I have been working on trying to migrate some of our basic mapping and data editing workflows over to ArcGIS Pro but it is frustrating when I am importing in the existing MXD that I have been building these maps or have been editing in and while is shows the data, it doesn't build the database connection to the SDE Geodatabase that I am working with in this ArcGIS Pro Project resulting in me having to insert the database connection myself which one would assume would have been brought in when I imported my ArcMap Document into ArcGIS Pro.

We are looking to be upgrading our ArcGIS Server and we are considering making the move to Portal internally but right now we have been publishing Map Services to our ArcGIS Server using ArcMap and that functionality is going away with ArcGIS Pro. I was wondering if someone is using Spillman Flex with ArcGIS Enterprise and could shed some light on any challenges or improvements that you have seen moving from Map Services to Portal. Thanks!

I was able to get it to work without the list function. To my knowledge I do not think that Arcade supports list functions. I wasn't able to find it in the ArcGIS Arcade documentation. Here Arcade expression I was able to get to work with putting the values of the "list" on separate lines. "<BOL>"+"<UND>"+$feature.field1+"</UND>"+"</BOL>" + TextFormatting.Newline + $feature.field2 + TextFormatting.Newline + $feature.field3 Let me know if you have any questions

Is the list going to be drawing from a field or is it just going to be text in the arcade expression?

Hi Steve, You bring up some good ones. I doubt however that ArcGIS Pro will ever support personal geodatabases because that was a Microsoft Access database saved as a .mdb. When Microsoft switched their file format from .mdb to .accdb (Access 2007), to my knowledge, they stopped allowing new versions of Access to create .mdb files. For the export to Illustrator, have you taken a look at ArcGIS Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud? I haven't used it but I know the premise behind it is being able to bring maps into Illustrator.

The other day, I decided to start a list on the whiteboard at work of what ArcGIS Pro would need to have before we would be able to consider adoption of ArcGIS Pro in our current environment. So here are some disclaimers about our environment. We are currently running with 2 - ArcGIS 10.2.2 Server Enterprise Standard (1 for GIS and 1 for Spillman) and we are currently running 10.3 ArcGIS Desktop. We have not deployed Portal and we are only using ArcGIS Online for our Public Mapping applications that are being fed from Map Services hosted on our ArcGIS Server. So here is our list of items that we would need in order to adopt ArcGIS Pro Support of Parcel Fabrics (I know that this is on the road map) Hyperlinks within Pop-ups to PDF files being user friendly - This is a combination of two enhancements ENH-000107706 and ENH-000107704. Our issue here was that when opening a hyperlink in ArcGIS Pro, it disregards your default web browser settings and opens up IE. If you have Acrobat Pro and Adobe Reader installed on your computer and you are trying to open a PDF via a hyperlink, it can take up to a minute to load the PDF even if the PDF is store on a local file share. Make ArcGIS Pro honor system's default web browser when clicking links Arcade Expressions being allowed in Pop-ups. Pop-up Arcade Expressions in ArcGIS Pro As we are using Spillman and we are publishing to ArcGIS Server directly, we would need to either have ArcGIS Pro be able to publish to ArcGIS Server directly (ArcGIS Pro Publish Services To ArcGIS Server) or figure out a way to still support our Spillman implementation. Support of Attribute Rules and the creation of Dynamic ID's for features (In road map). It would also be great for this to work in a versioned environment as well. We currently have a nightly process that runs every night populating Flood Zone, Zoning, General Plan, and other attributes to our Production Parcel Feature Class that is outside of our Parcel Fabric. As this relies heavily on VB Scripts in Field Calculate, it would be great to have it support VB Script and not only Python. To change our scripts would take many man hours that we just do not have. We currently deploy mxd's across the city and if we were to move to ArcGIS Pro and build the database connections, we would have multiple local database connections floating throughout the city. We would like to be able to access .sde geodatabases how we currently do within ArcMap when adding items to the map in the file explorer window. ArcGIS Pro: Allow connection to .sde files in folders Being that we have many people using ArcMap that don't know our instance name or authentication method, they have no way that when they are creating new projects to build a new connection every single time they create a new project. So this goes back to the above idea as another use case for allowing connections to SDE Geodatabases within the file structure and not through adding new connections. ArcGIS Pro: Allow connection to .sde files in folders Finally, if Esri insists on connecting to SDE Geodatabases through a database connection in the project then it would be helpful to name the SDE Geodatabase connections based upon the database name and not the instance by default. We have many SDE Geodatabases point to a single instance (Production, Staging, and Development) and if we add the more than one connection from the same instance, it would be named by default instance.sde, insance(2).sde,etc. ArcGIS Pro Database Connection Naming based upon Database not Instance This is just my first pass after about 2.5 weeks of testing our ArcMap workflows against ArcGIS Pro. I am sure that as I play with it more, I will find more things that I miss from ArcMap. But overall, I see ArcGIS Pro as a huge step forward in the walk with Desktop GIS software. Since I don't want this to only be a rant about what I don't like. Here is a list of features that I love in ArcGIS Pro. Multiple layouts! We used to have multiple ArcMap files for print jobs based upon the size of the print. Now I can have one file for one type of print job and have all my layouts in there! HUGE SPACE SAVER! Dark mode/light mode! 64-bit Multi-threaded Application allowing me run a tool and continue to interact with the map. ArcGIS Solution Deployment Tool (add-in) Tool Ribbon is now more User Friendly Editing workflows are so much easier

I, like I feel most people, have multiple .sde databases underneath one instance (Production, Staging, Development, etc.). When I as the GIS Analyst am working in ArcGIS Pro, and I build a database connection to both my Staging and Production database, it doesn't name them based upon the name of the sde geodatabase but rather based upon the instance. I therefore get instance.sde, instance(2).sde, and instance(3).sde. I would like to see ArcGIS Pro recognize the database name and name the connection off of the name and not the instance.

jshaner-esristaff Is there any plan to also enforce database rules when it comes to NULL values. Currently, Survey123 is the only app that will prevent the users from submitting the form if they have not filled out all the required fields. Even though in the Geodatabase that I created the Hosted Feature Service in I said for a field to not allow NULL values, Collector still allows them to bypass the field and submit the form. Thanks!

I second this. We just had an Esri Tech Support Case where the issue was that I was linking to a pdf and I had Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader installed on the same machine and because it defaults to Acrobat over reader as the default pdf handler, it was taking 45 seconds to load a that was hyperlinked. This issue was only replicated in an IE environment and Chrome and FireFox had no issue opening the same URL path. For us at my city, we would need either a change to allow the acceptance of the default web browser or for the integration between IE and Acrobat to be fixed in order for us to consider adobpting ArcGIS Pro. Our direct workflow is that we have hyperlinks currently being consumed through ArcMap, which have no issue, that our front counter staff rely on daily (recorded subdivision plans, FEMA LOMA documents, etc.). This path in ArcMap is currently a direct path <server name>\Engineering\FEMA\<case number>.pdf and it opens fine without going through a web browser however this link style isn't possible in ArcGIS Pro and it must be go through a web server in order to pull open the link. In my eyes there are many changes that should be considered with the hyperlink process in ArcGIS Pro.

I recently ran into an issue where we were pushing out our crime data from a service in ArcGIS Online that is referencing a REST endpoint on our ArcGIS Server. I noticed that our crime web map had 200 + anonymous views even though we wanted the public to interact with the Crime Data from our Web App. I would like for Web Maps and layers to be able to be shared publicly so that it can be referenced in a public app but have the ability to toggle on an off if we want the underlying data and web map to be searchable for others to consume through searching ArcGIS Online, a Search Engine, or in OpenData.

We are about to deploy a modification of the Streetlight Inventory Solution using collector and our Public Works is wanting to collect the street names for the street that the pole is on as well as the cross street. I have built the domain for all streets in our city though exporting out distinct street names from SQL but I was wondering if there was a way to point collector to another feature service for the domain so that we don't have to rebuild the domain as we build new streets or new subdivisions go in. If this is not possible I will post it to the ArcGIS Ideas. Thanks!
