I am currently looking at migration strategies for migrating our on-premise ArcGIS Enterprise deployment to AWS. I know there are a couple migration strategies we could use, but the one I am looking at is the "lift and shift" strategy. This is where we just copy our VMs from on-premise and put them in the AWS environment. My question is if this is a recommended or viable migration strategy we should use? Or would we be better off using other migration strategies, such as using webgisdr to do a backup and restore of our servers? We have a 4 machine deployment, along with the config store also stored on a server, all of which will be migrated into AWS. Since it is a "lift and shift", all hostnames will be staying the same. The only thing that will probably change are the IP addresses. But we used hostnames when configuring ArcGIS Enterprise, so I think we will be okay with that. The "lift and shift" strategy is the most simplest and straightforward for us, but I haven't seen much documentation on if this is a viable strategy for migrating ArcGIS Enterprise into AWS. Or if this is just a bad idea with disaster written all over it. Are there any reasons why we shouldn't use this migration strategy? Or anything to look out for if we choose this migration strategy?

I ran into this issue today. Apparently, the "federated_server_url" is pretty picky with which URL you use. Go to the Portal Admin Directory and go to your federation page (Home > Federation > Servers > your server). Then, use the URL listed in the "Url" parameter on that page as the "federated_server_url" parameter in your script. That fixed my issue.

Esri has confirmed this is in the product plan for Field Maps. I'm assuming it will never be implemented in Collector since that will be deprecated soon, and I'm not sure about AGOL/Enterprise. https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/field-maps/field-mobility/introducing-arcgis-smart-forms/

I have also experienced this at 2.8.1. I had to downgrade to 2.8.0 in order to get the untools to work. Very annoying.

I am just doing this for a personal research project. To keep it short, I'm mapping all of the amateur radio repeater/transmitter locations in my state and doing a viewshed analysis to see who is and who is not covered by repeater/transmitters (coverage is typically line of sight from repeater, up to approximately 30 miles). The viewshed is perfect for that and I've already completed that phase of the project. But, I am looking into taking it a step further to see where we could build additional repeater/transmitter sites to ensure everyone is covered (since amateur radio can be used in emergency situations and is often the last form of communication available since it doesn't rely on any IT infrastructure to run). So, being able to determine the optimal locations where a repeater would cover the most area with the least amount of repeaters would be really useful. This is purely for my own personal research purposes though. It is totally fine if it is not possible. I figured if there was something out there, it would be so computationally expensive it would probably be impossible for me to do. Thank you for your suggestions. I will definitely look into that!

I am looking to do a reverse viewshed analysis. I have a DEM and I can use the Viewshed tool to determine what is visible using a set of observer points. However, I would like to do the reverse of this where I use a DEM to find observer points that can maximize visibility with the least amount of observer points as possible. Basically, I want to find observer points that will make all areas in my DEM "visible." Hopefully that makes sense. Is this something that is possible to do within Esri?

That explanation in your link makes sense. It still seems a little convoluted, but I also understand the reasoning.

I tried deleting and re-deploying before writing this post and that didn't work. But, just as a sanity check, I tried doing that again and it worked. I guess the third time is the charm. Thanks!

I am having an issue downloading Water Distribution Data Management For ArcGIS Enterprise v1.1 zip file that is included when I deploy the Water Distribution Data Management for ArcGIS Enterprise solution (https://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-solutions/latest/reference/introduction-to-water-distribution-data-management-for-arcgis-enterprise.htm) When I go to the item page and click download, it gives me an error saying "Item does not have a file." I've been able to download other solutions, but not this one.

I'm currently using ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9 and the latest version of field maps on my phone. I noticed today that maps that are shared with the entire organization, but are not a part of a group and that you aren't an owner of that map, are not visible in the Field Maps app. For example, User A shares a map in Portal with the entire organization, but does not share it with a group. Since you are sharing with the entire organization, it shouldn't be necessary to set group permissions. User B signs into the Field Maps app (both in iOS and Android) and the map is not visible. The only way for the map to be visible is to: Share the map with a group and make sure User B is in the group Make User B the owner of the map Having to create a group to share a map that is already visible to the entire organization is a little convoluted. Why do we have to create a group to be able to view maps in Field Maps when the map is already shared with the organization? My idea is to allow maps that are shared with the organization to be visible in Field Maps without having to create a group, share the map with the group, and adding any users to the group.

I had this exact same problem a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, it is an error message that Esri does not provide any documentation about, so I had to figure it out for myself. For me, it was because ArcGIS Server did not have the SSL certificate imported. There is a pretty easy way to test this. Try going to the ArcGIS Server admin endpoint (https://domain.com/webadaptorname/admin ). If your web browser is giving you an SSL certificate issue message, then that is most likely the problem. You'll need to import the SSL certificate into server and configure server to use it. After I did that, I was able to set my hosting server with no issues. https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/server/latest/administer/windows/configuring-https-using-an-existing-ssl-certificate.htm

It has been brought to my attention that a bug within ArcGIS Pro will not be addressed because it is "not in current product plan." For reference, see bug description and Esri's response below. Esri BUG-000123133 - The Share Package tool fails with the error message, “ERROR 999999: Something unexpected caused the tool to fail. Failed to execute (SharePackage)” when the user is a part of more than 53 groups in the ArcGIS Enterprise portal." Public Explanation: Will not be addressed. Despite the error message, the process completes successfully. User may disregard the error or remove the user from any unneeded Portal groups until they are in fewer than 54. It is disappointing that Esri's response to this error message is pretty much "technically, it still works so just disregard the error message." This error makes it significantly harder when scripting this tool in Python because the tool fails, causing the entire Python script to fail (without adding any exception handling). Since it appears that this behavior is acceptable by Esri's standards, I propose that Esri update its Share Package tool documentation to show how and when it is "normal" for this tool to fail and any workarounds to get around this issue. Otherwise, you will have other users also encountering this issue and needing to know how to resolve it. I'm sure other users would be appreciative if this bug was documented in the tool documentation so they knew it was expected behavior, especially since a lot of the bugs aren't publicly searchable (to my knowledge).

Is there a way to customize or modify the Survey123 Item ID in Portal? For example, changing https://domain.com/portal/home/item.html?id=4a4f0659e8dd442a9adcfcac87bb0f53 Is it possible to change that item ID? Since Portal seems to randomly generate an ID every time you publish a Survey123 form, it would be nice to be able to customize it, especially when going from a development Portal to production. When testing in a development environment, it will generate an item ID and we can test everything using that item ID. Then, when we move to production, it would be nice to be able to maintain that item ID so we don't have to change it in other S123 forms, maps, etc. from the development S123 item ID to the production S123 item ID. Is there anyway to change it? Or, are there any other workflows that could we could use to easily migrate S123 forms from a development to production environment?

Okay, that makes sense. I did previously see the discussion you posted, but it was talking about FSx vs. DynamoDB. If S3 can be used, I'd prefer to use that as opposed to DynamoDB, just for simplicity. I didn't realize the server directories were the most sensitive. So, for a multi-machine deployment of ArcGIS Server, I'd create a single EBS volume that I'd attach to both ArcGIS Server machines and configure them to use that EBS as the server directory. That makes sense. Although, now I'm curious. Is there a reason why we couldn't use the EBS volume as the config store as well? Thank you!

I've seen various posts and documentation about how you can use either S3 or DynamoDB as the config store for ArcGIS Server in AWS. I've seen Esri documentation that uses DynamoDB as the config store (DynamoDB Config Store). And then I've seen Esri blog posts that uses S3 as the config store (S3 Config Store) What I haven't been able to find any documentation on though is which one is better to use? Or if there are any special considerations we need to think about when choosing one or the other? Does one have any better performance than the other?
