What he said! The current workflow is a massive waste of time. And it makes the GIS publisher look very unprofessional to the end host when you are constantly asking them to change the URL of their embedded links.

Seriously??!!! I figured I just wasn't finding the function in Pro. This is one of the main reasons we were sold on switching to Pro: it was supposed to be easier to manage our web services. Arrrrggggg.....

..."most people did NOT use the connectivity rules"... ? So you need the Data Reviewer extension to use the out of the box LGIM for building a water geometric network? Or you have to migrate your string fields and domains to integer fields and domains so you can create subtypes out of them?

Thanks Jake. I did end up commenting it out with no issues. I’m on Python 2.7 and ArcMap 10.4.1. I also tried it in Pro 2.3 with whatever version of Python that uses (I’m still confused on how to switch between the two). Searching around, it looks like the Requests module didn’t get installed with Arc Desktop until 10.5. As I do have a requests module installed, it just doesn’t have the “disable_warnings” attribute, maybe Pro 2.3 comes with a version of the module that doesn’t include this attribute? FYI: I found the most recent “Requests” module installer on the web: https://2.python-requests.org/en/master/ ; I just haven’t gotten IT to install it yet to test. I don’t see “disable_warnings” in the TOC for the module, though. Stack Overflow says urllib3 is not part of the requests module anymore, as of the 2017 revision (>=2.16.0): https://stackoverflow.com/questions/27981545/suppress-insecurerequestwarning-unverified-https-request-is-being-made-in-pytho Joe Bryant GIS Coordinator WEST YOST ASSOCIATES direct 530.761.0226

Thanks for the helpful update, Robert! If you were planning on executing the script from Windows Task Scheduler, would you move the comments hash from the sys.argv variables and put them in front of the arcpy.GetParameterAsText variables in your script, or are you just explaining where those variable will receive their arguments from? In other words, do we need to use sys.argv for Scheduled Tasks?

Hi Jake, thanks for clarifying that you need to enable editing above. I had to create a new View, make it editable and use that service URL in the script (the layer I am updated is public so I shouldn't enable editing on it). I'm attempting to schedule this with Windows Task Scheduler and have altered the script as in your Notes. However, there is no attribute "disable_warnings' in the requests module. Any ideas? Here is the error: >>> import requests >>> requests.packages.urllib3.disable_warnings() Runtime error Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 1, in <module> AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'disable_warnings'

Thanks Cole! You're right; When you click the Create New Survey "+" button in Survey123 Connect, you are able to base the new Survey on an existing survey from your Organization, not just your personal content. I didn't see this option before. I'm not sure how the sharing settings for surveys effects this. If the pre-existing Survey is only shared with Groups within my organization, I'm guessing you will need to be part of one of those groups to be able to pick the Survey. I guess this makes the case for a "Template Group" for my users with Publishing Roles. I also tried your other method - saving the XLSForm to our fileshare network and then dragging it into Survey123. This worked as well, but didn't bring over the extra web service bits like the thumbnail, tags and description. I think the first option is the better time saver. But having a backup template form on the network is a good idea.

This is a workflow I need constantly. I have set up a Dashboard to track metrics from Survey 123 submissions of our client field projects. We do these projects all the time with many clients. I just want to create a copy of my complex dashboard and replace the webmap/data it references as the schema will always be the same.

Hello, I administer an ArcGIS Online organization for my company. I recently created a Survey123 survey (form, feature class, web map and dashboard) for a field workflow we use on multiple projects for multiple clients. I would like to allow other members of our organization (Project Managers with publishing rights) to create a new Survey (along with the empty feature services) from a Survey that I own that could functionally be a template. I don't see an option to create a new survey from an existing survey in the web browser. There is an option to create a new survey from an existing survey in the Survey123 Connect software. But this application only lists the "My Surveys" owned by the user and saved to their local machine. My goal is to enable project managers to quickly spin up a new survey for their project without having to get me involved to make a copy for them. What is the workflow to create these items in a way that they can be easily replicated?

Hi Francesca and Jim; thanks for providing this workflow info. I am trying to do the same thing, just with hydrant flow test forms related to hydrants. I get to step 12 (republish from Survey123 Connect), and I get an error saying: "The custom feature service submission_url is not compatible with this survey (Table HydTest_Test not found)." I am trying to determine if I got the submission URL wrong because I didn't completely understand your instructions, or if I am not able to use a custom submission URL because of some other setting. In step 9, is that URL verbatim up until ".../itemID"? Meaning, should you just replace the "itemID" with the ID from your survey layer service? Would this actually be the "ServiceItemId" listed in the JSON (a 32 character long unique ID, possibly a GUID). For example: https://www.arcgis.com/sharing/rest/content/items/############################### Or would we use the whole service definition URL as it appears in a browser when you click on the service definition? For example: https://services9.arcgis.com/S87ZWifpvPdYZ4nJ/arcgis/rest/services/HydrantTest_Survey/FeatureServer/0

Instead of deleting or replacing the string in the registry (I have not found a zipped download of the default registry entry for the current versions of ArcMap), I just edited the "WindowsPos" string to be "0,0,0,0". This successfully caused the Item Description Window in ArcMap to open in the upper left hand corner of my main monitor. For me on Windows 7 using ArcMap 10.4, this is located @ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ESRI\Desktop10.4\ArcCatalog\Settings\DescriptionWindow You can access the Registry Editor utility by typing "regedit" into your start menu. Start the executable, navigate to the folder for your version of ArcMap, double click the "REG_SZ" (string) file, and type "0,0,0,0".

Great question, Ray! I'm now wondering this, too (I do most of my work on the potable water side, but am getting involved in more storm projects). Our firm recently performed a pilot project with one of our clients where we used Collector and high-accuracy antennas to collect storm drain assets. We may have used a mix of centimeter and sub-meter units for this. I will ask our editors and analysts if it made much difference to them when they were cleaning up the data before delivering. My hunch is the most important part would be the difference in vertical accuracy. But I believe we used the separately measured invert distances and LiDAR data for critical elevations.

Jake, I'm also researching this right now. I haven't found a definitive answer, but here are some other posts I've found with more info: https://community.esri.com/thread/193405-should-i-split-my-service-lines-at-the-valve https://community.esri.com/thread/162125 https://community.esri.com/thread/219722-split-water-mains-at-valves From an asset management point of view, I can see it being problematic to have a separate record/ID for the small section of "main" (which is really the flange or mechanical joint) between the center of the valve and the center of the fitting. It's also more work! I also know methods differ on what is preferred for hydraulic modelling. Since demands get assigned to the nearest node, I've been told it's advantageous to break the main at the valves and assign the system valve feature class as a node in the model. I guess the hydraulic model closes pipes instead of placing barriers at points, like in the geometric network. Breaking the main at the valve allows the model to shut the small section of main between the valve and the fitting, while still providing flow to the demands that have been allocated to the valve from the other direction in a looped system. Lastly, I'm curious what the schema model for the new Utility Network expects for pressurized water distribution systems. My thinking is that if it expects splits at the valves, it will be easier to migrate if you just get it done now in the geometric network.
