I am not sure if this was addressed or not but have you installed the Oracle 11g client? Oracle Database 11g Release 2 for Microsoft Windows (x64)

That's true about the tons of samples. I have seen lots. I feel like I really want to understand it all and want to be able to know how to create something from scratch (though I will likely always start with some existing stuff and modify it).

I do not think that you can change the size of these thumbnails in Esri's out-of-the-box galleries. You will likely have to custom create your own landing page to make a gallery of maps/apps in order to make the thumbnails different. Though, I could be wrong...

Have you tried using an external hosting site like Flickr.com? I feel a little more comfortable with those since I know that my pictures will be there and Flickr has 1 Terabyte of free space for you to use as well. They may even be faster to load vs. esri's site. Though, I have not tested performances between the two.

These seems like a good approach. I have played around a little with the "build your first app" page you listed. I wonder if I can get my organization to buy that book... Does the book have a lot of coding sections or is it mostly Web Maps in general?

I have seen various websites that have free instructional courses to help teach you how to code. And is there one that would be best to integrate into GIS, particularly ArcGIS API for JavaScript? Or maybe there is something I am completely missing in my minimal search on how to teach myself coding…

Hi Scott! I am not sure if this helps or not but have you tried Dynamic Segmentation? This may be a way for your line to be broken up yet still be continuous, and allow for individual attributes like you need. Dynamic segmentation—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop Also, for me I think it helps when you just copy and paste a screen shot into the forum post so that it's just there to be looked at instead of downloaded (or post a link to a photo). And, it might help to move your post out of the GeoNet Help and into a more specified place (like GIS Places or so).
