Hi. This is probably not useful, but you do have to have an "Administrator" role for your user account to do some maintenance. To confirm, can you change user roles? That is another capability of an Administrator role. Best, Mary Ellen

Hello. Does anyone know if it is possible to set the sharing level when automatically publishing a service to ArcGIS Online through a python script? I see it referenced in the UploadServiceDefinition_server documentation, but I can't figure out the syntax when I don't need any of the other optional parameters. And does it even work with ArcGIS Online? Anyone with any thoughts or experience? Thanks, Mary Ellen

This worked great for me! You saved me a bunch of time. Thanks. Now, I'm just wondering if anyone knows how to set the sharing during publishing using python. I can see references to it in the documentation for UploadServiceDefinition_server, but I cannot figure out the syntax when it is the only optional setting you need. And, does it work in AGOL? Thanks, Mary Ellen

Hi. I have a quick follow-up question, and it may be a stupid question... But, if we generate a tiled map service using AGOL's computing resources, would we see the same thing? Thanks

Thanks for the quick response. And they probably are "true curves." It's good to know it is not something on our end. Hope this enhancement is at the top of the list :). Thanks again.

Hello. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this problem we're having when publishing to AGOL through ArcMap 10.1. The data in the .mxd looks like this: The same data in AGOL looks like this: Does anyone know why this is happening. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi. Does anyone know how I can get around the following problem? I'm using the AttributeQuery sample to create a query add-in for a Silverlight viewer app and everything is working fine except for a problem I'm encountering with double data types (in Oracle SDE). Depending on the query results, I get the following errors: All rows must be of type 'System.Int32' for the "BEG_INTERSECT_MP' attribute. All rows must be of type 'System.Decimal' for the "BEG_INTERSECT_MP' attribute. The BEG_INTERSECT_MP attribute values are a mixture of integer (e.g. 1) and double (e.g. 0.5) in both cases. I'm sure the error I receive just depends on which value is in the first returned row. But, I need to get this working so I don't get any errors. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Mary Ellen P.S. I did find the following reference later today so it looks like I'm on the right track in the explanation of the problem. I would still appreciate anyone's opinion on how to address this. http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/48685-How-to-use-MapApplication.ShowPopup?p=166911&viewfull=1#post166911 (rzwaap, 1/26/2012)

Hello. This may be a geoprocessing/arcgis server issue, but since I'm seeing the behavior through geoprocessing rest points and using the Silverlight Viewer, I thought I'd start here. The problem is this: I have a geoprocessing service (.tbx only) that I've deployed in ArcGIS Server 9.3.1. It simply does a SELECT from a feature class in SDE based on user input. A SELECT output is a feature class. This works fine in ArcMap so I know the geoprocessing service itself is okay. Viewing the service through a browser at http://<server>/ArcGIS/rest/services/.../GPServer/SDVReturnRoadCharByCountyRoute, the Default Value Field names for the output are the expected SDE field names. But, after executing, when the geoprocessing service output is placed "in_memory" the field names are truncated to 10 characters I assume because the shapefile format is used. When the geoprocessing service output is placed in scratch.gdb, the field names returned are the aliases, instead of the SDE field names. At least that is how it seems the Silverlight Viewer sees them. This is a problem because the only attribute values that show up in the silverlight viewer app popups and "Show Table" are those where the Default Value Field names match the returned field names. I'm sure this is confusing, but does this mean enough to someone to point me in a direction? Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks, Mary Ellen

Hi, Can anyone tell me where I can find Esri version 10 add-in templates for Visual Studio 2010? In my reading, I understand that they should be installed with the ArcObjects .NET SDK. Unfortunately, I didn't do the install so don't know if something was missed, but I only see four add-ins which indicates that something was installed correctly - ArcCatalog Add-in, ArcMap Add-in, ArcScene Add-in, and ArcGlobe-Add-in. In particular, I need the "Add-in Command Container." Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Mary Ellen

Thanks, Mike. I appreciate the response. Could you elaborate a little on what you mean by a web map with queries opening by default in Explorer Online? Our maps have queries created through Explorer Online, but they still open using the arcgis.com viewer by default. Perhaps you mean something different? Thanks, Mary Ellen

Hi. Does anyone know if there is a way to set the default map viewer (in AGOL for Organizations if that matters). We like the features available in our maps when using ArcGIS Explorer Online and would like for some of our maps to open there by default. I happened to stumble upon one map in ArcGIS.com ("State of Utah") that behaves that way, but now wonder if it is just a fluke. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks, Mary Ellen

Hello, I have an easy question, but I have not been able to find any documentation on creating and deploying custom jtx custom-steps for an answer. I have been told that a custom custom-step must be deployed on every client machine who will use the workflow in which the custom custom-step is used. That is, the .dll is not maintained in a single, central location for a workflow, but must be distributed everywhere? Is this true? (Oh, this is for version 9.3.1.) Any help is appreciated. And if anyone knows where I can find documentation about the JTX/workflow manager api and deploying custom steps, I'd really appreciate that information, too. Thank you. Mary Ellen

Bill, Glad I could help. And sorry I was so vague about "newer features." Someone posted some suggestions to another related question I had last year. His suggestions included taking advantage of the ability to use layer packages as geoprocessing output in 10. I haven??t looked into it at all since we haven't implemented 10 yet, but it may be worth some investigative time. There may be other options, too. I don't know... Anyway, if it helps, here??s the other thread: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/3160-Convert-GPFeatureRecordsetLayer-to-FeatureLayer?p=155871#post155871 Best, Mary Ellen

Hi. If you still need it, I posted some code under the thread, http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/3552-Transfer-Explorer-Point-to-ArcGIS-Server-Geoprocessing-Service?p=155870&posted=1#post155870. Since you are working with version 10, though, I would suggest you explore some of the newer options. I think, anyway, that notes can be a bit cumbersome for the user. Thanks, Mary Ellen

Hi. I can provide you the bits of code that I created to convert the returned features into notes, but if you are using version 10, I think there are other options you may want to explore. The notes solution can be a bit cumbersome for users. We're not using 10 yet, so I can't offer anything more. Anyway, I've attached the code. Hope it helps. Thanks, Mary Ellen
