Glad you got it resolved. In the next release, anytime there are hidden templates, we are planning to show a message to alert you and provide information on how to get them to display. If you (or any other users) want to become an ArcGIS 10.1 beta tester, you can apply to enter the program at https://betacommunity.esri.com.

Here are the main reasons why templates for editable layers are hidden and what you can do to make them appear in the Create Features window: ? The layer is not visible. You need to turn on the layer in the table of contents. ? The layer is part of a group layer that is not visible. You need to turn on the group layer in the table of contents and ensure the sublayer is visible. ? The layer has a visible scale range that is beyond the map's current scale. Right-click the layer in the table of contents and click Zoom To Make Visible to bring the layer into view. You can update or remove the scale range on the Layer Properties > General tab. ? The layer is from a parcel fabric dataset. You use the Parcel Editor toolbar to create new parcels, rather than the Create Features window. ? The layer has a definition query applied but the feature templates do not match it. You need to open the feature template's properties and set a default attribute value that satisfies the query. You can also update the expression on the Layer Properties > Definition Query tab. See the section on Feature templates and the table of contents here (contains an example case with definition queries): http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/Best_practices_for_using_feature_templates/001t0000004p000000/ This blog entry, in particular, Missing feature templates: http://blogs.esri.com/Dev/blogs/arcgisdesktop/archive/2010/08/02/Using-feature-templates-effectively.aspx The main philosophy is that the Create Features window does not list feature templates in cases where the features you create with it would immediately disappear from the map for one reason or another. We do understand that this has been confusing and are working on simplifying this experience for a future release.

You can click each feature in the Merge dialog box and flash its geometry on the map. Otherwise, I do not think there is a way to change the field shown. This is an enhancement request (NIM072117 - Merge dialog box for topology error fix should show layer display expression) that is resolved in ArcGIS 10.1 that would allow you to set the layer's display expression and have it be reflected on the Merge fix.

Right. You can double-click a message in the list to open a help topic with more information. This warning message opens this topic: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/Warning_Event_layer_not_editable/001t000002vw000000/

Some split operations update the shape of the existing feature and then create a new feature using the default attribute values for the feature class, which sounds like what you are seeing... You may want to contact Esri Support or your local distributor to about the issues you are having so an analyst can work directly with your data and workflows.

This should still work. Can you select the multipoint feature and look on the table of contents List By Selection and make sure that the multipoint is the only selected feature? You will get that message if you have multiple features selected when you try to go to Edit Vertices. You can also double-click the multipoint with the Edit tool to enter Edit Vertices mode. Once you are editing the vertices, click the Sketch Properties button on the Editor toolbar to open the window where you can edit the x,y,z,m coordinates.

Have you set up the split policy? Split policies define how attributes get assigned when features are split. You might need to change the split policy to Duplicate so the new features get a copy of the original, instead of taking the attributes of the Default. See Split and merge policies in http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//001s00000001000000.htm

Right, you sketch just like you would before. You don't necessarily have to snap the reshape sketch line, it just has to cross twice. Only difference to before is that, technically, there may be multiple edges selected. Since the selected edges are all connected, they just look like one long edge.

I posted a blog entry today that includes an example of reshaping multiple edges: http://betablogs.esri.com/beta/arcgis/2011/08/18/reshaping-edges/ The ability to reshape multiple edges (and trace to select them is new in 10.1). Keep in mind, though, that the selected edges must be connected. It also generally works better if the selected edges do not form a closed ring. Here are some relevant help topics and I have videos of all our new topology and alignment functionality forthcoming. Glad you like it. I just posted a blog about disconnecting and moving edges (formerly, "split-move"), reshaping multiple edges, and using Align Edge. http://betablogs.esri.com/beta/arcgis/2011/08/18/reshaping-edges/

Yes. ArcMap no longer automatically opens or closes any editing windows anymore. The Create Features window is only opened for you the very first time you start editing (per normal.mxt). After that, if you close it, it stays closed. In the blogs section of the beta Resource Center, I have a post that mentions this. See the part, "Create Features window remembers its previous state" in http://betablogs.esri.com/beta/arcgis/2011/08/01/feature-template-enhancements/ I have blog posts coming about what's new in editing (particularly on the topology and alignment enhancements). I'll put up about one every week or so, so keep checking there for new entries and videos.

Feature templates should work fine with Single Symbol. So, you are saying that you cannot create any templates for a Single Symbol layer? I just want to make sure that is your problem, rather than templates existing on the Organize Feature Templates dialog but not displaying on the Create Features window. With the unique values renderer, you generally cannot use templates with <all other values> since the features would not be properly symbolized or attributed and would disappear once you create them. The general philosophy for templates is that the features created with them must be able to be displayed on the map. Would it be possible for you to post your data so we can take a look? If you go to File > Create Map Package, you can make a .mpk that contains both the feature class in a file geodatabase and its map document. Alternatively, you can contact Esri Support so an analyst can work with you directly on this.

You're on the right track with the reasoning behind this behavior. The way to make the new feature meet the definition query is to set the default attribute value on the feature template properties before you create the feature. This way, the feature template will display in the Create Features window and you can create the feature on the map because its attributes satisfy the query. Scroll down to Feature templates and the table of contents: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/Best_practices_for_using_feature_templates/001t0000004p000000/ Definition queries and feature templates work best if the query is discrete, such as on a certain road type as in the example in the help, and are trickier to satisfy with default attributes when they involve expressions with equalities or system fields.

From your screenshot, all the shortcut text is missing from the context menu entry (for example, Length... should have Ctrl+L next to it), so there may be something conflicting that caused the shortcuts to be deleted. Are there keyboard shortcuts listed when you right-click with other editing tools, such as the Edit tool, and do they work? You can try resetting the shortcuts by going to the Customize menu > Customize Mode, click the Commands tab, and click the Keyboard button at the bottom. Go to the Editor category, click a command like Length, and see if there is currently a keyboard shortcut assigned. Do you have any add-ins, code, scripts, or other applications installed? Otherwise, try renaming the normal.mxt, uninstalling any scripts, or possibly running a repair on ArcGIS.
