Numerous complaints from folks about https://nps.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=c379cb0520c246f091917834ed22fd58 not loading in Pro (works in AGOL though!), turns out, a warning pops up about "Service Layer Credits Not Defined". Happening in 2.2 and 2.3 versions. This is a recent issue, works in ArcMap, we use this regularly. Suspect related to latest AGOL update?

You will be very happy with that 6 physical core i9, and you can drop 2 16's in that laptop in a year or 2 to meet what undoubtedly will be the pro min requirement of 32 GB. Only thing I don't like is the slow memory speed, but few Pro users are going to notice that. I think the i9 will support up to 4400 mhz memory? The issue is Dells are notorious for rejecting after market memory. But the good news is....you can upgrade. That video card is a solid performer with Pro.

You will regret it. We have found, through extensive, extensive testing in a production environment that budget laptops/workstations and Pro are a bad marriage, and result in a miserable experience for casual users such as your self. 3D Unicorns were not part of our testing. The pain point you experience will be the integrated video card, the lack of ability to go past 16 GB of RAM, and only 8 cores. The other brick wall you will hit is that hardware requirements for Pro ignore Moore's Law, and increase even more than processor speed. We have heard from ESRI that the Minimum requirements only mean that the software will start and run....not actually do anything meaningful. For a laptop, even for casual GIS use, at a minimum you need a dedicated video card (NVIDIA), doesn't need a lot of GPU RAM (4GB), and try for 32 GB of memory. The NVME SSD is a nice one, stick with that. That will get you at least 2-3 years of Pro use before TS is telling you "Not Supported: Doesn't meet hardware requirements".

In Pro 2.3.2, with a map with one SDE layer and no base map, when I go into Cat view, and select show metadata -> Geography, the grey canvas base map turns on as expected. When I go back to my map, the grey canvas is now listed in the TOC twice. I can't find this in the release notes, was this a new feature added at 2.3? When I have World Topo as a the base map in the map, this doesn't happen.

There is no disputing that M$ bakes IE into its current operating system. There is also no disputing that security isn't at the top, or even close to the top, of things that M$ is well known for. Some STIGS are calling for IE to be removed from datacenters, and/or some datacenters are taking it upon themselves to remove it. I think the point of this thread is, can the dependency on IE be removed? M$ Edge is a much more secure alternative than IE. ESRI want's the best security, right?

And the problems continue. In "Classic", I could click "On Device", and see only those maps on the device. I could also see the total number of Maps I could bring offline. In the new Collector, "On Device" and available are grouped in the same window, and everytime I restart the app I have to wait for the "available" to load, which is a very long time over crummy Wifi, before I can do anything, and the only counts I get are the number of offline maps in each group, not the total number of available maps. This "New" Collector seems like quite a significant step backward in functionality.

The "New" Collector has a lot of issues when compared to "Old": In "Classic", when Collecting a new polygon, even without a GPS connection, you could just tap the screen and add 1, or many vertices and just "heads up digitize" you polygon. This is handy when: Training users Using Air Photo as a basemap, the user simply wants to digitize bases on an outlines (e.g a field bordered by trees or roads). Our firefolks exclusively use Collector this way (Why should I walk around a 3 mile perimeter when I can just sit in the truck and digitize it off air photo?). In "New", the first problem is: As soon as you pick the feature type (in this case there are 4 possible polygon types based on symbology), the first point starts averaging. I don't want a GPS point, I want to "digitize"!. So now I have my first vertex, in order to add more, I have to use "Use Target Location" and pan and zoom around to center target where I want it. Doing this with 30-50 vertices using Air Photo is simply not sustainable. To summarize: Classic: Don't have to wait for a GPS connection, don't actually need one. Just tap on the map where you want 50 vertices, and there they are. New: First vertex has to be GPS only (You don't have a choice), have to zoom and pan for each of 49 additional vertices. Using the workaround to use sideloaded basemaps (When taking the map offline, select "World" resolution so you can actually use a basemap, then select your offline basemap in the map)....everytime you switch a map, when using multiple maps offline, the basemap always defaults to "Default", which makes sense, it's called "Default", but that doesn't make it any less annoying. In "Classic", whatever basemap you were using in Map 1, is the one you get when going back and forth from Map 1 to Map 2. I have one map with 4 layers, 2 of which are point. One of the points I turned clustering on, but I'm not getting clustering in New Collector. It defaults to the symbology baked into the service (same on old Collector). Is this something that's being planned (support clustering)? That sure would be handy.

Despite overwhelming support for turning the sync-via-usb capability back on (as it existed in Arc Pad), this idea has not made it into "In Product Plan" territory, which is very disappointing. Perhaps your vote is the one needed to tip it over, as lousy (or security-blocked) WiFi is pretty common issue with Collector users.

Yes! ArcPad could be used without a basemap, unsure as to why this is now required, and not an option.

Great! Kory, do the developers have a bug bounty? If so, mark a bug on that case and label it as "implemented"?

We have the exact same, frustrating problem, but not "every" time. For example, it was 3-5 minutes early this week, and GetPortalsLivingAtlasCategories was the culprit, but today it's 1-ish minutes to open, with random "instant opens". #02279274 When executing "Activate Catalog View" in Task Assistant, Pro 2.3 locks up. Closed with "Issue was network related.", which is incorrect, but with non reproducible cases like that, there's usually no path to a successful resolution. The analyst identified GetPortalsLivingAtlasCategories as where the hang was occurring. The fact that multiple orgs are now experiencing this lend more support to it NOT being network related. I'm going to stand up a Pro install on an Amazon instance (which I've recently discovered is a great way for myself and the analyst to both be testing in the same environment: I can grant them access) and will contemplate re-opening this case while I spend an entire 3-day weekend fixing plumbing. How frustrated I get with soldering pipes and losing PEX compression rings will indicate my willingness to roll up my sleeves with TS on a non-reproable issue. I am philosophically opposed to calling TS with cases they can't repro, and I've had a recent string of those, and a few that were in near-non-repro territory for a long while, wasting the analyst time. Gregg Roemhildt if you want to open a new case, which might be a good idea since you might have a slightly different environment, reference 02279274 and ask for "Danny R". Keep us posted! If you do open a case, one thing I suggest you do that we didn't do is do a Wireshark trace (not Fiddler, important distinction), and bring in a network analyst (your end) to definitively rule out "Network Related". ESRI may also have a "test" portal that you can connect to and they can run wireshark on their end, maybe? I have done that on cases past, but as of now, I don't have a WAN engineer handy. Another note in my case the problem was specifically related to using Task Assistant Manger, where I could repro it every time, and not on start up, where I can't consistently repro it. A few more details would help to. I've seen "unable to even use Pro" when users with Roaming Profiles (where their My Docs is on a network share) and the Pro default stuff is going on the share, as well as the number of PTL/AGOL groups a user is a member having an impact on start up time. I too wonder why GetPortalsLivingAtlasCategories is "needed". Perhaps if it's "desired" some checkbox can turn it on, but for the rest of us whom need to get work done, and not stare at spinning blue circles all day, leave it off.

In defense of ESRI, this has always been the case in ArcMap as well. http://desktop.arcgis.com/en/arcmap/10.3/manage-data/dimensions/creating-dimension-feature-classes-about-creating-.htm
