Are there any updates to allowing annotation to be published to ArcGIS Online? I just started moving everything to ArcGIS Online and so Enterprise is not an option. I just discovered that the tiled layer I created for my annotation must be at the bottom of the list. This is a big problem! In this particular map I need the annotation to be displayed on top because of the solid layer. I may try transparency as a workaround for now.

There has to be an easier way to do this. I have switched my services to internal only (Enterprise) and now it seems I wont be able to edit my geodatabases in Collector because that would require the services to be public. Am I correct?

Installing ArcGIS for Server and ArcGIS Desktop is still a nightmare. Pro is a simple click to update and a few minutes later its done. Desktop is better than it used to be. At least I don't have to uninstall the old version. Enterprise,....well that process is nuts. I went to install the new web adaptor only for it to tell me I had to uninstall the previous version first. Why can't that be built in to the process? Please consider making the upgrade of Enterprise more streamlined. Allow us to check options, yes, but seriously, it shouldn't take an hour and multiple steps to upgrade ArcGIS for Server.

Ah thanks, I guess that really doesn't matter, it seems to deal fine with the unique value renderer but I am still stuck with having too many unique values to do this. This of course is a polyline so all I really wanted to do was have all lines with an edit date prior to say 2019 be one color and the most recent ones be another color. Is there a way to do unique values by a range of dates.

Is that a DATE field or a text field with a date in it? Also, since I am using the last edited field, there would be something like 1100 unique values. The other thing I can think of is added a field that says updated with a Y or N flag and symbolize it that way. Not as ideal but it should work for this project.

I've seen some posts about symbolizing by date (I find it odd that Esri still hasn't come up with a good way to do this) in ArcMap but I haven't seen anything for Pro. I cannot figure out a logical way to symbolize by date. I am working with Collector to collect sidewalk details. It would be nice to be able to track my progress and I thought doing this by date would be the best way. I have a last edited date field that would work perfectly. I could also create a new date field if that autoupdated field is an issue. I've also considered using the YYYMMDD format in a text field but I would have to enter it like that each time I did an edit which is kind of a pain. Seems to me that date or time should be a simple way to symbolize something. Is there something preventing Esri from implementing this?

When I click on Add Data, I am not given an option to add from any network drive only mapped drives (which are of course network drives anyway). I added a screenshot below, the only options to add under Computer are either local drives or mapped network drives. There is no way for me to add something from a UNC path. The method I used above was Add Data from Path... I also found the following help article: Add layers and layer packages to a map—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation It is basically telling me I am doing things correctly but my point of contention is that I should be able to access files without having to type in the path every time. This just adds an extra step.

I finally came up with a different solution. It appears the only way for this to work properly is for the shapefiles to be referenced by a UNC path rather than a mapped path. (\\server\shapefile.shp as opposed to M:\shapefile.shp). The issue still present is that the only way to use a UNC path is to add data from path in Pro. In ArcMap, I could just add using the regular feature and add it directly from the UNC path. I'm not sure if this is an issue with Pro 2.4.2 or an issue with Windows 10. Either way, with this workaround, the layers display properly in the service. I considered just adding these to my SDE but they are used so irregularly, I prefer not to do that.

Is your field in DATE format or TEXT (STRING)? The example I was using involves dates in the DATE format. I've found the only way for a text field to properly work as a date for selection is to format it like this 20191007 (YYYYMMDD) if it represented today's date. It might work with YYYYDDMM or 20190710 to more closely match your format but I'm not sure). If it is a DATE field, you'll likely want to use unique values and ensure your date format matches how you enter it (hope that made sense).

UPDATE: Giving the user arcgis full permissions did not fix the problem. That particular user did not have full permission before. I believe it. Although, I don't understand how my permissions changed because what I did was replace another layer that was in the same folder and didn't present the same issues.

I have recently been getting an error when I changed some layers in a map service. The layers are shapefiles and are not registered with the server at this time. I am ok with them being copied to the server but it appears they are not actually being copied when being published. The other layers that are registered in this map service are being published just fine. I checked the logs and found this error which doesn't make any sense to me because no errors show up when trying to overwrite the service. The only issue is that the data is not registered and must be copied to the server. These are small shapefiles so this shouldn't be an issue for publishing.

UPDATE: We are currently working on moving to HTTPS. Its just a process, but I plan to have it in place before 2020 Lord willing and the creek don't rise. Everything I have is HTTP now. If this hasn't been enforced yet, why am I not able to access my "non-secure" services? I'll talk to IT. Also, apparently I was doing something wrong as I can now get to the place to add a layer from the web.
