Hi Jonathan Quinn We have an ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6.1. environment. I have powershell scripts that do a full webgisdr backup on Sundays and incremental backups every other day. The VM servers are also backed up everyday using Commvault as part of our organisations enterprise backup policy. My first restore strategy would be to restore from the webgisdr tool given the interdependency between Portal, Server and the Data Store. However, if the webgisdr restore process failed for some reason I would then try and restore from VM. I understand that a restore from VM can be problematic due to the timing of the backups . I notice you wrote in a previous GeoNet question "Some organizations rely on VM backups, but they have to be timed correctly with file server backups so you capture the data of the entire deployment at a point in time. If you take backups at different times, you'll have differences in the dependencies between Portal, Server, and Data Store which will cause issues when you attempt to restore the backups" So I contacted our backup provider to check whether or not VM backups all occur at the same time. The response I got was that the backups are scheduled to all start at the same time however because of the way Commvault performs resource management it cant be guaranteed that all of the backups will start at the same time. This is done so as to not flood the VM environment. Essentially they are queued and run through in sequence. My question is how close together do the backups need to be performed. Is within the same hour ok ? (this is out of business hours and no updates to the system should be taking place). Or do the backups all need to be done at the precisely the same instant? Thanks, Clinton

Hi Diane, Are you by any chance getting warnings in Chrome Dev tools when you log into server manager saying that a cxhelp.xml file can't be found? I've checked my server configuration and the help files are at the following location: C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Server\help\server_help\en\cxhelp.xml not help/en-us/cxhelp.html I''m wondering if this is where the : "Error parsing help links: Premature end of file." error is coming from ? Thanks, Clinton

Hi all, I'm getting the following Severe Error in my ArcGIS server (10.6.1) logs. Unable to instantiate class for xml schema type: ArrayOfCIMMapScale Any ideas of what the Unable to instantiate class for xml schema type: Error is and how to resolve it ? The error code is 50000 I can't seem to find this in the Server Error Codes? Thanks, Clinton

Hi all, I logged the repeated failed login attempts with ESRI support. We couldn't get a resolution on what was causing the issue. I ended up unregistering the datastore from the Hosting ArcGIS Server. I then uninstalled and reinstalled datastore and subsequently re registered it. This seems to have resolved the issue as I no longer have any attempted login attempts. Thanks, Clinton

Hi Thomas, I re-indexed the portal as you suggested however I'm still getting the same error. It is definitely only happening when I try and view details. There don't seem to be any issues with the hosted view in terms of accessing and viewing it. I set the Portal Logs to debug and created a new hosted view as you suggested. There don't appear to be any issues in the Portal Logs. Thanks, Clinton

Hi Diane I'm also getting the same Premature end of file warnings. We recently upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6.1 and this is a new error since the upgrade. My server is running fine. Although I'm also getting some severe warnings regarding being Unable to instantiate class for xml schema type not sure if they are related.

Hi Dave, I had a similar issue when I upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6.1. You might want to check the API version in the Server Administrator Directory refer to thread below. https://community.esri.com/thread/230712-unable-to-use-javascript-preview-service-in-server-manager Thanks, Clinton

Hi all, I've created a hosted Feature Layer with 22000 features. I then created a Hosted View to stop user from having editing access. While the view seems to have been created successfully I get the following error. This is weird because I can open the view and access the rest end point. All the attribute information looks correct. I can even use the view successfully in a Web App. If I log out of Portal and log back in a then go the the hosted view's item details I get the same error. We're running ArcGIS Enterprise at 10.6.1. I can't see anything in the Server or Portal logs. Any ideas? Thanks, Clinton

Hi all, I've just upgraded my Web App Builder to version 2.12 and have associated it with my Portal that is running 10.6.1. I can successfully open Web App Builder and create a project however only when I don't enter values in the Portals Security Allow Origins field. This seems to be at odds with the following technical document https://support.esri.com/en/technical-article/000018879 that suggest that Web App Builder won't work unless your machinename.domain is added to the Allow Origins white list ? If I add the domain name of the machine to the Allow Origins I get a continuous login redirect when I try to approve access to the portal. I was going to add the following to the Allow Origins to restrict CORS requests - my domain e.g. https://xyz.com any machines that have web app builder installed https://machine1name.domain https://machine2name.domain? Rebecca Strauch, GISP you did you ever add Allow Origins to AGOL as per this thread https://community.esri.com/thread/175351? Thanks, Clinton

Hi, This was quite a long process to resolve. ESRI tech support gave me a number of senarios that I had to work through before I managed to delete the orphaned items. As this was not a standard fix I would recommend contacting ESRI support directly. Thanks, Clinton

Hi, I have an external facing Portal at version 10.6.1. The Portal webapator is sitting in our DMZ. The following security presentation (https://downloads.esri.com/resources/enterprisegis/UC_Web_GIS_Security_Strategy.pdf ) by randall_williams-esristaff recommends that the portaladmin interface isn't exposed to the public. To restrict access to the portaladmin I had a firewall rule added that prevents anyone outside our orgainsation hitting urls ending with portaladmin e.g https://xyz.com/arcgis/portaladim. I thought this would have worked however when I look at fiddler it appears that Portal makes a call to the portaladmin to check if a token is required? https://xyz.com/arcgis/portaladmin?f=json&ts=1561679026551 When external users try to get to the portal they are getting an internal server Error 500 and are redirected to a create or join portal page because of the above request being blocked by the firewall rule ?. GET https://xyz.com/arcgis/portaladmin?f=json&ts=1561506980599 500 (Internal Server Error). Question How can I block access to the Portal Admin directory while still allowing External users to login successfully ? or am I missing something here? Any help appreciated. Thanks, Clinton
