For debugging purposes I add a string field called FORM_VERSION to my surveys that pulls the form version number found on the settings tab. I increase one of the version numbers each time I make a substantive change to the form and want to differentiate results between versions (e.g., when adding a new field, I can quickly identify why certain rows have nulls). Pulling the form version is easy in Survey123. Just add version() to the calculation column of the XLS form. The Survey123 mobile/desktop apps support this. The Survey123 web form does not support the version() calculation. Can support for this calculation be added to the web app? Here's a public survey for testing/validation. If you add any invalid test data, please let me know.

I am getting a "Failed to add data." error when adding a feature service via the Catalog Pane under Portal. The feature service is added by URL on ArcGIS Online because it is a secured feature service and the username/password are stored in the feature service definition. The secured feature service is published via ArcGIS Server 10.4.1 and contains data that is push/pulled through a firewall to an ArcSDE database (versioned) on Oracle install. Screenshot attached. In earlier testing, the workflow of adding AGOL-powered feature services via Catalog/Portal worked, but the secure feature service was hosted on ArcGIS Server 10.5.1. Currently, as a potential workaround, I can add the source REST URL of the secured feature service to ArcGIS Pro without issue, but I do not want to hand out the username and password to users. I can also add that same proxied feature service to ArcGIS Pro when it is running on the network where the data originates. Adding it to ArcMap as a hosted service works. And of course, I can view/edit this proxied feature service using web maps, Collector, Survey123, etc. What is causing the add data error when trying to add the data to ArcGIS Pro? Pro is at v2.1.2.

I recently encountered a business need to reproject a hosted web feature layer from an obscure projection to Web Mercator. This layer was inadvertently published by a user that had previously used said projection and forgot to change it when publishing. Working with Esri Solutions Engineer Matthew Viverito, I was able to reproject a web feature layer that included attachments and point web apps to the new service using ago-assistant. In the process, I also preserved the last editor value in a new field. What you need Editor access to layer in ArcGIS Online (AGO) ArcGIS Pro Editor access to any maps or apps using layer in AGO How To Optional: Preserving editor tracking The following steps are optional and pertain preserving editor tracking. If this is a requirement, do it before the reprojection Open the feature layer in AGO On the settings tab, disable editor tracking For good measure, export a backup to File GDB Open ArcGIS Pro and open an project for the work Open the Portal section of catalog and find the web feature layer Add fields for preservation, e.g., editor_old Use the field calculate geoprocessing tool to copy the values into the new fields Turn the editor tracking back on in AGO Reprojecting the feature layer and publishing Open ArcGIS Pro and open an project for the work Create a new file geodatabase Create a new feature dataset in whatever projection you want for the new feature layer, i.e., the reprojection The feature dataset enforces the chosen projection of all data inside it. Find the old layer in Catalog pane under Portal content Add to a new map Export that layer to the that new geodatabase inside the feature dataset (attachments are enabled by default) Once the export finishes, add that feature class to a new map Make sure to use a new map so the old map's projection is not carried over when publishing Adjust any symbology you want to update before publishing Share as web layer to your AGO content Check the editor preferences in the parameters area Analyze and fix any issues Publish Find the layer in AGO content (on the web) Make any necessary sharing, metadata, layer, or group updates Copy the service URL Open the AGO Assistant Choose Update the URL of Services in a Web Map from the I want to... menu Select any maps or apps that reference the old layer and update them with the new URL The structure of the URL must be identical, including the layer number if applicable Test all affected maps and apps for functionality The reprojected layer should now be visible throughout AGO There is a bug with the attribute table widget in Web App Builder. It is necessary to recreate any web apps where the attribute table is configured to look at a layer in the web map.

I tried reprojecting my data to GCS WGS 1984 to rectify the issue (my desired outcome is to have decimal degrees for X and Y) and I'm still getting the web mercator X and Y. But alas, the output CSV still looks like this.

There is a small discrepancy between the image direction tag name used by Survey123 and the Exiv2.3 specification: GPSImgDirection -vs- GPSImageDirection. Note that one tag has 'image' abbreviated. The Exiv2.3 specification uses the GPSImgDirection spelling while Survey123 only accepts the full GPSImageDirection spelling. I tested both spellings on a form. I used iPhone X to test. When I add the abbreviated form pulldata("@exif", ${image}, "GPSImgDirection") to my survey, no data is pulled when using either the built in camera or a previously taken photo. However, using the full spelled out form, data was returned: pulldata("@exif", ${image}, "GpsImageDirection") The same holds true for the GpsImageDirectionRef data. Here's a test form on Dropbox that dumps every possible tag in the Esri list text fields so I can determine the best data type to use in future implementations. You can see the two different spellings versions in there.

I am working on a dashboard that monitors an active Survey123-based collection effort. I want to track the field team efficiency. I can track their efficiency by calculating the difference between the start and end type fields in the feature service that Survey123 writes to. Can I create an indicator in Operations Dashboard that shows the average difference between two date fields over a given time period?

The new iPhone X has a taller screen resolution, making the current Survey123 UI look constrained. Is a redesign of the app planned to support the new resolution? The iPhone X display has 2436-by-1125-pixel resolution at 458 ppi. This screenshot shows the black bars at the top and bottom of the app, which could contain more survey area.

High Efficiency Image File Format (HEIF, often pronounced heef) is a new image format used by the Apple iPhone X and iPhone 8, running iOS 11. Is support of these files planned by Esri in survey forms? I recently tested a known working form on an iPhone X with some an image attachment field. For some reason, every time I submit the form, it would fail. After some troubleshooting it dawned on me the the new image file format on iPhone X might be to blame. Apple provides an option to switch to JPG in the device settings. After toggling the format to "Most Compatible," my form submitted successfully. To isolate testing errors, I made a new form for testing this issue. I had the iOS setting for format set to "High Efficiency" for both tests. Here are the results: Two images taken with the Survey123 in app camera - Success (a surprise) One image taken with native iOS camera set to HEIF format and attached to the form using the photo library attachment in the form - Fail see below Attaching a photo that I know to be taken in HEIF caused this error:

Thank you for this guide. I've used it to deploy Survey123 to a few machines. Is there a similar workflow available for the Windows Collector for ArcGIS application? I want to include Collector on new Windows-based collector laptops but the only way that I've found to install collector uses the Windows Store. Setting up a store account for each user is not always practical, so I am interested if there's a workaround to install the app directly. Thanks again!

I want to provide dynamic feedback in a note that summarizes the responses. I have been successful in deploying these summaries with both newlines (\n) and tabs (\t) in the concatenation formula (concat). When I try to add some formatting to the concatenation, it breaks the newline and tabs, so that everything appears on one line. I have attached a form to test this. In the results, we can see that adding some bold text to the concat causes an issue. Is it possible to apply formatting in the same concatenation form that a newline appears?

It looks like you may have copied the value "CLAffiliation" in choices list_name column from another sheet because the fonts are different. Doing this will bring any formatting along and any data validation rules, which are present on the survey sheet. To prevent, try this: Copy the cell with the list name Paste it with the Only Values option (MS Office help link). This will strip any formatting or text that you cannot see. Alternative: strip the formatting Select the red cells Clear Formats (typically on the Home ribbon in the Editing group) Be wary that this could inadvertently mask an error that will prevent the survey from functioning It is quite possible that copied text contains an invisible character like a trailing space that is causing your form to

Summary I found an issue where publishing a survey with a name called globalid will cause it to fail upon publishing (see 721013), despite passing all the checks in Connect. Please consider adding "globalid" or "GLOBALID" to the list of reserved words in the Advanced Excel Template. Product Tested Survey123 Connect for ArcGIS 2.4.60 Details It is not possible to publish a survey with an attribute named "globalid" to an Esri-hosted #ArcGIS account. I found that attempting to publish a survey with that keyword causes an error. I suggest adding the keyword "GLOBALID" to the list of reserved words found on the types tab in the Excel Advanced Template. Then, update the Reserved Named Range in Excel to include the new list item. The sample table below will cause the failure to occur. type name label hint text asset_id Asset ID This ID comes from the Collector app text globalid Global ID The parent feature's global ID

Summary Can you please allow users to expand the details of the status messages when publishing a new survey? Product Tested Survey123 Connect for ArcGIS 2.4.60 Details I recently encountered an Error 400 while publishing a survey and was wondering what caused it. I tried searching GeoNet but did not find anything helpful. I tried it a few times and continued to get the same result. Why? I found out. I inadvertently adjusted the column width (see the video below) of the publishing message screen and suddenly saw that the error message is passed back to Survey123 Connect. Connect seems to lack the ability to display this message clearly. I am hoping that the Survey123 team could incorporate a button to expand the error texts. Although I could only see half of the message, I was able to figure out what was causing the problem, but it would be great if the error display were made more explicit. Video Here's a screen recording that shows how expanding the column width allows us to view the error text. Attachment The form that caused the error, intentionally, is attached. I'll report that error separately, as it could be mitigated.
