I have a feature class (road centrelines) in SDE Oracle, that has multiple relationship classes to tables that contain information such as address ranges, maintenance class information, road lifecycle status, etc. For security reasons only the road editor role has permission to edit the road centreline feature class (all others are read only). The address editor role has permission to edit the address range table. The Maintenance group has permission to edit the maintenance table, etc. What I want to do is: Road editor uses ArcMap to define the spatial road location. Saves edits, closes ArcMap Address editor opens ArcMap, starts editing, selects the road segment and adds the associated address information Here is my problem. When I start editing in ArcMap 10 (SP3) as the address editor, I can't see the attributes of the road and therefore can't get to the related record. The only method that I have been successful with is select the primary key value from the road centreline table, copy it, then start a new address table entry and paste the value into the foreign key field in the address table. This is clunky, so I keep thinking that I am missing something simple. What button do I need to push to get the primary key to auto populate in my related table? The relationship class is defined as simple and 1:1 . This works just fine if I start the process by selecting the road, selecting the + to see the related information, selecting the address relationship, and saying add new. Then the new table entry is created and the primary key is automatically populated. But this will only work with providing permissions to edit all tables and feature classes. This is not really an option. Thanks, Alison

It appears that the user had an explicit ORACLE_HOME environment variable set. This was different from the home set in her %PATH% variable. Once we deleted the ORACLE_HOME variable, the application worked fine. We will have to do some further testing to ensure that we have not impacted any other applications, but at least now she can run Workflow Manager. Alison

Thanks to the folks in Redlands. It appears that there is no specific configuration. Basically it will read all the data workspaces and if it encounters one that it cannot connect to, it will stop. In my case I have desktop users with an Oracle 10 client and servers with Oracle 11 clients. I was hoping to be able to keep workspaces for both and point to different workspaces depending on the job step (No desktop steps from the server). Unfortunately, if I want to use the spatial notification I cannot start it on the server with only an Oracle 11 client, and both Oracle 10 and Oracle 11 data workspaces. Alison

I recently turned off my spatial notification services and made some changes to my data workspace (changed from an Oracle 10g connection to an Oracle 11 connection). Now when I try to start the notification service it will not start. After increasing the logging to level 5 I found the following in the logs. 11/09/2012 12:30:47.114 Level: 5 OnStart initialized the necessary licenses.. 11/09/2012 12:30:57.116 Level: 5 OnStart connecting to the default repository.. 11/09/2012 12:30:59.367 Level: 5 OnStart Finished connecting to the default repository.. 11/09/2012 12:30:59.374 Level: 5 OnStart connected to the default repository and retrieved data workspace info, Workspaces Count = 3 11/09/2012 12:10:48.695 Level: 5 OnStart connecting to Workspace 0, Name = EGISED4_wmx_10g, ID = {2B41FA02-3368-49F0-BB7A-D670703C2065} 11/09/2012 12:10:48.714 Level: 3 SpatialNotificationService: OnStart caught exception: Could not connect to Workspace. Please ensure connection is valid, StackTrace: at ESRI.ArcGIS.JTXUI.Service1.OnStart(String[] args) I know that the connection is incorrect, but I don't really know where to go to change it. Do I need to reinstall? I cannot remove the 10g workspace because my clients will be connecting with 10g, but my servers with 11. Thanks, Alison

Well I answered my own question - Yes I was missing something basic. My user did not have the privilege to ManageExtendedProperties. Once I had granted the user that privilege, I can now edit the properties. Alison

I have added an Extended Property table into my Workflow, but unfortunately I can't seem to edit the table. Here is what I did: Created a table in the WMX repository (WMX_Capital_Works). The table is owned by the WMX user, and I have granted r/w access to all users in the system (for the moment). The table is NOT versioned. The table has a JOB_ID column In WMX Administrator I added the Extended property table with the JOB_ID as the link field and with a 1:1 relationship Then in the Job Type, I selected the Extended properties tab and selected the WMX_Capital_Works table. I toggled off a few of the fields, (JOB_ID, OBJECTID) and set the parameters for the rest of the fields. Some are editable, some are required, I set alias fields and some default values. Then I created a job of this job type in the Workflow Manager as my user (adm-gaiseral) When I toggle the extended properties tab, I can see the fields (displaying the ones that I requested to be visible and astericks beside the one defined as required) but I cannot edit the values. Am I missing something basic? Thanks, Alison

It is now working again. It appears that I had added a custom notifier that wasn't functioning properly with my system. (I was receiving some other errors that indicated a conflict). I deleted the DEFAULT_NOTIFIER entry in the JTX_PROPERTIES table and things are back to working again. I also upgraded from SP3 to SP5 in hopes that I will get better logging information. Thanks, Alison

I am trying to roll out ArcGIS Workflow Manager and Administrator to a specific machine and for some reason I cannot get either the Manager or the Administrator to work. When the user starts WMX they get the error message: The JTC connection file does not exist or could not be opened. When the user starts WMX Adminstrator, the application opens, but when they double click the default connection they get the same error message. I have confirmed that the DEFAULT_JTX_DB is set to the correct connection file. I have confirmed the directory location of the Database folder using the WMXAdvancedSettings.exe. I have confirmed that the .jtc file is indeed in that location (database folder). I tried changing the Database folder to be in another location on the local drive to ensure that the user had read/write permissions, and then copied the .jtc file to that folder. It still tells me the connection file does not exist. I CAN open ArcCatalog on that machine and turn on the WMX extension and create a Workflow Manager Database connection without any problems. So I know that the user and login are file. In fact I create a new .jtc using ArcCatalog and I still get the error when opening Workflow Manager. What am I missing? Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

I recenly switched my Workflow Manager administration to a new server. Unfortunately now I am finding that my notifications no longer work. In order to debug this problem I did two things: 1) created a workflow that has only one step which is a notification. I have filled in the from and to values with valid email addresses. 2) I found documentation pointing me to change the logging level to 5. (I attempted to run the WMXAdvancedSettings.exe but due to security issues I was unable to change the registry settings on the windows 2008 server I am working on. Instead I went into the registry and manually changed the LogsLevel to 5 and the LogsPath to a directory that I have write access to. So I create a new job my super simple workflow and ran the notification step. I get the following error: An error occurred while trying to execute this step. Unknown error. When I check my log files I can now see the log files appearing in the defined directory and the file indicates that the logging level is set to 5. Unfortunately, the logs don't seem to provide any information about the notification. Here are some of the contents. 20/08/2012 13:39:50.915 Level: 5 ~GetJobFromRow 20/08/2012 13:39:50.953 Level: 5 ~CJTXWorkflowBase 20/08/2012 13:39:50.954 Level: 5 ~CJTXJob 20/08/2012 13:39:50.955 Level: 5 ~CJTXWorkflowBase 20/08/2012 13:39:50.957 Level: 5 ~CJTXJob 20/08/2012 13:39:50.958 Level: 5 ~CJTXWorkflowBase 20/08/2012 13:39:50.959 Level: 5 ~CJTXJob 20/08/2012 13:39:50.960 Level: 5 Finished executing the step 20/08/2012 13:40:49.862 Level: 5 ~CJTXWorkflowBase 20/08/2012 13:40:49.863 Level: 5 ~CJTXJob 20/08/2012 13:40:49.864 Level: 5 ~CJTXStep So my question is how can I debug this issue? I know that the smtp is correct, as I have an executable that I can run that tests against the smtp on this server. Is there somewhere else that I can go to find more information? Any suggestions welcome! Alison

Robert, Did you manage to fix this issue? I have run into it a couple of times now. The way I fixed it the first time was by deleting the feature class and recreating it. Now that it has happened a second time, I would prefer to find a solution. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Alison

Mike, In the end I used the COPY_LINKED_RECORD to get the information that I wanted. It is working fine. The one issue I do have is for some reason that materialized views seem to not be completely reliable. I find that if I create a view off the mat view, and then use the view for reference, things seem to work better. I did have to create a new field that included the road name, suffix, and municipality as the old system I am connecting to has multiple IDs for the same road name, as the road passes through multiple former municipalities (pre-amalgamation). We have run into the issue of wanting to something similar to a lookup and extract other data type action. In this case we needed an intersect (find valve inside a grid), and then a generateID based on the resulting grid value. Thanks, Alison

I am sure I am missing something obvious, but I can't seem to find the place to set the min and max values for a range domain. I know they are not set since the validation tells me so. I am using version 10 of the Diagrammer. Thanks!

I am using the attribute assistant (which by the way I think is wonderful) but I have run into a bit of a problem. Here is the scenario: My road names are stored and maintained in a separate Oracle Database. I am creating spatial road locations in an Oracle SDE geodatabase and need to lookup a road name and copy the value to the spatial feature. I am using the attribute assistant and the validate_attribute_lookup value method to get the road name and it works great. Now, what I need to do is while I am looking up the road name value, I need to get the unique road name id (another value associated with the table entry). Any suggestions on how I could do this? The road name ids are gibberish so the lookup is not helpful. Ideally, I would just like it to grab two pieces of information when I am doing the lookup. All suggestions are welcome. Alison
