the inspections repeat... So with 1.4.28, what you see is that by default questions within a repeat are hidden, unless you want to add a new entry within the repeat. It is only at that point that you see the questions, and the 'required' logic is triggered. Otherwise it would be strange for a user to see that she was able to submit a survey without completing a question that is flagged in red as required. All of the above may make sense once explained, but looking at your Survey it was really disorienting that the plus buttons had no context at all. So turns out that your repeat blocks did not have labels and that is why the repeats appear like floating in nowhere. So the second problem is that your repeats did not show any headers. This problem can be addressed adding a label to your repeats. I took the labels from your Groups, put them into the repeat and removed the groups. Then I got something like shown in the screenshot below. I think if you change the text in the label to be plural (Air Vent Inspections), the field users will naturally tend to push the + button if an inspection is made. I kind of like the new design for repeats, because it takes much less vertical space in your survey too, but that is just me. Let us know if this all makes sense to you. Thanks, Ismael

Hi Jonathan Pendleton We just added support to view related information in the survey123.arcgis.com web site. Make sure you clear your browser cache before you try: 1- Go into survey123.arcgis.com and login 2- Click on your survey and go to the data tab 3- Click on the row you are interested (in the table) and your related records will show at the bottom If things do not work for you, please send your XLS file along with an export of your data in file geodatabase format so we can give it a try. If you do not want to attach your data to a comment in GeoNet, please send the XLS file and FileGDB to us at survey123@esri.com referencing this thread (so we can have some context). Thanks a lot.

Hi Sergio. I am attaching here an XLS file to show how to do what you are looking for. Essentially, you need to manually add a question so you can persist the value of 'other' and also add a relevant statement to make sure your 'other' question only shows when the 'other' option has been chosen in your list. A lot of people get trapped into thinking that the expression is something like ${SportsLiked} = 'other', but the best expression is selected(${SportsLiked},'other'). In this way, the 'other' question will show every time you check the 'other' option. It will all make sense when you have a look at the XLS file attached. It is quite simple. I know this is a bit more complex than simply adding 'or other' after your select_multiple question... the shortcut only works in English....

[Last updated November 3, 2021] A barcode is an optical machine-readable representation of data. A lot of things around us have barcodes. You will find them in virtually any packaged item you buy, in the back cover of books and most likely somewhere in the laptop, its power adapter, or the PC you may be using right now. Typically, barcodes are attached to things using a sticker, or simply printed on them. You can put any data you want in a barcode, but generally they are used to unequivocally identify the item. Barcodes are designed to encode data in a way that can be quickly scanned using either a barcode scanner, or through the camera of your smartphone. In the image, a barcode has been placed in the back of a road sign. The barcode uniquely identifies the asset, but also carries information about the installation date, manufacturer and other important information. An inspector, using the Survey123 field app, can quickly scan the barcode and load all the asset information into the form. At that point, the form can be completed and submitted. Types of barcodes There are multiple flavors of barcodes They are organized into two categories: linear and 2D (matrix) barcodes. The original barcodes where all linear. They were invented in the 1960's, popularized in the 1970's and still the most commonly used today. Here is a linear barcode representing the value 03600029145 Two-dimensional barcodes can encode more information. A popular one these days is the QR code, which you may have already used from your smartphone to quickly access a web site, or to download a mobile app. There are lots of different types of barcodes, even for each of these two categories. Choosing one type or the other will depend on what type of data you want to encode (not all types support international characters for example), the size of the data, the amount of space you have for the sticker, etc Another important aspect before choosing the barcode type to use is licensing. Many barcode styles are patented and you cannot use them to print your own data. You can learn more about the different types of barcodes in Wikipedia. From a practical perspective, if you would like to create your own barcodes, a safe bet is to go with a 2D style, as it will give you good flexibility to store data of different sorts or one in the public domain, such as Aztec or QR Code. There are different ways to print barcodes. To start playing around a bit, I personally liked qr-code-generator.com and also barcode-generator.org. You will also find API's, to create these barcodes programmatically, as well as solutions of all sorts to print stickers: in bulk, from a pocket printer, to print waterproof barcodes etc There is really a world around barcodes. If you are hardcore enough you will even find people who will tattoo them on you. Barcodes in Survey123 (The Basics) If you would like field users to be able to scan a barcode and get the data added to your survey, you need to add a barcode type of question. As shown in the screenshot below, the XLSForm specification includes a barcode question type. Barcode questions, by default, are shown in your form as an input box with a barcode scanner button o the side. Users can either manually enter text or tap the scanner button to trigger the device camera. By simply focusing on the barcode the barcode will be scanned and the data from it added to the form. Survey123 supports the following barcode types: QR Code, Code 39, Code 93, Code 128, EAN 8, EAN 13, UPC A, UPC E, UPC EAN Extension, Aztec, Codabar, Data Matrix, ITF, MaxiCode, PDF 417, RSS14 and RSS Expanded. By default, the Survey123 field app will automatically scan all barcode types except Code-39 and PDF417. If you need to scan Code-39 or PDF417, go into the scanner dialog settings and activate the format you are targeting. Your barcode preference will be remembered. To help you get started, Survey123 Connect includes a Barcodes survey design sample. Open Survey123 Connect, click on New Survey, and then look in the Samples category. Publish the survey and download it into your device to familiarize yourself with the XLSForm syntax and the app experience. Minimal appearance and calculations Barcode questions in Survey123 support the minimal appearance. When used, the question will not show any type of input text box. Instead, all the user will see will be the name of the question, as well as the button to start the scanner. The minimal appearance in a barcode question is typically used in combination with calculations in other questions: the barcode question is used to fetch data, and the calculations extract that data and display it to the user. Say for example you want to use a barcode to store the Unique Identifier of an asset and the company that produced it. Just like in the barcode on the side. We would not want to show all that information in a single field, because it would be confusing to the field user, and somewhat useless stored that way. Using the minimal appearance and calculations you can parse the information from the barcode and present it and store it in different fields... like in the following example: If the information in the barcode is more complex, you can use a custom JavaScript function to parse its contents.

Hi Finnian, technically, Survey123 for ArcGIS stores all captured data in a SQLLite database in your device. This data can be extracted from your phone and then pushed into the Feature Service from another device or computer. It is just a matter of understanding where the data is stored, what tools to use to make changes (if necessary) and how to sync the data. We will be working on a blog post and documentation to illustrate this step by step. Thanks a lot for your question! Ismael

Hi Dustin! At the moment, Survey123 for ArcGIS always requires a logged-in user. Well, at least this is the case with the out of the box app you can download from the app stores. We are thinking about supporting crowd-sourcing scenarios with Survey123 later in the year. If you really need this to happen sooner, and you are brave, you can download the source code of Survey123 for ArcGIS and make it your own (removing the login requirement). The source code of Survey123 is available under the Apache 2.0 license with AppStudio for ArcGIS.
