Hi Nicholas, This wouldn't be a conflict between the different Maplex labeling styles. It is probably due to the municipal boundaries layer having a high weight set to it. Which would also explain why adding it in again would fix the issue as the weight would be reset to 0. do you have a copy of the old project where you could check the weights? thanks Wendy

I can repro what you're seeing. by the looks of it you are in layout view and have a layer selected in the contents pane. it is not possible to change the label engine from the layer contextual menu. you will need to select the map in the contents pane and then on the Layout tab in the map group click Activate you'll then have the Map ribbon and from the Labeling group you can change the label engine

Hi Randy Maplex is the default label engine for Pro and is available at all license levels. Where is it that you're seeing it greyed out? Wendy

Hi Dave, You can align your stacked labels on the Label Class pane in the Stacking section. By the sounds of it you're trying to do it through the text symbol properties. Wendy

Hi all, This is how labeling has always worked. The value is cast to a string so you need to convert it to a numeric data type for comparisons or math equations. Both Standard and Maplex label engines work this way. Three parsers - VBScript, Python and JScript - work this way. Arcade in Pro works differently and field values maintain their data types. you can see the doc here Pro: Specify text for labels—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop ArcMap: Building label expressions—Help | ArcGIS Desktop Field values are automatically cast to text strings. Therefore, if you want to use a numeric value in an arithmetic operation or when making a comparison, you will need to cast it back to a numeric data type. Note: When using Arcade, the field values maintain their data type. The following examples add two integer fields: Arcade $feature.FIELD1 + $feature.FIELD2 Python int([FIELD1]) + int([FIELD2]) VBScript cint([FIELD1]) + cint([FIELD2]) JScript parseInt([FIELD1]) + parseInt([FIELD2])

Hi Shane - it is probably something to do with the ring ordering. Still trying to get to the bottom of it. A few more questions... What storage type (geometry or geography) are you using in SQL Server? Where did the data come from? was it created in ArcGIS? thanks Wendy

Hi Shane, SQL Server 2008/2008R2 are not supported with Pro 2.2. SQL Server 2016 is though. Are you seeing the issue on both? The best way to deal with this will be to log a support call so that we can take a look at the data and get a repro case. thanks Wendy

Hi Scott, there are two ways you can do this. A temporary way and a more permanent way. the temporary way is using symbol substitution. this change does not edit your data. it only exists for the project. right click on your anno in the contents pane and select Symbology. this will open the Symbology pane. In the Symbol Substitution group select the Substitute symbols in collection radio button and double click on the symbol. Change the symbol as you wish from here. the more permanent way is to edit the symbol in the annotation feature class. In the catalog pane browse to your annotation feature class. right click on it and select Annotation feature class properties. This opens up the Annotation Feature Class Properties pane. If you have feature linked annotation and want the symbol change to be reflected in updates you need to click on the Annotation Classes tab, double click on the annotation subclass you are looking to edit and then select the symbol tab. Make your symbol changes here. Now for all newly created annotation in this subclass, the new symbol will be used. To change the existing features, you'll need to edit the symbol id field to be the newly created symbol id from the collection. If you have annotation that isn't feature linked you can either create a new symbol in the collection by clicking the plus sign or double click on a symbol to use that as a starting point. Once symbol edits are made and the new symbol is created, just edit the symbol id of the features to point to the newly created symbol. thanks Wendy

Hi Julie, In ArcMap, this Label button placed a piece of text in the map annotation group. Pro does not support map annotation, so there is no equivalent tool. You can convert labels to annotation and/or use the editing tools to easily create and edit annotation that lives in annotation feature classes. You will also soon be able to use the Annotate Selected Features geoprocessing tool when it comes out in the next release. thanks, Wendy
