I'm trying to get a few models to run via python after being initialized from Windows Scheduler. (Windows Server 2008 r2, acrmap 10.1.1, python 2.7.2) I have been able to get two of my models to run this way after exporting to python and setting windows scheduler to execute the python script. however, there is still one model that is failing, but only when run via python. Runs successful from the model / toolbox in our Enterprise GDB, no problems at all. I'm, not very versed in python so I can't really decipher what this error (below) means outside of the error code = append issue with mis-matched fields. The model that runs successfully, is using a table view, geocoding, appending points to a feature class in our Enterprise GDB. The model that fails is using a table view, plotting x/y, appending points to a feature class in our Enterprise GDB.This one seems to fail on the append. BUT only when run from python. Runs successful from the model / toolbox in our Enterprise GDB, just not from python shell. What is going on here, what ? anyone have insight? Please let me know if you need additional info from this tool or error. Fail message:: File "C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.1\arcpy\arcpy\management.py", line 3560, in Append raise e ExecuteError: ERROR 000224: Cannot insert features Failed to execute (Append).

Hey Bruce, That is great insight. Thanks for helping me solve this once and for all. I know this is all in the help docs, but sometimes they get too convoluted and this is a much easier forum to get right to the solution. Happy mapping, Cheers!

Any news on this front? We have this great KML file with all sorts of very useful data in the HTML popup. However it's all stored in the popup field in the converted point file and can not be read unless copied and pasted into a text editor of some kind. Looking for a python script or something to get this info out of the single field the proper attribute table format using multiple columns. I believe it's currently stored as HTML-formatted code stored in a text field. How do you parse through this stuff!?!?! How have people been accomplishing this task?

Do you have a multi ArcGIS Server environment where you load balance the servers using a web adaptor? I ask because I'm wondering if you would be polling the IIS logs on the AGS server(s) or the web adaptor? We do not have a multi site environment. We are using a single server but we are utilizing the web adapter. Not sure if this means we are polling IIS directly or the web adaptor. I assume web adaptor? Our AGS site is the only site on that particular server and web adaptor FWIW.

Collin: Do you know if this software is reading the AGS logs or just the IIS logs? I'm only lodaing the IIS logs at this point, not sure if it can run the AGS logs too. Still testing and pushing buttons.

Do you have a ballpark figure on how much you paid for this monitoring software? Back in 2006 we paid $70.00 for the standard edition. I was able to apply this registration code in order to get a discount on upgrading to the latest version for $50.00 instead of a new purchase of $99.00 for the basic version. Seems like a steal considering the ease of use, returned data analysis and the lack of other free to cheap tools out there. Honestly, I wouldn't know what to do with the enterprise edition, but it must be pretty awesome if the cheap version does what it does. Hope this helps, cheers.

I have been doing some research on this issue as of late. I was able to pull an application out of our archives that we used to monitor traffic on our customized Arc IMS site. After some fooling around installing the newest version and configuring I was able to get some fairly good info. We are using IIS 7.5. One of the benefits of this tools is that because we use authentication we are now able to see who is logging into our arcserver site and what services they are using. I can tell if they are printing the map or just viewing on screen. I can see how much band width is being used per service request. All very good metrics to have on your site. All you need to do is configure your IIS server and site to log as needed. This tool will accept a zip file of your logs too. Pretty slick. Overall, I'm impressed with the results for the cost and have not seen this app referenced anywhere else in my digging through ESRI forums and GISstackexchange. Maybe I??m just bad at forum digging, who knows. Hope this helps you folks out there. http://www.weblogexpert.com

Good afternoon gang! I have been poking around all the ESRI resources, and didn't find exactly what I needed. We are looking at using the Image Server Extension to incorporate some topographic data sets as a basemap into our customized server site. Yes, I know there are already map services from ESRI and USGS etc that accomplish this. However, one of our requirements is that the SR of our basemap cannot be WGS 84,among other req's like owning our data etc. so there goes the cached service from ESRI Currently, we have 5 Raster Catalogs each containing a specific geographic area of custom topo map images. Soon we will have 5 raster catalogs which contain imagery in this same geographic extent as the topos. These will both grow in data over the coming years Is it possible or recommended to store our data this way if we want to serve as a single image service? I ask because I have not been able to figure out the best way to create a Referenced Mosaic using more than one Raster Catalog, hence why we only have a single image service for each Raster Catalog or ref mosaic. If our dataset will eventually grow to TB sizes, I would assume a single raster catalog would NOT be the way to go, but maybe I'm wrong? What's the consensus out there? How should we attack this?

Thanks for the reply George. I should have been a better nerd and posted some of the results from our testing and ESRI calls from the last few months. We had the same recommendation from our support rep. (truncate table tool) however this would not work for us, and luckily we tried this on beta first. We are only trying to remove a few records from our table based on a view into another system. What we did discover is that there seems to be a bug, or at least bad performance at 10.1.1 with the delete rows or delete records GP tool when the storage type of the data is Geometry. Our old SDE had been using the old ESRI SDEBinary storage type. When we moved to the new server and SQL release, we had not changed the default data type, so it went with the new Geometry storage type. I'm hoping this is fixed in 10.2. I really do not want to deal with changing our data back to SDEBinary!! Cheers From ESRI Tech Support "One important change that took place between 9.2 and 10.1, would be the Default Storage type: The default storage type used to be SDEBinary earlier, which has changed to GEOMETRY starting from 10.1."

Does anyone else see issues with the Delete Rows GP tool hanging at 10.1? We are using this GP tool within a model that updates records within a polygon SDE feature class. Our model uses a view which is a table of of new projects. We are creating a temp layer with "Make Feature Layer" using a little SQL query so that the new temp layer has only the records that are in the new project view. We are then utilizing the delete rows to delete all records matching the view in the SDE feature by way of the temp layer>delete rows. The records are removed from our SDE feature class just fine. Our issue is in the time it takes to delete these records. Even when there are only 12 records to delete, it can take upwards of 7 minutes to run. Our SDE feature class is quite large (400K records) but they are indexed. We did not have this type of lag with our 9.2 env running on SQL 2000, so I was wondering if anyone had an idea whether or not this is related to 10.1 or maybe the way our SDE has been setup in the 10.1 env. Which is running on a SQL 2008r2 release. Cheers!

For feature classes, use Make Feature Layer (with a SQL expression), followed by Delete Features. For tables, use Make Table View (with a SQL expression), followed by Delete Rows. This thread is a bit old, but I wanted to see if anyone is having trouble with this process at 10.1? I use this in a model to first select sites from an SDE poly feature class using "make feature layer", based on SQL query using a view. Then I use delete features to remove those selected features from the feature class. This has been working for us over the last few years and releases. Now that we have moved our prod into 10.1 this process is taking upwards of 10 minutes (to delete 4 - 24 features most times) and seems to be taking longer each iteration which can be from once daily to three times daily. A month ago, this was taking 6 minutes and now we are seeing this take 10+ minutes. Any ideas as to why the time to complete is taking longer and longer? Clearly the addition of new features will cause the performance to drop, but 10 minutes to delete 20 features seems a bit long. I have Used the "Analyze dataset" & "Rebuild index" GP tools to try and get better performance. No luck. Any ideas or similar experiences?

I have some results to share with anyone who has been reading this thread. It turns out, another employee working on the development side had placed a trigger on the site table that had something to do with the append failure. We removed the trigger and success! I'm still working on getting the details. From the surface it seems as though the trigger had some logic where "if x,y are null then". It seems that because some of the records are not geocoded due to bad address they have empty geometry. Not sure how exactly, but this played into the mix here. I will update with any future developments.

Good morning, We have run into an issue within a model we have built to update a point file with new projects. We are using a table view to capture new projects. We use the table view as the input to a geocoding tool, we then take the output and "make feature layer" which then gets appended to our sites table. This worked just fine in beta and in production for months now. A few days ago this stopped working in production and we have no idea what the culprit is. The view is still functioning and the append is still working in beta. We have a separate model that uses a different table view to capture x,y of differing new sites. We then run this through a plot x,y and "make feature layer" and then append to the same sites table as mentioned above. This works FINE! It seems to be only the output from the geocoding tool and subsequent make feature layer and append that is failing. The error we receive is 000224. Which if you look at the error all it says is that there are possible mis-matched fields. I have reviewed this model multiple times and the fields are correct, and like I said, it was working fine the other day. I have delete and rebuilt the model, I have rebuilt the geocoding tool as well. Anyone with a littel insight into other aspects I can review, maybe a way to dig deeper into this error as it's pretty bland as is. Is there a way to more closely monitor the append function to see what the real error is? The sites table we are appending to is on a SQL server 2008 r2 instance. In both prod and beta. Screen shots can be posted if needed. Thank you.
