What workflow are you using? There's no error message, even if you look under Geoprocessing > Results > Current Session? It's hard to help you troubleshoot without more information... Are you able to post the shapefile here?

This article has been a lifesaver for me and other GIS users in my company. We are all using method #5. Thank you so much for documenting this!

Sorry for such a delayed response, Michael. I've been out of the office for a while. At least based on my experience, it seems that yes, any older layer would exhibit this behavior. However, this is definitely one of our oldest features layers that we work with, so I don't really have another layer that I can verify this with. If I did republish the layer, then yes all web maps and apps that use the layer would have to be reconfigured. In my case, I think I'm just going to keep the old layer in there and work around it, since so many people use this layer in Collector for field use. Probably not worth the hassle of changing everything. Either way, I'm glad I found out what was causing the behavior!

Kelly, The point feature layer that I was having trouble with is one that was published back in May, 2017. Just now I tested adding a new field with the same workflow to a point feature layer that I just published yesterday, and it worked fine! The new field remains visible in the data table without having to go to the "show/hide columns" option. Thank you so much for your reply! It seems that the issue was specific to this particular layer, since it was published before the bug was fixed. Cheers, Katherine

So, I am still having this issue. In the data view tab of the feature layer item page, I click the triple bar "options" menu and add a field. However, whenever I view the table, I have to use the "show/hide columns" option to make these new fields viewable (this applies for any field that wasn't published with the original feature layer). I have to do this step every time that I view the data table. Can you elaborate on what you did to resolve this? Or are you still having this issue? It seems that the bug that Esri logged is exactly the issue that I am still having, even though they have the bug marked as "resolved". I am using ArcGIS Online 6.3 Thanks for any insight you can provide on this!

I tried the same thing and it results in a "Sql expression syntax error." when I try to verify it. However, I am trying it on a string field - would that affect it? (btw, I checked and the field does allow null values)

Thanks Mike! I don't have much experience with SQL, so I appreciate the help. How would I set the values to equal NULL with the field calculator interface? I know it shouldn't be in quotes since it's not a string, but the expression [Inspections notes = NULL] did not work. It seems that in ArcMap you can use VB Script or Python when using the field calculator, but in ArcGIS Online it's only SQL? It would be super useful if they had the same functionalities/interface. Or is this not realistic?

So, looking through Explorer, it doesn't seem that you can access the same functionality that you can in the browser version of the web map in the Table of Contents. Unfortunately it looks like the only option is to turn layers on or off. If you don't need the filter to be dynamic, you could set it up ahead of time in the Web Map in your browser and save the map so the filter automatically applies when the map is opened. However, this isn't very useful if you need the field guys to be able to set the filter themselves based on the project/situation. Sorry I couldn't be more help Good luck! Hopefully someone else on here will have a better suggestion.

I believe Explorer only shows the maps. If you need to look at the apps and can't do so in a web browser, have you tried ArcGIS Companion? It's another mobile app that allows you to easily view the configured web apps on your device.

Hi Mike, That was what I thought, but when I open the field calculator, I only see this interface where it seems that I can only set the field equal to other fields. It doesn't let me simply put something like Inspection_Notes = "No notes at this time." to get that value for all of the features. What am I missing here?

Hello, I have a point feature layer published in ArcGIS Online that is used on a monthly basis by inspectors in the field. There are multiple fields in the attribute table that they fill out for each point, and then I generate reports based on that information. At the end of the month I clear out the fields so they can use the same pins the next month to generate reports. I know that you can go to the data tab of the feature layer and click on an attribute to edit or clear it. However, I am having trouble finding a way to clear the entire column/field. It would also be useful to be able to set all of the features to have a set value, such as setting all of the features to have a value of "John Smith" for the "Inspector Name" field. Right now, the layer only has around 50 features so it is still manageable to edit them manually. However, I would love to know if this is possible for situations where I need to do this with much larger data sets. Is there a way to do this in ArcGIS Online? Maybe I'm just missing something obvious here, but it doesn't seem like you can do this with the Field Calculator tool. Thanks for your help!

Does your point feature layer have a field that specifies the city limits, and if not, do you have a way that you could add and calculate that field? If so, the filter widget should work just fine. I use a very similar workflow by setting up custom filters with the filter widget so the user can select to "show only parcels with [specified attribute]".

Hi, I appear to be having the same issue. I am the owner of a web app that I made using WAB, and I used to be able to click "Edit Application", which was right under the "View Application" button on the item overview page. However, recently I noticed the button is longer longer there, and there are only options to view, download, and share the application. It seems to only be this one application giving me trouble. I have built dozens of web apps using WAB and I am still able to edit those without trouble. Could this issue be related to the issue the OP was having? Is this a known bug in ArcGIS Online? Thanks!!

Wow, it's amazing the variety of solutions that have worked, and also not worked, for people having the same problem! I have had this issue since I started doing georeferencing work in August, 2017 using ArcMap 10.5. About 70% of the time, when I hit "update georeferencing", the image would shift so that it would be right next to the georeferenced position. The inconsistency made it even more frustrating! I looked at this thread back in 2017 and tried the solutions that people had suggested, but didn't have any real luck. My best option seemed to be to rectify everything just in case it didn't work, and then if it did, I deleted the rectified image from our server since the rectified images were much larger files. However, Kyle Bearden's suggestion seemed to help me. So far, clicking "update display" before "update georeferencing" seems to be helping keep things in place. Not sure why this is, but I really appreciate the solution. Thank you!! Best of luck to anyone else out there having this issue! (BTW, I tried georeferencing in Pro as a way to familiarize myself with the software and also hopefully avoid the issue, but my experience was that the georeferencing there was even more broken than in ArcMap. Not sure if anyone else has had the same type of experience).

Had the same issue as well. I had to change the WebApp to use the "SmartEditor" widget, which luckily works just fine for our needs, but hopefully Esri is able to fix this soon.
