Topic: Take Your Python Skills to the Next Level with Esri's Advanced Guide to Python in ArcGIS Topic: Take Your Python Skills to the Next Level with Esri's Advanced Guide to Python in ArcGIS Description: Trying to learn Python can seem like an insurmountable task. So many of us live in the space between being a GIS professional and a Python developer and at times the impostor syndrome can be very real. There are so many paths you can take in the Python world even if your primary interest is geospatial data. You could go head-first into analytical and data-centric work or you could get into building interactive user interfaces or so many other things. Esri's Advanced Guide to Python in ArcGIS can be a helpful tool in your learning, as it provides a wide variety of use cases with real world applications. Join us in a discussion about the book's contents and an overview of the many applications of Python in the ArcGIS environment. Presenter: Dave Crawford – Sr Technical Consultant and Python Developer with Esri Professional Services team Date: Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at 9:00 AM (PT) / 12:00 PM (ET) Register for the chat >>

Welcome to the fourth installment of the blog series on ArcGIS Solutions for Smart Campus Operations. The three two blog posts published in the series were: ArcGIS Solutions: University Grounds and Maintenance ArcGIS Solutions for University Campuses and Facilities ArcGIS Solutions for Managing Utilities In this post, I will focus specifically on ArcGIS Solutions commonly used to manage and improve campus safety at universities. As a reminder, ArcGIS Solutions offers a powerful set of tools designed specifically for your industry, helping you meet your organization’s unique needs. By tapping into your trusted data, these solutions can streamline operations, uncover insights, and boost the value of your location-based tech. Now, let’s focus on the types of ArcGIS solutions leveraged by universities when it comes to managing a safer campus. Below are direct links to the solutions, feel free to click into any of them to get more information. Special Event Operations Special events are nonroutine activities within a community that bring together a large number of people. They drive economic development and are vital to quality of life but also place strain on community resources and often require special permits, planning, preparation, and mitigation of increased safety and security risks. The Special Event Operations solution delivers a set of capabilities that help public safety agencies inventory special events, create operational maps, monitor event operations, and share event maps with the public. GIS Request Management GIS Request Management can be used to manage the delivery of GIS services and communicate the value of the GIS program to the organization. The GIS Request Management solution delivers a set of capabilities that help you solicit requests for service, manage the delivery of GIS services, and promote the value of GIS to internal stakeholders. AED Inventory An AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias and is able to treat them through defibrillation. Defibrillators are typically found in office buildings, airports, educational facilities, and other locations where people congregate. Proactively managing and communicating AED information helps dispatchers inform first responders when a cardiac emergency occurs. AED Inventory is typically implemented by public safety agencies that want to have a single catalog of AEDs and share this information with internal stakeholders and the public. The AED Inventory solution delivers a set of capabilities that help you inventory AEDs, share authoritative AEDs with computer aided dispatch systems or consumer applications, and inform the public. Know Your Zone The frequency and intensity of emergencies has increased and so has the impact on communities. As a result, pre-established evacuation zones and protective actions such as evacuating, sheltering in place have become more important to emergency management operations. Know Your Zone can be used to share evacuation zone information established to help residents evacuate when an emergency or incident occurs. The Know Your Zone solution delivers a set of capabilities that help emergency management agencies share essential evacuation zone information with residents. I encourage you to browse through the ArcGIS Solutions gallery and filter by 'Facilities,' or 'Public Safety,' or 'Utilities' to uncover more tailored solutions that can enhance your campus management efforts. Refer to the ArcGIS Blog to learn about the new solutions and enhancements to the existing solution portfolio that can be leveraged by organizations of all types.
