I don’t think it ever hurts to know the general “basics” of a coding language, but if you are trying to get up and running in the GIS world, there are many resources available to get you started. I’m not familiar with the 8-month course, but if you are already familiar with the ArcGIS platform and the concepts of programming, you may be able to pick up what you need in less time. But that is just my opinion. Each person learns differently, so it may come down to how you learn and your goals with python (ArcGIS mainly, or for your job…or other interests). . Python itself, in my experience, is a very fun and robust coding environment, but I’ve been somewhat inactive for a couple years, so take that into consideration.

Congrats everyone! Nice to see all the familiar names and a few ones. There is always great work and contributions coming out of the GeoNet community. (and sorry I haven't been one of those lately, but hope to again this next year.)

Hi Clinton, I've been "offline" GIS wise for about a year. Just starting to look at things again, so I'm not at a point that I can answer your question. It's amazing how much changes in a year.

That seems to work. It was very slow on my end, but I think that is my network, not the forum.

It sounds like you have already tried building the overlays, which does usually help if with strange behavior at different scales (ie sometime checkerboard patterns, etc). If you haven’t already looked at these links, they may offer some solutions How To: Remove black or white borders from rasters in a mosaic dataset Workflow to clip borders, compress, geo-reference, mosaic aerial photos? mosaic of geotiffs and remove borders Edit: a few more link. I know that the check board isn’t your issue, but the solution may be similar...so not ruling out. How to fix the checkerboard pattern in Mosaic Datasets This fix is if the path changed, ie broken links to source files https://community.esri.com/thread/189456-build-overviews-for-a-mosaic-generates-blackwhile-tiles ——- On another note, as Curtis suggested, it would help others find your question...and help others in the future... if you could edit your title with a short description, such as “issue with borders at different scales of mosaic dataset” or something similar. If you are not sure how to edit the title, one of the moderators would be able to help.

I agree with Dan that this might require contacting your educational institute or tech support direct. (Edit: thought you were “out of country” but re-read it and just “out-of-state”, so deleted my note on that.) If you don’t have an internet connection, there are ways to authorize offline How To: Authorize ArcGIS Desktop 10.x Single Use offline Im not at a computer to check, but if it was authorized and working on this machine (which it sounds like it was) you may be able to find the authorization code in \program files\arcgis\license\bin. Or in your username\appdata\<local or roaming? >\arcgis ... etc. Again, not near my machine so trying from memory. Some of the folders/files may be hidden by your system by default, so may need to work with settings. but all that also assumes that there isn’t some other issue that is causing the issue. I have never encountered that error myself....but also have never used an educational license, so by no means an expert.

Hi Kathy, have you looked at ArcGIS Online Assistant yet? You can see and change some things like the URLs using that Keep in mind that Python and the API for Python are two different things. Give me a call and I can set you up with some more tools that might help (internally).

David Zimmerman My apologies, I was not trying to be insulting. I just wanted to find out the version. I wasn't sure if it was a typo on the version or the software, since there was an ArcPad 6.0. Sometimes getting clarity on the version is the first response you will get. Having just gone thru a bunch of mandatory security type training here at work, I'm paranoid about clicking on anything if the message is a bit off. Thus is the state of things these days. (and wanted to make sure you didn't get a bogus install disk...for you protection) However, as mimiller mentioned, it appears that the images are from ArcGIS Online and the licensing thru that will be for ArcGIS Pro 2.x. Desktop typically will have a number (for example ECPXXXXXX) but will depend on how the license was purchased. If you are the license manager for your org and you are getting that license, customer service would be your best bet. If you are not, talk to the person that manages your licenses. If this is a personal ($99/year), or a free developer license, there may be a different way to access. Please do not give up on Geonet and the forums. This is a way to get quick answers, and I really didn't mean anything negative by the question, just being cautious for both of us.

ArcGIS 6.0? Was there ever a 6.0? Or are you thinking ArcInfo Workstation 6.0? It seems like ArcGIS Desktop when from ArcView 3.3.x to ArcGIS 7.0. Although my mind might be a bit fuzzy on that. Anyway, if you have a 6.0 version, I would make sure it is a legit install directory. (and I'm not opening you attached files, sorry).

Hi Michael Volz, Sorry I'm late responding.. The Compact version is in the cache's \\<server>\<drive>\arcgisserver\directories\arcgiscache\<service>\Layers\conf.xml near the end of the file. For 10.2.x it is: <StorageFormat>esriMapCacheStorageModeCompact</StorageFormat> For 10.5.1 (and maybe prior) it is: <StorageFormat>esriMapCacheStorageModeCompactV2</StorageFormat> color and bold added for emphasis. To get it to recognize my 10.2.x version, if the conf.xml file was already created, I needed to edit and delete the "V2". If you look at you tiles, you can tell whether the tiles themselves are the original compact or V2 by whether there are .bundle AND .bundlex files (version 1) or just .bundle files (V2). That helped me get the cache to work with 10.5.1, but the printing issue was with the default behavior as I mentioned above. (btw - I think the line you quoted had a typo on my part. The "of" should have been an "or" ...I really should proof read my posts better. I will fix that.) And since I'm here, I'll add the more succinct answer to the printing issue, provided by tech support After further review we were able to determine when publishing a map service to ArcGIS Server 10.5.1 "Allow per request modification of layer order and symobology" is checked on by default. However, this is not the case when publishing to ArcGIS Server 10.2.2. After unchecking the "Allow per request modification of layer order and symobology" the cache was recognized as expected for the 10.5.1 cache map service.
