I have kind of adopted the Local Government Data model and one of the things I am using is FacilitySitePoint for labelling. Using the template General Purpose map it works great at the larger scales but starting at 1:72000 I start having issues with labels not appearing. This of course is due to my maplex settings, so I what I thought I would do is set up a Label Priority field where I could tell the labelling engine which labels should actually be used at the smaller scales. I can't figure out how to do multiple levels though. I can get it to label based on a SQL statement for one but I can't get a second tier figured out. I thought I would mess with the numbering until the right labels appeared at the right times, but I can't figure out an easy way to do this without having to have multiple copies of the layers in the data frame set up differently. Is there a way to select which labels are more important than others based on a priority field? I guess what I'm trying to say is that I set up two labelling classes Priority 1 and Priority 2. I told them both to label. Trouble is there is no way to tell the engine that Priority 1 should take precedence over Priority 2. I tried changing the feature weight and that had no affect, I'm assuming because it is the same feature class. I'm using the SQL statement to select what is in the class: "LabelPriority" = '1' and "LabelPriority" <> '1' I've also tried to use "LabelPriority" = '2' but that didn't change anything. I have in the feature class a field called LabelPriority where I enter 1 or 2 or leave it null. In one case I had a feature with 2 and it labelled over another label with priority 1.

I decided to forego this process and just use the same labels for all of them. It isn't worth the hassle to have them look perfect, especially when nobody seems to notice the work you put into the cartography aspects of GIS. I actually have since stopped using popups all together as it seems Robert's Identify widget is far superior, more customizable and more familiar to end users.

I guess I'll just stay with the out of the box version until I hear from somebody on my questions. Trouble is the scale bar is in miles rather than feet. The smallest scale I use is about 1:50000 (1 inch=.79 miles) and that is rare so miles doesn't really do the trick for me. Most of my printouts for this widget will involve neighborhood or property level images so 1:1500 or larger. What would really help me is to be able to access directly the templates that are currently out of the box so that I can see how they work. Then somebody could just change out the templates in that folder if they don't like them at all. This would keep us from having to have yet another service and one that we can't put in the utilities folder (also odd). I think I will put this on the Ideas website. I'm guessing that unless there is a 10.1.1 that I'll have to wait till 10.2 to get any sort of changes made which is a good two years out.

ok, I was able to get that to work using a template sort of. First of all, if I don't enter a value in Title in the widget, Title is what appears. Maybe I should just put something like My Map as a default in the xml? Second, I added a Legend but all I get for that is the word Legend on the printout and no legend. Is there a setting that needs to be made to make this work? Lastly, I put a logo on the template and it does not appear. I attached what I am seeing.

Thanks Dasa, I had actually seen this in the past but it seemed like Greek to me at the time. Now that I have a bit more experience with Server 10.1, I understand what it is saying. Now, let's see if I can make it work.

Hi, I've been playing around with the new print Widget and 10.1 Print task in 10.1 and it works great! But.. it seems the <layouttemplates defaultvalue="XXX"/> tag (as shown in the sample "PrintWidget_exportlessoptions.xml") is being ignored. I specified <layouttemplates defaultvalue="Letter ANSI A Landscape"/> and it defaults to MAP_ONLY in the dropdown. When I put in the <formats defaultvalue="PDF"/> it shows PDF by default in the dropdown. Is there a link to updated documentation for the tag references for the new print widget? THanks, Chris I just added <layouttemplates defaultvalue="Letter ANSI A Landscape"/> and it does default to that. Perhaps something changed before the final release? I do have a question though, how do I change the templates? The templates aren't terrible but I would like to know if I could enhance them by adding my logo, forcing the scale bar to appear a certain way, excluding legend items, etc. All in all, I agree, this is a MAJOR enhancement to the original print widget. Also, how do I force the usescale to be checked? I want it to print what the user sees on the screen, realizing of course that this will be affected by their screen size. It seems the best alternative is to have the default be landscape instead of Portrait as most monitors are setup in a portrait mode but you still lose the scale a bit. My example is that at the default extent the force scale is 903 while the print scale without the check is 1561 as reported on the print.

I recently upgraded to 10.1 and my aerial imagery which is one single tile of MrSid, the imagery turns out with excessive reds. I opened the Image Analysis window and tried some different options and none seem to give the desired affect. The only thing that worked was to right click on the raster layer and click accelerate. The display looks fine in ArcMap but when I print or export to JPEG, the red is back as opposed to What is causing this and how can I get my imagery back without using the acceleration. The acceleration always throws an error when trying to create a service definition file that I have to remove and it just becomes a basemap layer. In 10.0 I just simply displayed it as a raster layer and then cached it for webmaps. On second thought, I added the layer again and this time it displays normally. What is going on here? I don't want to cache that imagery until I figure out why this is happening.
