Hi Kevin, There are a lot of tools out there (3 modelling) that require USGS DEM input and getting your raster data into this format is not as straight forward as it might seem. As you probably already know this is something that ArcGIS does not do. I have personally not tried this but a lot of folks in the GIS SE community have mentioned the gdal_tranlate utility. Similar discussion here. J

Any progress on this? I'm running into the exact same problem. I sent the data to the ESRI Analyst and they were able to create the TIN with the breaklines. I then tried it on the same data i sent them and it worked. I am still unable to add anything to an existing TIN though. Again they were able to do this successfully on their end but I am still running into the problem where I pretty much cannot edit an existing TIN. The latest suggestion from ESRI that I have not yet tried because it requires me to ditch my template, custom toolboxes and models is this: 1. Close ArcMap and ArcCatalog 2. Go to C : Users \ (profile) \ AppData \ Roaming 3. Rename the ESRI folder to OldESRI 4. Run the tools again to see if the results are correct this time

Please log a Support Incident and we will be glad to. The Analyst can take a look at the data and see what is going on and log a bug if necessary. I have not had any issues with the using of Breaklines in TINs. Thanks, The data is 2.69 MB and it is not letting me upload it here as it is too large a file.

I never had issues with this in previous version of ArcGIS. Here is my problem: 1st scenario: 1. Launch the Edit Tin tool and add TIN and Breakline (the breakline is a 3D line that is different from the surface elevation) 2. Edit Tin processing finished without errors. No change to TIN -> Breakline was ignored 2nd scenario: 1. Launch the create TIN tool and add point cloud (masspoints) as well as breaklines 2. Create TIN process finishes sucesfully. ONLY MASSPOINTS were used by the process. Breaklines were ignored. I tried HARDERASE with polygons and this too is NOT WORKING! What on earth is going on? I'd like ESRI staff to take look at this. Tried to upload the data (Masspoints and breaklines) but apparently I am not able to as I am getting some sort of gateway errors. Maybe the site is having a meltdown too. (Will try later)

I did not experience the same thing but something similar. I had a line feature class and I set the base height to a TIN. Then I extruded the line which looked fine like a fence. I then wanted to make this a multipatch so I saved and exported the Layer file to Multipatch. When I brought the multipatch into the scene it was way above the surface. So in my case the fix was to interpolate the feature class shapes into true 3D features using the same TIN. I then repeated the process with the 3D lines and it worked "as advertized". I think there something funky going on if you set base height an existing surface and then tinker around with the 3D properties and symbology. Try interpolating your shapes to 3D then try symbolizing again. You are right that this should work especially because many people use symbology to create globes, cubes and other 3D symbols then convert to multipatch and calculate volume, etc.

More Info: I further simplified the TIN i was finally able to sucessfuly convert to COLLADA. (Some triangles do not match and the problem gets worse with complex surfaces) However, SketchUp was taking hours loading the file so I don't even know if SketchUp would be able to read it. (Seems that everytime I import any Collada file generated in ArcGIS i get what appears to be a critical error but the import continues if i ignore the error, KMZ created from ArcGIS will not import into SketchUp at all) I've also tried exporting the LiDAR raster to XYZ and then to CSV and used the Could_v8 point cloud importer to try to bring it to SketchUp but this was taking 6 hours before i killed the process.

You are right. It does say you should be able to export to avi or mov. I would like to try this myself since the exported AVI only plays back when I use the defaul globe layers. As soon as I add my high resolution surface and imagery the exported AVI fails. Was hoping .mov would be worth the try but I too don't see the option:

Thanks Sean. That's certainly something I have not yet tried. From which directory should I remove this item. I does not seem to be in the project directory. (This issue is project specific.)

Now and then I run into the following problem: I start debugging the Add-In and breakpoints are ignored. Almost seems like the communication between the IDE and the component is not working. My problem is that the last time this had happened I resolved it and now I can't remember what I did to fix it. I also posted the a similar question here, but the solution there does not work.

In the past I used the SketchUp plugin for ArcGIS to export any TIN surfaces, polylines, points and polygons directly to SketchUp. This process had its set of hickups but it mostly worked perfectly until version 10 where this workflow was replaced by the "Collada" workflow. I can't get any lines, points polygons to SketchUp at all now and the Collada exporter for multipatch features is so buggy it's basically unusable. Since converting a complex TIN to multipatch either does not work at all or if it works it yield unusable results as well the conversion process from a complex multipatch to Collada fails almost every time; How do I export a TIN surface from ArcGIS to SketchUp without having to use the "Collada" method?

You can view 3D DXF and DWG files in ArcGIS natively. No conversion necessary. You can also import all features into a geodatabase or shapefile. As for the data format, if there are polylin and polygon features in the 3D model, you can export these to ESRI Shapefile or Geodatabase Features Class but the 3D Solid objects can be converted to ESRI 3D Multipatch Features. Textures and colors might not display correctly. ArcGIS 3D Analyst applications (ArcGlobe and ArcScene) are not exactly meant for viewing building interior space but I can't see why it couldn't work. It seems to me that Google SketchUp might be better suited for this type of visualization but you will need to get the PRO version to import DXF and DWG. Even in ArcGIS we use it to construct building exteriors for our scenes. The last time i checked, Google was offering a free 48 hour trial.

In addition to Jeff's answer; you could also use the TIN Editing tools (toolbar) which are now bundled with version 10. (Previously a separate install). If Hard Clip does not remove all the triangles you could delete them manually using these tools.
