"Premium Content" in ArcGIS Online is one of the great benefits of using ArcGIS Online. It is found in the Living Atlas, which means it is curated, set up to work well, with good metadata, and in some cases it's VERY up-to-date. How do I know if layer is "premium content"? The best way to tell is to look for for the indicator when adding data from the Living Atlas. It works whether you are adding data through the "Add/Browse Living Atlas Layers" choice as in the graphic above or going through the "SearchForLayers/ In:LivingAtlasLayers" in the graphic to the right. Just look for the "Premium Content" indicator. You can use it, and share your map with people inside your Org, and it's no big deal -- it just works. But sharing a map outside your Org can be a challenge if the map contains premium content. You CAN share the map ... it just needs to be done via an app. You just need to turn your "construction zone map" into a "finished product app." See the helpfile guidance here. This is especially important to consider if you KNOW that people outside your Org will be looking at your creation, such as in a competition, like the ArcGIS Online Competition for US High Schools and Middle Schools. Feel free to use Premium Content if you are creating a story map or other web app.

I had a hiccup logging in yesterday while running Firefox. It was the very same message you were getting under Chrome. I opened up Chrome and logged in successfully without issue. Going back later, I realized that there was another tab that was logged into something in ArcGIS Online. The challenge that we run into often is that browsers are very good about passing credentials ... sometimes too good ... and if you tend not to completely kill a browser or reboot a machine or blow the cache, or "rip" tabs into their own windows and/or "merge" windows into a single window with multiple tabs, it's hard to know exactly what is communicating with what. My hunch for your original question, Lori, is that there was confusion in Chrome because of login conflicts either in an active tab or errant cache. For those of us who live with multiple logins, it's important to minimize the chances for login conflict.

PREAMBLE Terrific resources abound for helping educators learn the fundamentals of ArcGIS Online and teaching with it. Similar to how amusement parks indicate "You must be this tall to get on this ride," T3G in the future will depend on educators building, on their own, the skills for using and teaching with GIS. T3G itself will focus on "the third leg of the stool" -- helping education leaders share these powers with other educators more effectively. T3G has over 450 alums. "T3G 2017" marks Esri's next step in ramping up GIS education. T3G alums have been pioneers in many areas, and this watershed event is a critical pilot for Esri. Because of ConnectED, T3G2017 will focus just on K12 education, and be available only to T3G alums anxious to provide more effective training to K12 educators. Anyone hoping to "audit" while doing email, grading papers, or barbecuing will need to wait until recordings are posted. Only "full participants" -- those giving evidence of keen interest in helping K12 educators by having met the prerequisites and submitted a complete application -- will be able to participate live. We want to make this event as powerful as possible for attendees. Esri expects to offer "ConnectED Workshop $upport Grants" for K12 educators again in 2017, and will limit eligibility to those who "participated live" in T3G 2017. (T3G alums facing "special circumstances" constraining participation should check with Charlie. We hope folks will attend as many of those 12 hours as possible, but recognize life happens. We encourage everyone to go thru the application process, whether you can attend 12 hours or 12 minutes of T3G2017, to document/test/build your skills and boost eligibility for a $upport Grant.) T3G 2017 will not be two days of mind-numbing wall watching. Instead, it will feature: two days of 6 hours of content (2hrs, 15min break, 2hrs, 15min break, 2hrs;; 9:00am-3:30pmPDT), Sat April 22 and Sat April 29, 2017 frequent synchronous online interaction, using multiple channels (video+audio, chat, polls, simultaneous response to survey items, etc) large group presentations and discussions simultaneous breakouts and discussions guidance on technology, teaching students, and teaching educators models of instruction for teaching with GIS practice in using GIS intros to recent tools and instructional materials from Esri pointers to key resources for building background and skills recorded sessions ((So only those willing to be recorded should apply.)) EXPECTATIONS UPON COMPLETION: We expect that T3Gers will in the next year do all these: (a) Conduct a hands-on training event for at least 5 educators for at least an hour; (b) Conduct an awareness event for at least a dozen educators for at least 30 minutes; (c) Contribute actively to the T3G network (via GeoNet posts or replies, valuable listserv notes, and/or individual peer support). = = = = = = = = = = PREREQUISITES These items need to be in place at the time of T3G 2017. They should already be standard in the toolkit for T3G alums. Reviewing or filling gaps should take little time for alums who have "kept up," but longer for those with a "pre-2014 mindset." Hoping to breeze through these in a "3-hour cram session in mid-April" won't work. Only those who meet these criteria and complete the application will be ready to go out and help other educators work with the tools of today. TEACHING WITH GIS COURSE: Applicants must have completed the "Teaching with GIS" course on Esri's Online Training site, http://esriurl.com/vcteachingwithgis. This course was required for application to T3G in 2014, 2015, and 2016, so participants who attended only in 2009-2013 need to complete the course and submit the certificate of completion by email to t3g-institute@esri.com before applying. GEONET: Applicants must be a member of the "T3G Alums" group on GeoNet, http://geonet.esri.com/groups/t3g. Log into GeoNet, and then request entry to the group if you are not already a member. Applicant profile must show first and last name, have a recognizable "primary profile photo" (i.e. be recognizable despite scale or obscurity in the primary photo that shows when a user who is logged in to GeoNet clicks a person's name or thumbnail; log in and see examples for Laura, Joseph, and Charlie. The application will have a blank for your GeoNet address. USK12GIS MAP: Applicants must appear in the correct location on Map#5 (T3G map) of http://esriurl.com/usk12gis, with the "GeoNet" link connecting a user directly to your GeoNet profile. (Contact Charlie with issues.) The application will seek your confirmation that the map and link are A-OK. T3G AGO ORG LOGIN: Applicants must be able to log into the T3G Org (http://esrit3g.maps.arcgis.com), where we will conduct activities. T3G 2013-16 all did significant work here; alums from 2009-2012 may need to contact Charlie for a login. The application has a blank for your T3G Org username. PERSONAL/DEVELOPER ACCOUNT LOGIN: Applicants must have and be able to log into your own free "developer account" (https://developers.arcgis.com) or fee-based "personal account" (http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcgis-for-personal-use). Since each provides an Org limited to 1 login, you are the admin for this Org. Make your Org publicly visible (Settings: "Allow anonymous access to your organization"). The application will seek the URL for your Org. AGO MAP VIEWER SKILLS: Applicants must know and be comfortable using and teaching the fundamental concepts and skills of ArcGIS Online Map Viewer: ((If you need guidance, see http://k12.maps.arcgis.com, >> "07.PD", >> "01.GettingStarted")) accessing and using existing online maps, scenes, and apps creating, saving, and sharing maps, scenes, and apps pan/zoom; home; bookmark; find location identify; features and attributes; popup customization swapping basemaps; finding and adding data layers layers on/off; scale-dependent visibility; layer sequence; layer transparency table access; table sorting; table column hide/show data classification and symbolization feature selection/query/filter finding, viewing, and creating metadata for layers, maps, apps, and personal profiles. AGO PLATFORM CONCEPTS: Applicants must be familiar with and be able to talk about the general idea of Esri's technology platform: Esri provides tools and methods for exploring and analyzing data geographically (http://www.esri.com/about-esri) ArcGIS Online is a framework for integrating tools, data, and people (http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis) ArcGIS Online "named user" accounts provide access to specific tools and contents to a specific user across devices (computer, tablet, smartphone) ArcGIS Online Organizations provide a space for working with more tools, apps, and data, and collaborating with customizable communities, sized 1-n. ONLINE CHECK: T3G 2017 will use Zoom. Invitees will need to check in online with the staff during one of the check-in windows in the ~2 weeks before the event to confirm videoconference capacity. = = = = = = = = = = T3G 2017 APPLICATION HAS 3 PARTS TO BE COMPLETED BY MON MARCH 6 2017, 5pmPT Part One: required only if you did not attend T3G 2014/2015/2016: Send email to "t3g-institute@esri.com" attaching certificate of completion for "Teaching With GIS" online course http://esriurl.com/vcteachingwithgis. Part Two: Use ArcGIS Online to prepare a "finished product." (Show us your grasp of the fundamentals by creating a map, converting it into a presentation, web app, or story map, and share that finished product with the T3G Org, and adding the URL to the proper blank in the application form. Use your T3G Org login to prep the map and convert into a presentation, web app, or story map. Save your creation with title "T3G2017 Application <Fname Lname>" Give your creation a tag of "T3G2017app" (all one word) On your creation, use a Map Note showing your current work location, with institution, street address, city, state, zip, and website inside the note. (If no current work address, use current home address.) See http://esriurl.com/funwithgis206. (This is a very carefully scripted activity, with a lot of steps that will take longer to read carefully than to do.) On your creation, add "Roundmile" data for your Map Note from Step#4 above. Do just Phase1+2 of the Roundmile process, thru Step 18. (Do Phase1 steps 1-16 to create the special enriched circle; then catalogue the data as noted in Phase2 steps 17-18.) Do not do Roundmile Phase3 for your T3G map, just make sure that your T3G creation has your special circle, and that it was catalogued as described in Phase2. Create a table (so it can be classified and appear in a legend) for up to 5 of your most powerful "teacher training events" in which you presented or plan to present GIS to educators since you first attended T3G. The table should include these capitalized items: LAT, LONG, EVENTNAME, YYYYMM (6-digit date), PARTICIPANTS (number of audience participants to whom you presented), and QUICKCOMMENT (max of 5 words). Add the table to your creation, with the layer classified by PARTICIPANTS. Be sure you have turned your map into a presentation, web app, or story map. Share the finished product with the T3G Org, and use the URL in your application form. Part Three: Fill out the online application form https://goo.gl/6iCkcl Your name Your email Your phone Year(s) you participated in T3G Content area you deal with in your job ___ Age group you deal with in your job ___ Your job description ____ (<10 words) Institution Name Institution City Institution State/Prov Institution Country Institution ZIP/Postal Code The time zone from which you will participate T3G Org login Confirmation that T3G Map (#5 of http://esriurl.com/usk12gis) has proper location and personal GeoNet link Personal/Developer Org URL (i.e. http://____.maps.arcgis.com) Address of AGO finished product (shared with T3G Org) submitted: http://____ Confirmation of Teaching With GIS course certificate = = = = = = = = = = END = = = = = = = = = =

It will be interesting to hear if others are having this problem. I have not been, and have not heard of others with this issue. (Are you on Mac or Win?) However, I reboot daily and regularly (~week or so) blow out my browser caches, and sometimes even "uninstall-reboot-reinstall-reboot-test" software (not just for Esri software). Hardware, OSs, and software packages are sufficiently complex and interwoven that it is sometimes useful to engage these more dramatic "readjustments." With Chrome, there is a shortcut capacity to "revert to freshly installed state," which is an intermediate step before the full deletion and reinstall ((Chrome/Settings/Advanced/All the way down to "Reset").

T3G 2017 will be different! We're going online, which means new opportunities. Sat April 22 + Sat April 29, 2017; both days 9:00-12:00 + 12:30-3:30 pm PDT (= 0600-1230HST =1200-1830EDT) Online only, using the ZOOM platform, plus GeoNet, plus various Esri apps engaging ArcGIS Online, and other tools For T3G alums only; as we bring T3G to online operation for all, we need you to help us calibrate things; but we may need to limit it to 100 ... yikes. Required for someone who wants an "Esri ConnectED Workshop $upport grant" in 2017 HIGHLY interactive, with big group presentations, small group discussions, hands-on experience, Q&A, special help, special networking time with folks in your region and in your specialty community, and more An opportunity to see new tools and materials, and hear about some big changes in both K12 ed and higher ed Cool! How do I sign up? Step#1: Respond by Jan 9, 2017, to the T3G2017 interest survey, either in a browser or using the Survey123 app. ((Really? Wild! How does that work? Come to T3G2017 to find out, or get busy reading the Survey123 blog!) Survey123 browser link = https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/0829bcd8315f40a4bcecf89c7d655c28 Survey123 mobile app link = arcgis-survey123://?itemID=0829bcd8315f40a4bcecf89c7d655c28 Step#2: See the full application requirements. Coming soon, but essentially... Certificate of Completion for Esri training course "Teaching with GIS" (needed only from T3G 2009-2013 alums, since it was required just to apply to T3G in 2014-15-16) You can log into the T3G Org (http://esrit3g.maps.arcgis.com); contact Charlie if you can't log in Your GeoNet login is up to date -- member of T3G group, profile shows first and last name, profile has a recognizable photo of you (not an avatar) as the default (you can have multiple pics!), description includes "T3G" somewhere Your locator dot in the public T3G map (http://esriurl.com/usk12gis, Map#5) is in a reasonably correct location and has the correct active link for your GeoNet profile You have established either your own personal free "Developer account" or your own fee-based "Personal Account" and set up its home page, and can log into it You have studied two critical docs accessible from http://k12.maps.arcgis.com, >> "01.InstructionDocs", which are "#03 AGO Use Strategies" and "#06.AGO Orgs for Schools" You have produced a very modest story map that meets a few specific criteria, to be announced by Jan 14 2017, but including whether you expect to seek a ConnectED Workshop $upport grant from Esri in 2017. Step#3: Prepare for T3G 2017 We will use Zoom (http://zoom.us), which is really powerful and easy but takes a little getting used to. We will have NO TIME DURING T3G for anyone to spend learning the interface. People must know how to use it. So we will have some sessions in advance during which participants will need to log in and check that you can see us and talk to us, and we can see you and talk to you. Actions: Cycle participant window style, access chat, send/receive messages, raise your hand, mute/unmute, turn video on/off, maximize/unmaximize the window. Ensure you have the best situation possible for online learning -- high-speed internet (hard wired is best; robust wifi is doable); headset or speakers+microphone required; second monitor if possible, two up-to-date browsers (Chrome and Firefox; Safari OK; stay away from IE and Edge if possible; Chromebook users should get familiar with incognito mode since you may not have another browser) You know your various logins or have them written down and can swap in/out in a flash, for T3G AGO Org, work Org, personal Org, GeoNet. You have as much experience as possible with ArcGIS Online, the ArcGIS platform concept, the Esri ConnectED story, the Esri website We look forward to seeing you online!

Across the U.S., high school and middle school students are exploring their world and creating interesting map products with ArcGIS Online. Esri now challenges students to create and share maps about something in their home states, working to be among the best in the school, state, and nation. The ArcGIS Online US School Competition 2017 is open to high school (gr.9-12) and middle school (gr.4-8) students in the U.S who can analyze, interpret, and present data via an ArcGIS Online presentation, web app, or story map. In 2016, Minnesota conducted a state-focused competition, and Arkansas followed suit. Now, Esri offers to all states the chance to participate, with grants to states supporting ten equal prizes of $100 for the five best high school and five best middle school projects in the state. Schools can submit up to five projects to the state, and participating states submit to Esri the ten awardees (5-HS and 5-MS), with one project each at high school and middle school tagged for a final level of competition. One high school project and one middle school project will earn a trip to the 2017 Esri Education Conference in San Diego, CA. Esri seeks state teams to conduct each state's competition (limit of one team per state). Minnesota managed it with just a handful of educators (fans of GIS in education from school, college, and the state) to set up and operate it, and a handful of GIS professionals to do the judging. Team leaders can apply using this form ((with the competition now over, the form has been unlinked)). (Contact Charlie Fitzpatrick [below] if your state is making progress but needs more time. Collaboration, commitment, and proven experience working across the state is required.) The US K12 GIS story map has key resources, including (in map#2) full 2017 results, visible also here. (Use navigation tools, and click on states and point features.)
Contest Details: Eligibility: Entrants must be pre-collegiate students registered in grades 4-12, from public schools or non-public schools including home schools, under age 19, who have not yet received a high school diploma or equivalent. Students can work singly or in teams of two, but can participate in only one entry. Teams with one student in middle school (gr.4-8) and one in high school (gr.9-12) must be considered as high school. Entries must come from a recognized school or home school, even if the entrants are working on the entry in an out-of-school club. Any school or home school program can submit to the state a maximum of five (5) entries total, counting the sum of middle school and high school entries. Entries: Entry forms (student/s to school, school to state, state to Esri) will be made available to state leads in January 2017 Entries must be from an ArcGIS Online Organization account. Any US K12 school (including public, non-public, or home school) can request from http://www.esri.com/connected#school an ArcGIS Online Organization account for instruction for free. Entries must be an ArcGIS Online "presentation" or "web app" or "story map". Entries must focus on content within the state borders. States may choose to further refine the focus, but the geographic scope of the project must be within the state. The project may reference data outside the state "for context," but may not extend the focus of the study beyond the state borders. For example, broader patterns of environmental characteristics or demographic movements may be referenced for context, but the focus must be on phenomena within the state. Schools must announce their own internal deadlines, in time to complete judging and provide information to the state by its deadline. States must announce their in-state deadlines, but can be no later than 5pm Pacific Time on Fri May 19, 2017. States must submit data to Esri no later than 5pm Pacific Time on Fri May 26, 2017. Awards Esri will announce its awards decision by 5pm Pacific Time on Mon June 5, 2017 Esri will provide a travel grant to one high school team and one middle school team, each team consisting of the student(s) and at least one parent/guardian (could be teacher/rep). Awardee teams must agree to attend the Esri Education GIS Conference ("EdUC"), arriving by 10amPT Sat July 8, and staying through at least 4pmPT Tue July 11, 2017. Awardees will be responsible for handling any tax implications, be personally identified including name and photograph, and post a graphic in the Esri User Conference ("UC") Map Gallery on Mon. Awardees will be recognized at EdUC on Sat and UC Map Gallery on Mon, and likely have additional attention. Design/Judging Criteria Entries should be analytical in nature, map-centric rather than photo-centric. Entries must be visible without requiring a login. Entries engaging "premium data" (login required, such as Living Atlas) must set up the display to permit access without needing a login. See helpful note. Entries must be "original work by students," but may use data generated by outside persons or institutions, within guidelines of "fair use." (Students are encouraged to use appropriate professionally generated data, but the integration, treatment, and presentation must be original.) Entries must provide two links in "short URL" format (e.g. http://arcg.is/1A2b3xyz), one linking to the item details page and one linking to the display page. (Users can create a short URL in "arcg.is" format at http://bit.ly. Esri created a relationship with bit.ly so that any URL string that has [anything].arcgis.com/[anything] will be turned into a short URL formatted as "arcg.is/[shortstuff]".) National scoring rubric. The state can vary this, and even create slightly different rubrics for HS and MS, but must apply the same rubric to all entries in a single grade band, and the rubric must be clarified for the schools at the start. The national competition will use this rubric (100 points): (5) topic is clearly identified, meets state's criteria, focuses on content within state borders (10) overall presentation within the "map product" is effective in informing about topic (20) cartography is effective, facilitating the viewer's grasp of individual elements of the topic and story (20) data used is appropriate -- engages an adequate volume and array of clearly significant elements, does not exclude clearly significant elements, does not include irrelevant elements; 5 of "total data points possible" are to be reserved for rewarding the creation, documentation, and inclusion of one's own data [0=none, 1=little/weak, 2=some/modest, 3=satisfactory, 4=much/good, 5=most/excellent] (20) geographic analysis is evident, appropriate, effective (classification, symbolization, filtering, geoanalysis); the "map product" is not "simply uniform dots/lines/areas on a map" nor "simply pictures" (25) documentation in the item details page is clear and complete; all non-original contents (including images) in the presentation/ web app/ story map are appropriately referenced and/or linked so their sources are clear, and original contents are described and/or linked; documentation identifies processes used to analyze the content, plus any persons who assisted in project (including specifying if no one did) Personally Identifiable Information (PII) Schools should consider issues around exposing PII. See http://esri.box.com/agoorgsforschools for strategies for minimizing PII. Teachers should help students minimize exposure of their own PII and that of others, including in map, image, and text. States must help potential entrants understand the level of PII required. Entries submitted to Esri for the top national prize (i.e. 1-HS and 1-MS) must agree in advance to expose student names, school names, and school city/state (homeschool students would be identified to closest city/town name). Esri will not seek, collect, or accept student names for any entrants other than the national prize entrants (1-HS and 1-MS per state). These and only these will have names exposed by Esri. QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS: Email Charlie Fitzpatrick, Esri K12 Education Manager, cfitzpatrick@esri.com Shortcut to this page: http://esriurl.com/agoschoolcomp2017

Hi Brandi, I was able to view the map, open the table, see the 6 features with large amounts of info in the attribute table, go to the layer and configure the popup but the nature of the attributes are, I think, causing a little issue. When I went to configure the popup, I saw a little counter showing which fields are being displayed, and it was set to 0. When I changed that, and changed the title to show the country, and configure the popup so show manually, I could see the content. I think it is expecting a modest amount of text in each cell, and there are some cells with quite a lot, including commas, which may make it have a little trouble. But I was able to get a display even while just on my iPad. Look for a counter (spinner) in the left column of the configure popup zone.
