I would like to configure my Javascript webmap in the web map viewer and then download EVERYTHING and host exclusively on our enterprise ArcGIS Web Server. The ONLY thing that the WebMap Viewer seems to do is create an ArcGIS Online webmap and then 'reference' it via my locally stored files?! SURELY ESRI doesn't expect it's customers to rely exclusively on THEIR hosting of the software? I mean after spending the hundreds of thousands of dollars that some companies do to purchase and run ESRI product, and then to be told that we can create but not host our own Javascript maps created with this Viewer application is kinda insulting, to say the least. ESRI gave us the FlexViewer and we hosted ALL files for those maps. Why is ESRI treating Javascript (of all things) as some kind of proprietary system?! I would like to create a Javascript map, without having to start-from-scratch and build the entire library of code necessary to mimic the WebMap Viewer maps, and then host EVERY PART OF MY MAP on my own server. Am I missing something here?

Never mind. Turns out it was a .NET issue. Fixed and corrected.

I'm working with custom built Javascript maps made by an ESRI contract YEARS AGO... I inherited them (lucky me). Now they are throwing errors and I get to figure out why, yay! We did an upgrade to 10.2 from 10.1 and suddenly our Test and Dev environments crashed. Our production is fine. The weird thing is... the Dev environment was upgraded from 10.1 to 10.2 but the Test and Prod were not. Test and Dev no longer work but Prod does. We moved some databases from Oracle to SQL so I'm assuming that might be part of the problem but I can't figure out what to do at this point?! I started by getting an error, a javascript alert that said: xml [objectError] So I broke it down until I could READ the error... I used the following code:
function objToString (obj) {
var str = '';
for (var p in obj) {
if (obj.hasOwnProperty(p)) {
str += p + '::' + obj
+ '\n';
}
}
return str;
}
I passed the [object Error] to this function and got a MASSIVE error screen. The web apps this error is happening are legacy and critical. They were also written by keyboard monkeys. The dojo references are:
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://serverapi.arcgisonline.com/jsapi/arcgis/3.0/js/dojo/dijit/themes/claro/claro.css" />
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://serverapi.arcgisonline.com/jsapi/arcgis/3.0/js/dojo/dojox/grid/resources/tundraGrid.css" />

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://serverapi.arcgisonline.com/jsapi/arcgis/3.0/js/dojo/dojox/layout/resources/ResizeHandle.css" />
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://serverapi.arcgisonline.com/jsapi/arcgis/3.0/js/dojo/dojox/layout/resources/ExpandoPane.css" />
I'm lost... does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you kindly! That is exactly what I needed. You make some great widgets sir... I'll be so happy when I have a chance to switch my maps over to Javascript, the re-learning curve on the new Flex environment is too steep for my available time. Ugh!

I'm tasked with updating a series of maps (from version 2.x to 3.6) and I've hit a weird snag. One of the maps is using a widget that I can't find anywhere. I can't even seem to find anything that mimics the functionality. Here is a screenshot... [ATTACH=CONFIG]34947[/ATTACH] The widget is in a folder titled LocateMulti, it uses an XML/Config file identical to the Locate Widget. Does anyone have information that might help me solve this issue?

I thought that you could use the Web Adaptor to restrict backwards breadcrumbing to Rest Services. But I can't find anything breaking down this process. Is there a tutorial or a guide for this? We have the web adaptor setup on a 10.1 server and would like to consider a 10.2 server as well. However, we have several internal maps with proprietary data that we don't want shared and with the rest services it doesn't take a genius to get the URL and backtrack to the treasure trove. How can we stop this for select services?

Hi all, I am new to ArcGIS for Local Government and we are trying to implement Park and Recreation Finder. I have some basic questions to ask. Welcome! This forum has some great information but getting anyone to discuss the schema seems to be the one thing I can't get (at least not on MY threads!). 2. Do I have to have the exact same schema as Local Government Information Model??s? And same data structure (e.g. field name, data type, etc.) for every feature class as well? - Yichi Yichi, I would love to declaratively state that YES or NO you do or do not have to have the exact same schema. But alas, I can't get anyone to give me a straight answer. What I will tell you is what I BELIEVE to be the correct answer, and I'll hope that someone that knows will take a moment and correct me if I'm wrong or agree with me if I'm right. I posted the following: CLICK FOR LINK That sums up my thoughts on the schema. I will wait and see if anyone corrects me or not, but that is the direction I am heading. I've been holding off on development while waiting for this answer on different posts on and off for quite awhile to no avail. So I'm moving forward with the assumption that the details from my other post are correct. Have a great day and don't get discouraged if you don't get a single other answer on this post. This forum does not SEEM to like to respond to schema questions like this. Peace, Love and Mapping

I work for Local City Government and we get our Counties Parcel Data in Shapefile format. After reviewing the LGIM I believe we are going to try to shift gears and begin to build our GIS foundation on top of it but only if we can figure out how to get our current data sources INTO the LGIM. I've read the 'Getting started with ArcGIS for Local Government' and I still have more questions than answers. I have our Counties parcel data (currently) in SDE and also in the Shapefiles we get directly from them. We have generated the LGIM from the XML in our SDE as well. Step 4 of the 'Getting started with ArcGIS for Local Government' states (quite simplistically) to "Load your data into the Local Government geodatabase" without discussing field names, aliases, etc. I realise that Step 3 says to "configure the model to meet your specific needs" but it doesn't give an example. Am I correct in assuming the following hypothetical situation? LGIM has fields A, B, C, and D. MyData has fields W, X, Y, and Z. When we compare the two datasets we find that A = X, B = Y and C = Z. When we compare the two datasets we find that LGIM has D but we don't have an equivalent. When we compare the two datasets we find that MyData has W but the LGIM doesn't have an equivalent. So... in our Model Builder we set up a Truncate and Append. We truncate out the live data in SDE. We append our Shapefile from the County INTO the (now truncated) SDE. In our Append we: 1) match A > X, B > Y, C > Z 2) we leave D blank because we don't have one (but we DON'T remove it from LGIM) 3) we CREATE a field for W in the LGIM If this is correct then I'll be starting the process as soon as I get this verified. If this is incorrect... where can I go for more assistance?

I'm having the same problems and I cannot, for the life of me, get the script to run. I created the script in ModelBuilder and it works fine. I port it to Python and it works fine. But Task Scheduler will not run it... not on a schedule and not by clicking the task and hitting RUN.

If you aren't maintaining the parcel boundaries from deeds and plats, I don't think the parcel fabric will benefit you. You can still use the LGIM and load your data into the ParcelPublishing dataset. That will get you the benefits of the LGIM and it's associated applications without the overhead of maintaining the parcel fabric. A truncate and append might still be the best method, but you probably want to create some kind of automated process or tool to reduce error. Good luck. Tom Thank you! So it would seem that a scripted process that truncates and appends my cities parcels will be the way to go. My next question is concerning the fact that I my city comprises several surrounding counties. For instance, I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The City boundaries go outside of the Tulsa County boundaries. So I have multiple Counties parcels for my city. I'm "assuming" that I'll just need to set up an addition "append" process for those outside counties to import their parcels correctly on top of the Tulsa County parcels (which are the most complete and up-to-date parcels out of them all). Does this seem right?

however if Adobe is going to retire the SWF, then that would change everything. Yeah, I'm a Creative Cloud (for Students) subscriber and so I get TONS of Adobe email. I've downloaded and installed EVERYTHING my subscription gets me, even if I'll never actively use it. Just to browse around and see all the magic! Anyway, I don't remember where I've read it but it was something about retiring the SWF and moving to HTML5 without losing Actionscript or the IDE. I imagine we'd get a translator system converting ActionScript to HTML5 or something in between, maybe an Adobe Javascript library or something? I don't know. But when you can find examples of HTML5 that 'seem' to blow any SWF action (that I've seen) out of the water, it makes sense. Adobe can NOT afford to drop behind the curve on web dev. As far as ESRI is concerned tho, I just hope they can stay relevant in the web world without forcing everyone to 'go cloud or die' like it 'feels' like they are doing now. Those of us working with 'somewhat' sensitive data can't afford to 'go cloud' through someone else, regardless of their qualifications. We have to be able to host, control, and serve our data as WE see fit, not as Company X's cloud program offers... Again, exciting either way!

I've asked a few questions about this Local Government Data Model and I'm not getting any answers. I've got a full plate and am working on quarterly work but I really want to shift gears and get our GIS foundation built on what looks like a great model. So, in the interest of try and try again, here is a new question. We are a City Government where County Government is the entity that manages Parcel data. So we get a copy but we do not manage this data. We get updates, and up till now we just truncate-n-append to update the parcels. We would LIKE to use the Local Government Data Model for this, we've imported the empty model into SDE and we've dug around and found multiple locations for parcel data, but nothing that looks like we could import our parcel data to? Can someone give me a few tips? Ideas? Anything? Are we using a Parcel Fabric? What happens to the fabric when we get an updated dataset from County with new parcels... new parcel ID's... new boundaries... etc?

My GIS co-worker and I are very interested in the Local Government Data Model, especially the Addressing section. We are putting a GIS foundation in place and would like to do it right. We have downloaded the Data Model and X-Ray and created the GeoDatabase. But we work in an SDE setup and would prefer to just port it over to SDE and keep on moving. However, I thought I remembered seeing that you had to keep it in GDB format for some reason or the other. Can anyone let me know if the Local Government Data Model can be converted to SDE and used correctly from there?
