Wow, the rabbit hole certainly gets deeper! I really appreciate the advice. I have a feeling that my company will have a hard time justifying these types of purchases but it's good to know what likely needs to be done. Does everyone have an EDN license who manages ArcGIS for Server? I wonder if I should call my local esri person to get an idea on how to best manager what we currently have and what we 'should' have.

It does not look like it is possible to do this with ArcGIS Online web maps. You would have to configure this on the publishing end in ArcMap to concatenate your values or some other creative way of squeezing multiple attributes into one field. Your options for symbolizing in ArcGIS Online are: 1 text field 1 text field and 1 numeric field 1 to 5 numeric fields

I have never been on the back end of setting up a server for the first time and now I find myself working for a small company that is just getting its feet wet with GIS. The issue is, I am not sure where to start and not sure if I should consult the GeoNet or my local Esri rep. There seems to be so many options out there and I want to make sure I get things setup right initially. We do not have a real dedicated server machine in our building so we are looking at options on this (like do we outsource and use something like Amazon web services, do we dedicate a local machine in-house, etc.). My company has a standard ArcGIS Server Workgroup license (with two cores, whatever that means). We will be wanting to host data on our ArcGIS Online site and will want to be able to update that data regularly. We will also want some secure services and things like that (and we are in the US). We do not have a back-end relational database but I believe we are working towards getting one on PostgreSQL, from what I understand. Our website has a MySQL component that could work, I suppose, but then again, I am unfamiliar with configuring these types of relational databases (though, I would love to learn). Ok GeoNet, the question is, where is the best place for me to start? How should I best approach this to get the most value and functionality? Are options like ArcGIS for Portal or an SDE likely possibilities for me? Thanks!

When I clicked the download button, it started to download the package. It was around 500+ Megabytes and I did not need it so I stopped the download. But it appeared to work! I am not sure why it isn't working for you. I am using Google Chrome as my web browser.

There may be a button in the settings for "Synchronize Map Locations". (though I know this is available for the 'tabbed map', not sure about the map journal). I would refer to Owen Evans

If you are wanting to export your excel sheet to a geodatabase, you do not add an extension. In the geodatabase, it knows that it is a table so no extension is necessary.

Can you give more details on how you were publishing this service? Also, did you click on the Analyze button before publishing the service to see about any errors prior to publishing?

wow, that's tricky. I guess the Table to Excel toolset came out in 10.2 maybe? Those links above make it sound plausible, but still, it might be somewhat of a pain if they don't work. You could try just copying and pasting the attribute table which may be faster in some cases. Export attribute tables from ArcGIS to Excel. – GeoPlanIT

I agree with Chris! And why not a GeoNet dedicated museum for the Balboa Park thing! In reality, is Esri having a hard time promoting the GeoNet? Or are people getting the hang of where to ask questions? Could there be a way to help showcase the GeoNet more in order for it to get more usage? I recall one year where Esri personnel wore some extra "flair" around their nametag that said something like "ask me about cloud services" or so. Maybe there can be something similiar like "Did you ask your question on GeoNet first?"

I'm guessing you are wanting to display the data from your excel table onto your map? If so, right click on it in the table of contents and choose Display XY Data: And follow the prompts. Or this document explains how to add your XY data another way: Adding x,y coordinate data as a layer—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop

It looks like you cannot publish a standalone table and there is a standalone table in your table of contents. To see your full list of objects in your TOC, click on the List by Source icon . Here you can see your table and can remove them so that you can publish successfully. Are you wanting to generate features from an XY column in your excel sheet?

Maybe there are some ArcGIS Portal Wizards on the boards right now that can chime in? Does the documentation for 10.3 or 10.4 not apply to 10.2.2?
