Hello out there. My organization is about to take the leap to Enterprise 10.6 and we are also going for our first Azure application deployment. I'm looking for suggestions, documentation, ideas etc on how we might setup a test site without Manually creating it from scratch. Or maybe that's what we do need to do? some background: Currently we are using Server 10.3.1 (no portal) along with a custom internal web map application. Back when we built this, we built two sites from the ground up. Our beta server site which is on a server (testserver) feeds into a beta web map app (testmapapp.domain.com) where we are able to connect our other test apps to it. Example, our test salesforce site is connected to testmapapp.domain.com so we can test SF data in the testmapapp. Our prod server site and application (prodmapapp.domain.com) lives on a separate machine (prodserver). So all our prod apps are talking to our prod GIS sites. Hope that's clear enough? So now that we are going to Azure and plan on using Cloud Builder how would we organize our new env and how do we build them? One option I've been told is that we can just move our Azure site to a new server and have a replica site as a beta. That would work I think, but there are all sorts of other apps in beta sites we need to connect to, not the prod apps we will build our prod site with. So, how do you then change all the services so that they are accessed via test.mapapp.domain.com? From what I can tell if we just moved our entire site to another server in azure, wouldn't I just have another site who's services are all at prodmapapp.domain.com? So do we just change IIS or DNS so the test site we created is accessed with the test urls? Same with the enterprise gdb? Do I have to manually change the data sources on all the services and views so they are looking for testserver > enterprise gdb instead of prodserver enterprise gdb? I guess the big picture i'm looking at is whether we should clone our prod site in azure and reconfigure all the touch points so we connect to our other beta systems? OR do we just do the Enterprise build from scratch for Beta and connect it back to our other beta apps piece by piece? Maybe a hybrid approach? Any thoughts, recs?! Thank you Collin

Thanks for the feedback. I was wondering if you could expand on this for me?"and that we have to migrate to use the URL option that provide the new release"

Lourdes - have you been able to find a solution to this issue? We are about to make the jump to Azure and i'm struggling whether or not we need the Azure SQL or if we need to host an instance of SQL server. Thanks -

I'm also looking for info on this topic. We are about to start our move to Enterprise 10.6 and putting it in Azure. We spec'd out an instance of Azure SQL to host our enterprise gdb. But I'm reading here in geonet as well as this doc under limitations http://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/server/latest/cloud/azure/database-requirements-azure-sql-database.htm that we will run into trouble when our users fire up arcmap/pro from their laptops and try to make db connections/work with features in the e gdb. Is this true? Any recomendations? I'm wondering if we need to scrap our plan of moving to Azure SQL and stick with an instance of SQL server. Any insight, rec's or stories are welcomed. Cheers.

FWIW - I did find a solution to this issue. Our GIS server had an instance of I.E installed which was at version 9. When I upgraded this application to version 11 the security message that the GIS server was barking, went away and our maps printed. Nothing to do with the client side internet browser but the GIS server internet browser. I'm guessing there was a security upgrade/fix/patch with 11 that allowed our print service to work again. yeah Microsoft.... ugh.

Hi Jay - did you find a solution to your problem? I'm having the same issue in my custom web application. WE are utilizing the public FEMA NFHL service. When our application requests the data for display it works fine. We get the response and data draws. However once I use our print button (built with the Export web map - Server GP tool) I receive the same error that you have posted. The fun part (read as i'm losing my mind trying to fix) is that it works fine on my Beta but not on my Prod. I do have Portal federated with my server installed on Beta. I wonder if this is playing into the mix?

I'm having a similar issue. I have a hosted feature layer in AGOL. When I access the attribute table from a web map I am able to turn on and off all of the columns in the table. When I create a web app using web app builder and look at the columns in the attribute table window, one of my columns is missing?! I don't even have the option to turn this one column on in web app builder. What simple check box or instructions am I missing? Is there a maximum number of unique values an attribute field can have? Web map has access to all columns. Web app does not. I'm stumped. Kelly any solution to your problem?

Agree. What is taking so long for this to work for all of us? Seems like a no brainer.

I agree with running into trouble with the Self Signed Cert. I think i'm already seeing some of these issues, but while I wait for IT to help me with a CA issued, this will get me into the app to see how much trouble I can cause... Thank you for the IE tip and the other reference material. Greatly appreciated. Thanks again Paul Cheers -

And a big thank you Sir. That was fairly easy to fix... I'm sure I'll have more posts as I stand this thing up on beta. Navigate to Portal > My Organization Page > Edit Settings > Security > Check "allow access to the portal through SSL only" un-check "allow anonymous access to your portal" Seems to have fixed my problem. Thanks, Paul - Cheers.

We are just getting setup with Portal and I'm having some difficulties. I'm guessing my problem is relating to how I have IIS or the self signed cert. setup. I'm kind of new with IIS so this could be very simple. I recognize that using a self signed cert is not best practice for production, but this is just our test env and I am simply trying to get to a point where I can really start playing around with portal, deploying web apps to our local server using our AGS map services. However, I am seeing behavior where I navigate to the my content page https://<webservername>/portal/home/content.html without an issue. No cert warning etc. Then when I click any of the navigation links within Portal, the web address defaults back to http. so the my organization url looks like http://<webservername>/portal/home/organization.html I can fix it by simply adding the "s" after http, to keep moving along, but clearly there is some setting I'm missing. Anyone have an idea of what I'm missing?

Thanks for your response Steve. I think you might be correct in that you can't disable this on our own, within the AGOL environment. I can't find anything that shows this option. At the very least, i wish it would just WORK if it's going to be there. I have yet to find an example where it works and the content expands with the window. I don't get it. You will have to excuse my lack of knowledge on this, but how to you access the CSS for the embed map option? One of the limitations we are running into using this platform is that it seems our web developer is not able to adjust the CSS for the iframe code we provide using the "Embed Map" option. If there was a way they could access the CSS to 1)turn that button off 2) use custom fonts within the pop-ups. It would solve my problems for the most part. Is this something I can tell/help them figure out? Cheers

We are using the standard Web Map viewer within ArcGIS Online to create and publish a web map that will be used in a website. Once the map has been created I am using the "share" option within the viewer to share with Everyone and then click the embed in website button to get the HTML string to give to the web developer in order to include the iframe map in the website. One of the issues we have is that once a pop up has been opened there is a "maximize" button/icon next to the close "X" button on the top right of the pop up. When I click this maximize button, the pop up window maximizes, but the content within stays the same size. So it's just adds extra "white space" to our pop up. Is there a way to make our content dynamically fill out the maximized pop up window or can we disable to maximize option in the pop up window all together? this maximize option It's not working for us as is, pretty much useless, I'm guessing there is a fix somewhere out there?!

We are attempting to use an AGOL hosted web service in a website as an embedded map. This is the first time we have used the AGOL platform other than testing purposes so I am not totally familiar with capabilities nor do I have any experience with web development. The web developer wants to edit the CSS file or be able to allow our web service that is being embedded to reference an external CSS file. Clearly the options for fonts and style are limited in the AGOL web map environment, compared to say, ArcGIS Desktop. All I'm doing is copying and pasting the link from "Embed in website" option, sending it to the developer. Works like a charm, but Is it possible to use a custom CSS file in order to customize fonts and styles etc?
