Hello Mike, The documentation I linked above says this about the group permissions: However, only the owner of the item or a portal administrator can perform the following actions on the item (not all actions apply to all item types): delete, share, move, change owner, change delete protection, publish, register an app, overwrite data in hosted feature layers, and manage tiles in hosted tile layers. Unfortunately, at this time it seems that only an Administrator or Item Owner can overwrite the layer. You are still able to "update" the content, but that means editing the features/attribute table; not overwriting. This can also be done with the Python API. You can loop through both datasets to determine what has changed, and update those records accordingly. It requires a few more steps and is a bit more complicated, but I found a sample script that walks you through an example workflow: Updating features in a feature layer | ArcGIS for Developers

Hello Mike! Unfortunately, the allow update capability granted by your group membership only applies to updating the item (for example, changing the metadata or directly editing the content). It does not give you permission to overwrite the hosted feature layer, which is why the script is returning the error. It is not an issue with the Python API; if you were to attempt to overwrite the layer manually using a desktop application such as ArcGIS Pro, you would have similar issues. Hi Jan and Zdeněk, You should be able to change the primary site administrator account with no issues, even if the site is federated. Make sure that you change it from ArcGIS Server Manager and not by editing the config files. In ArcGIS Server Manager, navigate to Security > Settings > Primary Site Administrator Account, then click on the edit pencil. It will allow you to change the username and password of the primary site administrator account. Note that when you make changes to your security settings, your server and/or services may restart. This should not break your federation at all, and you do not need to do anything after this. To make sure, I just tested it in my environment (10.8), and my hosted services are still working fine. Hope this helps! - Rachel

Hi Sorato, Yes, you can configure two Web Adaptors for one Portal. Keep in mind you will need to run the Web Adaptor installer twice to install two separate Web Adaptors; do not "double-configure" one Web Adaptor installation. Hope this helps! - Rachel

Hi Randy, It looks like the screenshot you tried to attach did not go through. Can you try attaching it again? Perhaps you need to configure the ground layer to allow underground navigation in the scene viewer. After clicking on the pencil to edit the scene properties, click on the three dots next to the ground layer: In "Configure Ground", make sure that "Underground Navigation" is enabled: Hope this helps! - Rachel

Hi Pamela, In your Portal, navigate to Settings > Security. You should see an option, "Allow access to the portal through HTTPS only." This is enabled by default in 10.7.x as a security best practice, but you can disable this option to allow communication through HTTP and consume these HTTP resources. You may also need to add an HTTP binding (port 80) to your web server (if access is through the web adaptor), such as in IIS below: Hope this helps!

You can import the password-protected pfx at the REST admin directory using the "Import Existing Server Certificate" operation. You will need to do this for both Server and Portal to establish trust. Server Admin directory: Navigate to machines > [machine name] > SSLcertificates > importExistingServerCertificate and browse to your CA-signed pfx certificate. Then, go back to your Machine page and click "edit." For "Web server SSL Certificate", add the alias of the CA-signed certificate that you just imported: You will need to do the same at the Portal Admin directory. Navigate to Security > SSLCertificates > Import Existing Server Certificate and browse to the CA-signed cert. Then, navigate to Machines > Machine Name > SSLCertificates > Update and specify the alias for the imported certificate. Hope this helps!

Hi Jon, Yes, typically you would want one Web Adaptor for Server, one Web Adaptor for Portal, and a Web Adaptor for each licensing role (Image Server, GeoEvent, etc). The reason why you would need a separate Web Adaptor for each licensing role is because these servers operate as additional ArcGIS Server sites federated with your Portal, and otherwise the end-user would have to access the sites through the port number, which is not a security best-practice. The way that you laid it out in your original post: Portal: /portal GIS Server: /server Image Server: /image GeoEvent Server: /geoevent This would be perfect for this kind of deployment. You will need to install and configure each Web Adaptor separately; for example, even if Portal and GIS Server are on the same machine, you will need to run the Web Adaptor installation twice. Hope this helps! - Rachel

Hi Nicole, Have you seen this page? 999999: Something unexpected caused the tool to fail. Contact Esri Technical Support (http://esriurl.com/support) to Report a Bug, and refer to the error help for potential solutions or workarounds. The page is a lot more helpful than the non-descriptive error message returned in ArcGIS Pro and identifies several potential causes and troubleshooting options. A few that stand out to me that might be relevant to your situation: 1. Check the name you are attempting to use to create output. Nonalphanumeric characters are not supported in a geodatabase. Similarly, geodatabase data names cannot start with a number. The following words are also reserved keywords in the geodatabase, so these words cannot be used on their own as a dataset name, though they can be used as part of a longer name: ADD, ALTER, AND, BETWEEN, BY, COLUMN, CREATE, DELETE, DROP, EXISTS, FOR, FROM, GROUP, IN, INSERT, INTO, IS, LIKE, NOT, NULL, OR, ORDER, SELECT, SET, TABLE, UPDATE, VALUES, WHERE 2. Check the location where you are attempting to create output. Can you browse to the location in Windows Explorer? Can you copy and paste files into this location outside of ArcGIS? If a Windows dialog box appears with the message that permission is needed to copy files to the location, there is a good chance this is the reason the tool is failing. 3. If your output data path is very long (containing many subfolders or a very long name), you can try creating the output with a short name in a location near the root of the drive. Do not attempt to create the output in the root of a drive, as modern operating systems usually prevent file and data creation in this location without special or administrative permission. 4. You can try to run ArcGIS Pro in administrator mode. Right-click the application shortcut and select Run as administrator. Perform the task that was previously failing. If the error was caused by access permissions, running as an administrator may allow the operation to complete successfully. Best, Rachel

Hi Nick and Jin, In ArcGIS Server Manager, check to make sure that the PublishingTools service is started. You can also try stopping and re-starting this service using the start and stop icons next to the service name: If your services are stopped or unable to start, you may want to open the task manager on the Server machine and examine the number of ArcSOC.exe processes and the CPU/memory usage to see if the Server is under high load. ArcSOC.exe processes are spun up on the machine when tasks are performed on that service (such as panning or zooming in a map service), but for services that are not used as frequently, you may want to consider setting the minimum number of instances per machine to 0 (on the pooling tab of the service): Also, what messages are you seeing in the ArcGIS Server Manager logs? These might give us more information, such as if the PublishingTools service is crashing at the point of failure. You may need to set the log filter to verbose to see more information. Best, Rachel
