I don't know exactly how our network is set up. I actually have both an OS connection and a SQL connection just in case. It doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I versioned my data because at one point I had another editor that was working with my data. I really don't need that anymore as the only editing I don't do is through feature services. But I still have the issues with schema locks not releasing when I register the feature class as versioned again. So over my head and outside my comfort zone but I am trying to learn.

I appreciate that. I want to be clear that I am not saying this product is inferior. I think it really opens up the options for light users of Esri products. It just wont work for me. What I'd really like to see is basically just embedding an ArcGIS Online map (or an App) into a slide and it be fully functional as if it were in a browser. Now, I understand that Powerpoint does have its limitations as I have run into them for other things like embedded video BUT, that is on my dream list.

Well, it isn't totally sorted out because they still haven't addressed the total length of the credits themselves. I still think that Esri and business partners says the same thing. Or perhaps Esri World Topographic Map or Esri Imagery would say the same thing. The solution they provide and you suggested is an acceptable workaround though.

If my solution is to toggle back and forth, I may as well just pull up a webmap rather than use the limited ArcGIS Maps for Office. The legend is limited to a certain size (pixels I guess). Because the layers I want to show in the legend are complex, even adding one tells me it is too large so the legend is totally worthless to me. When I said static, I was referring to my maps that I created in ArcGIS Pro and brought the images into Powerpoint. The whole idea of the maps for office, I thought, was to make the maps dynamic within Powerpoint, not static. If its static, it is of no use to me as I already have the ability to add static maps without the add-in and have much better choices for layouts of the maps. Also, I am not using Excel at all, I am brining in the webmap directly into Powerpoint. Seeing the limitations of this product, I will not be using it.

Right, but the text is entered into the same box when you pull it up in Pro. It's just grayed out and can't be edited since it's a web layer. Here is the Idea: https://community.esri.com/ideas/16121

I noticed that behavior online as well. Pro does pull from the credits in the layer properties.

I am interested in using ArcGIS for Maps in my powerpoint presentations. I have it working but I would like to be able to toggle on/off layers within Powerpoint. I thought I could do this before but with the latest update there is no way to do this. My map will be used as part of a rezoning staff report to the Planning Commission. I'd love to be able to turn the zoning and future land use layers on and off while on the same slide with the same map. I typically use static maps created in ArcGIS which of course have limited capability since they are just images. I cannot have both zoning and future land use on at the same time because they overlap each other. Any ideas? Visible layers are included in the map slide by default. Layers that were hidden when the web map was shared are available but hidden in the PowerPoint map slide. This is from the help, it doesn't make any sense. I can only toggle layers in edit mode? Also, the legend feature is totally worthless to me as the limitation is to extreme, so much so that adding even one of my layers to it makes the map error out.

No exactly intuitive but I figured it out with help from the thread. Thanks. But I do have a question. Instead of: Sources: Esri, HERE, Garmin, Intermap, increment P Corp., GEBCO, USGS, FAO, NPS, NRCAN, GeoBase, IGN, Kadaster NL, Ordnance Survey, Esri Japan, METI, Esri China (Hong Kong), swisstopo, OpenStreetmap contributors, and the GIS User community Why can't it be ? Source: (c) 2019 Esri and business partners Many of the other sources in this list are not worldwide. For instance, in the US, Esri Japan and Esri China and Kadaster NL (among others) have no content here, so why list them? I realize this is called the World Topographic map but surely you see my issue. If that was the case, it could stay on the map frame without too many issues.

Took me a minute, but I figured it out. I have no issues with having the credits on the layout, what I have an issue with is how long they are. I want to use the Esri basemaps to ease map creation but I find the credits are too long. Its important to give credit where its due but to have zero control on how it's displayed is frustrating. Here is my example of the World Topographic map on a small layout. The map is unusable in this condition. Even if I could include the credits outside of the map frame that would help.

I just have a process that stops all services while I am doing my updates. I actively use feature datasets to organize my data. Whats funny is that Esri did the same thing when they created the Local Government Information Model which I used to create my setup. If my feature classes were all standalone, I'd never be able to find anything. I have no idea how many feature classes I have in my geodatabase but I'm guessing its pushing 100 or at least several dozen.

I'm running 10.6 without any speed issues. This tends to have more to do with your machine (or network setup) than anything. Pro has some bugs but what software doesn't. Also, what does this have to do with the original idea? I also believe that creating legends in Pro is vastly improved over ArcMap.

I finally got Office 2010 on my computer and decided to try this out. I was experiencing the same behavior. I enabled macros as suggested above and I still get the same results of the VBA window opening.

Christine Vandeyar-Wise, Don't upgrade your annotation without backing it up first! Test out everything with the new upgraded annotation first and then when you feel safe in deleting the back up, do so. Lesson learned!

That's an interesting idea if it works, would provide an acceptable workaround.
