If there is no coordinate information at all, then they are not georeferenced. Many of these older aerials have the section corners and potentially other benchmarks that may help you to georeference them.

I'm planning to start using the search box for the Header Controller widget. I thought I would use the added functionality of searching other services. Trouble is that, the first text shows Enter Address, is there a way to change this text to something else so that people will know they can enter something like City Hall and get a result?

This is a great enhancement, I do have a problem though, I was able to get some layers to be excluded but others wont work. Here is a snippet from the config file: <excludelayerfromlegend>Internal Webmap/0</excludelayerfromlegend> <excludelayerfromlegend>Internal Webmap/1</excludelayerfromlegend> <excludelayerfromlegend>Internal Webmap/5</excludelayerfromlegend> <excludelayerfromlegend>Internal Webmap/12</excludelayerfromlegend> <excludelayerfromlegend>Internal Webmap/30</excludelayerfromlegend> <excludelayerfromlegend>Internal Webmap/50</excludelayerfromlegend> <excludelayerfromlegend>Internal Webmap/51</excludelayerfromlegend> <excludelayerfromlegend>Internal Webmap/52</excludelayerfromlegend> Layers 12-32 are all under the group Parcels in my mxd. So Layer id 12 is that layer. When I tried to do layer id 30, it didn't actually remove the layer from the legend, so I added 12 and of course that did eliminate 30 but I didn't really want to remove everything under 12. Does that make any sense? An excerpt from my REST Services Directory is below. Layers 13-28 are all annotation layers.

Ok, so for example, you wanted to show the distribution of population for each state. So a state like Wyoming would be quite small and distorted and a State like California would be quite large and perhaps less distorted from reality. I guess that makes sense, just not something I have a use case for.

I'm not completely sure I understand what you are trying to accomplish. Are you trying to fit a large area onto a small sheet of paper? In that case, just zoom out. The scale of a shp doesn't matter, it can be manipulated in ArcMap regardless of the version you are using.

You could technically use it with a Basic license but you wouldn't be able to use the geometric networks and any topologies that may be attached. You'll have to load your data into the LGIM manually. Are you currently working with shapefiles or a geodatabase?

I never used ArcGIS Diagrammer but have used X-ray. X-ray is not that great at creating a graphical data model but does an excellent job of creating data dictionaries. I had issues with the graphical data model running off the page, text strings too long for the boxes, etc.

I really wish Esri would get over its love affair with Web Mercator. It is great for seamless nationwide/worldwide datasets but is not good for larger scales like City size (or even regional) which most of their customers work with. Can't get the precision/accuracy that state plane offers. I also prefer to use my own basemaps as I get to control the content. Much of the Esri datasets are full of errors for my area.

The pages are based on the index layer that is selected in the Set Up Data Driven Pages dialog. You could easily have pages that cover an area as small as a Census block or as large as a continent. I often choose quarter sections for the city but I've also attempted other shapes as well. What you want to focus on though is the Extent tab. If the polygons are all different sizes then Best Fit is your best bet or if you have specific scale in mind you can create a field in the index layer that tells DD what scale to draw each page.

It would be helpful if ArcGIS Server provided additional/better error information. That's the understatement of the year. I don't know how many times I've been given a generic error and had no idea how to fix it because I didn't know what the problem was. Many of the errors I've had require the use of MXD Doctor or checking each individual layer for problems. Of course, a generic error is better than no error at all which I've had a lot when I go to print and ArcMap locks up.

Chris, you can still use the Locator widget in 3.1 with your own geocoder. I use it without any issue, but, naturally still cannot use the search box in the Header.

I actually did start with Curb Ramps and did some modifications to it. I've also been working with San Francisco after seeing an article about theirs. I must have missed the sidewalk feature class. I have worked with the StreetPavement and probably missed this one. I may look into implementing Sidewalk since it is a line feature and I can add a field to it that shows it as an accessible route. I also might actually use the Owned By field on this one so that I can put private sidewalks in. I do still need to figure out the best way to collect this data. Anyone have any insight into this.
