Thanks for your feedback @Amanda__Huber , The Hub team is actively working on an alternative in the form of a new search view that will display a gallery (with thumbnails) of dynamic results. This is a layout enhancement to the current search view found at <siteURL>/search. Using the Category card, site managers will be able to link to the new search view and apply a category, tag, or group filter. Stay tuned to the Esri blog for a release within the next few months. Ideally this will alleviate the concern around the item limit even though it will require users navigate to a search page. Regarding your specific request, we understand that it is not desirable to embed other tools or find alternative ways to show more than 16 results. I can take this feedback to our team and consider if we increase this limit. For context, in the past we've found that a large gallery (more than 16 results) reduces usability and detracts from other elements on a page especially if an end user is viewing a Hub site on mobile. What is a desirable number of items? How often do you want to show a gallery of more than 16 results?

Hello @AndrewLee4, Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're seeing a prolonged file generation process for certain formats on certain items. I looked into the examples you've provided and I was able to reproduce the issue but without any obvious causes. Typically in cases where a large feature server (with records in the 10s of thousands or more and complex geometry) is generating a file, it can take a long time, but not over three days. The cause is usually a misconfigured or older server (which does not seem to be the case), or there is a problem on the Hub system where long running download jobs are not completed. Strategically we're aiming to move away from this system towards a more robust process. I recommend reading our blog post on "hosted downloads" and test out the beta capability on some of your services. We will investigate this issue further on our side, but in the meantime, when you have low traffic (such as at night or over the weekend), please try the following steps. First, pick one of those example and remove it from the groups shared to the naturalengland-defra site, change the sharing controls to "organization", wait a minute, and then change the sharing controls back to "public" and re-share with a group on the naturalengland-defra site. Then wait a few minutes and open the sidebar to see if the generation message still appears. Second, can you briefly describe your update process? In isolated cases like this, it's useful to understand how users make updates, when they're scheduled, and when they start noticing issues. Thanks for your patience

Hello @Leigh_Brooks Thanks for your comment. If you believe that you're seeing a bug or a suability problem with downloads on mobile, please reach out to our support team. Regarding the Explore Feeds button, I understand your point that the group is not GIS savvy. Currently there isn't a way to remove this button, but we're adding functionality that will be useful to non-GIS users. For example, through the Explore Feeds button, users will be able to subscribe to an RSS feed, the search catalog, and eventually email notifications for updates to the site and site content. We believe that this path is the best way to promote community engagement and lower the barrier to entry for community members to collaborate on their site. With that said, it would be useful to know more about if and how you or your volunteer would like to promote community engagement. How do you plan to communicate with your volunteers? Do you need the ability to subscribe to content or event updates?

@Alex-Santos thanks for your feedback. I appreciate your comments and desire to maintain a strong metadata workflow. I've discussed options with the team and we're considering an in-app setting to configure which value is displayed on the content views (ex. contact metadata, item owner, etc.). Taking this approach would be the first pattern for configuring displays on the content views, and so the change may take some time. In the meantime, we will hold off on releasing this change. Stay tuned for updates.

Displaying relevant metadata is critical for establishing trust and understanding from your site’s users. That is why we are introducing the ability to set the label for both the creator and organization on content view pages. Soon, Hub will prioritize contact values from item metadata to generate these labels. When a value is missing, ArcGIS Hub will fall back to the next best option just as it does today. We recommend that you review your current item metadata, take advantage of this capability, and let us know what other metadata configurations you would like to see. In this blog post we will briefly explain what happens today, what is changing, what you need to know, and what's coming next. What happens today? Today, when you look below the title on a content view page, you will see labels for the item’s creator (owner) and the item’s organization (source). In certain cases, when metadata are missing or a user or an organization are private, ArcGIS Hub will show a fallback value such as “Private Member” or “private organization.” Above is a screenshot of the Tahoe Layers content view page in ArcGIS Hub. The existing owner and organization item details are shown in the creator and organization labels. What is changing? We know how much work ArcGIS Hub content managers put into metadata. So we want to start putting it to use in more places. Certain customers may have a team member who creates content for their Hub site, but may not want their name displayed. This is the perfect opportunity to update the item metadata and change the label that your users will see. In addition to the existing fallback mentioned above, ArcGIS Hub will prioritize certain item metadata fields in the label. If an item has “citation” or “contact” metadata, then ArcGIS Hub will use these values. This will allow content managers to manually set owner and organization information. This behavior aligns the content view pages with existing web help documentation in the ArcGIS Hub FAQ section. To do this, update an item’s metadata and ArcGIS Hub will use the fallback listed below: Creator label Item metadata Resource > Citation > Contact > Individual Name Resource > Contact > Individual Name Metadata > Contact > Individual Name Item owner’s full name "Private Member" (only applicable if Item owner is private) Organization label Item metadata Resource / Citation / Contact / Organization Name Resource / Contact / Organization Name Metadata / Contact / Organization Name Item’s organization name "Private Organization" (only applicable if item’s organization is private) "External Organization" (only applicable if content is from an external organization) Above is a screenshot of the Metadata editor in ArcGIS Online for the Tahoe Layers item. We have added contact values for the “Individual Name” and “Organization Name” fields. Above is a screenshot of the Tahoe Layers content view page in ArcGIS Hub. The newly added metadata fields are shown in the creator and organization labels. What do I need to know? On Tuesday August 9th, this change will go into effect with the weekly scheduled release. We listened and decided to make a few changes before release. The ArcGIS Hub team is developing an option for users to specify which value they want for display. By default, this option will use the full fallback above, but users will be able to specify a value. Stay tuned to this blog post for updates on this setting and the release date. What’s coming next? The ArcGIS Hub team has heard from users who want the ability to customize and configure what is displayed on content view pages. Such requests include the ability to hide certain metadata fields, remove links, or manually set the values. The ArcGIS Hub team is in the planning phase for this work and we're gathering requirements from our users.Stay tuned for future developments! If you have an idea for a configuration that you would like to see on the content view pages, add a comment on this blog and submit an idea on the ArcGIS Hub Ideas board so that other members of the community can comment and give kudos for your idea.

Hi @BarryOtterson1 , Last week we identified an issue that caused a small portion of downloads to never complete. We have since resolved this issue, but it's possible that if your filtered downloads never complete, there is a separate issue. Is this still a problem today? Do you have a live example that I can examine? Thanks, Thomas

Hi @KristenWobbe1 , ArcGIS Hub indexes and enriches all public content. If you're seeing that metadata or data appear out of date, you're on the right track that you should manually check for content updates. For context, ArcGIS Hub will check for updates to all public items once a day. This is a batch process that runs during EST hours night and early morning hours. ArcGIS Hub will "harvest" ArcGIS Online and check to see if any metadata are out of date. In addition, anytime that there is an update to an item in ArcGIS Online and that item's metadata are updated, ArcGIS Online will notify ArcGIS Hub that the item's metadata has changed. Then ArcGIS Hub will update the index with the latest metadata typically within a few minutes.

@PGebhardt_Stone_Envthanks for the idea. We're currently working on a number of usability improvements for the search/browse experience. We intend to roll them out throughout the next few months. We're going to try them out on a new view for searching specific content types first, and then bring them to the existing search/discover experience. I have a few questions on desired functionality. What exactly would you want to see on the map? Hub could represent boundaries for content, individual records, etc. Also, are there other actions you'd like from a search/discover experience besides downloading?

Hi and thanks for asking about GA telemetry in ArcGIS Hub. Eventually we're aiming to release a guide on telemetry events logged and how to interact with events in your Google Analytics account. In the meantime, ArcGIS Hub logs custom dimensions for certain interactions. For downloads in particular, you can look for the custom dimension titled "id". This is the ID for the item, and in some cases a layer ID representing the service layer number backing that item. For example, you might see a value like "<itemID>_1". My recommendation is to experiment charting this custom dimension in Google Data Studio to get a feel for your results.

Hi @worldwidew , Thanks for your question. This appears to be an issue where the URL is pointing to the incorrect link for a download file. I've logged an issue for the team to look at. Additionally, for your information we made some updates to the Hub feeds (including DCAT) back at the end of 2021. Take a look at this blog post to see details and how to access the feed on the prefered URL https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-hub/announcements/upcoming-changes-to-dcat-configurations-on-arcgis-hub-sites/

@yrpEHthanks for submitting your idea. Can you clarify what you mean by data download filter? Do you have a link to an example that you consider confusing? The "Content Type" filter is found on the search page, not within the download interface. When you're viewing a content view, you can filter a map and/or table with specific attribute values, and then download the filtered data.

Hi @Spike73 Thanks for your question. Currently the search page doesn't allow for any customization other than applying some site themes as you noted. However, for mid-late 2022 we're considering ways to update the UX and customize the search page. I encourage you to open an enhancement request with specific things you'd like to see.

In 2021, ArcGIS Hub released a new download experience aimed to inform users about download file options and the status when files are being generated. After a year of valuable feedback, we're taking reliability a step further so that downloads are faster and more predictable. Below you'll find a few important upcoming changes and roadmap milestones. Stay tuned to the Hub changelog (hub.arcgis.com/pages/changelog) for the most up-to-date release information and the ArcGIS Blog (esri.com/arcgis-blog/overview) for in-depth articles about new Hub product capabilities. February 2022: ArcGIS Hub will stop long-running download jobs When data are updated, ArcGIS Hub will try to create updated files for each downloadable format. Starting in February 2022, Hub will stop file generation if it takes longer than 48 hours. To prevent any potential impact, all customers are encouraged to enable certain service-level settings including enabling extract capabilities for both hosted and non-hosted services. For context, services that do not have extract and sync capabilities enabled, Hub still provides download functionality, but it is significantly slower. This is because Hub must manually page through all the records in the service. This can slow even more if there are millions of records or the service is running on an old machine. With extract capabilities enabled, Hub knows that it can use the service's createReplica function to create faster and more reliable downloads. The team will continue to diligently test and fix bugs to the current download experience while we shift our focus to a new download architecture. May March 2022: Enhanced Hosted Downloads in Beta In March 2022, Content managers can try out a beta feature called "hosted downloads" that uses a different download architecture. This capability will be available for any content that is shared to ArcGIS Hub and served by a hosted feature service (Feature Layers or Tables). After content managers enable the capability for individual content, users will see more download formats, faster downloads, and fewer file-generation errors. UC 2022: Announcement for Hosted Downloads The ArcGIS Hub team is targeting early Summer 2022 to fully release the Hosted Downloads capability. During the Spring and Summer of 2022, the Hub team will collect usability feedback as we plan for enhancements in late 2022. During UC 2022, the Hub team will announce the support roadmap for Hub downloads through 2023. While the team expects to maintain support for downloads from ArcGIS Server versions >= 10.8 for at least another year, we plan to phase out support for older servers towards the end of 2022. In order to avoid lost functionality and to take advantage of a more reliable download system, we encourage customers to switch their services to Esri hosted services. If this option does not work for you or your team, we encourage all customers to consider upgrading their services to use ArcGIS Server versions to at least 10.8.
