Hi, Are you copying over every file extension that makes up the shapefile? You will want to bring over the entire folder to your machine for viewing in ArcMap, not just the .shp file extension component. Matt

Hi Mark, The issue was on my end. Give this one a try. Once you download and extract the toolbox, you'll want to browse to the script tool in ArcCatalog, right-click it, go to the Source tab, and path to the .py file that is located in this attached folder. After that, it should be good to go. Let me know if the issue arises again! Matt

Jose, Are your centroids just another layer in the map? You could do a select by location to select all polygons that have a centroid using the intersect method. If the process is more complex than this, please let us know. Matt

No problem, Nina, anytime. You can find a lot of great examples of syntax for geoprocessing tools and arcpy functions from within our Resource Center. Here are just a couple examples but you can use the search box to find much, much more: arcpy.mapping.ListLayers http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//00s30000002n000000 arcpy.mapping.MapDocument http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//00s30000000n000000 I suggest to start with these two introduction pages below then use the navigational tree on the left side in both links to branch out into further topics: What is Python? http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/What_is_Python/002z00000001000000/ What is ArcPy? http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/What_is_ArcPy/000v000000v7000000/ Matt

Furthermore, the looping process with Python will be unique to your specific purpose. In full, here is the example including a looping process that loops through and prints each layer: >>> from arcpy import env >>> mxd = arcpy.mapping.MapDocument("CURRENT") >>> layers = arcpy.mapping.ListLayers(mxd) >>> print layers [<map layer u'CP_Test'>, <map layer u'points'>, <map layer u'polys'>, <map layer u'testlines'>, <map layer u'points'>, <map layer u'Arizona_Cities'>, <map layer u'Arizona_Cities'>] >>> for lyr in layers: ... print lyr ... CP_Test points polys testlines points Arizona_Cities Arizona_Cities Matt

Nina, You can not loop through layers in the TOC of ArcMap using Model Builder because it would not have access to the data frame object as Model Builder was not designed for advanced processes. This would need to be done using scripting. A quick, simple example going through the Python window of ArcPad would be: >>> from arcpy import env >>> mxd = arcpy.mapping.MapDocument("CURRENT") >>> layers = arcpy.mapping.ListLayers(mxd) >>> print layers [<map layer u'CP_Test'>, <map layer u'points'>, <map layer u'polys'>, <map layer u'testlines'>, <map layer u'points'>, <map layer u'Arizona_Cities'>, <map layer u'Arizona_Cities'>] Matt

My guess is that the layers of the application have just changed. That would occur on the publisher/creator side, which is not in our control. There are scale ranges set on some of the layers, but zooming way in or out does not make any streets or highway layers show up. Sounds like they were just removed from the application. Matt

Hi David, I believe the Spatial Join tool should be able to accomplish this task for you. It will depend on how you want this information output to you, however. Matt

Hi Nina, When you mention looping though layers, are you referring to layers in the table of contents of ArcMap or features within a geodatabase or shapefiles within a folder? If you are referring to layers in the table of contents, are these layers in the same workspace or do they come from different workspaces? Matt

Hi, When I open this map I do not see any layers contained that give any descriptions of 'streets' or 'highways'. My guess would be that it has been updated and they do not exist as layers anymore. Did you create this application or did someone else? I suggest to consult with the creator of this application for details on the disappearance of those specific layers, but to me it looks like they are just not included anymore as everything else within the map seems to be working fine! Hi Mark, I believe the issue you are facing in Model Builder is that the iterator will iterate each process within the model, thus, creating the new file geodatabase during each iteration. Try using this Script Tool I made that was created using Python. Matt

Cary, I was actually able to get this to run successfully. Please see my attached three screenshots. Make sure your parameters and folder structure match up. The file is by itself inside a folder that resides directly on my desktop. Matt
