Hi. I've been using ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Online for Organizations for a couple of years. We are looking at Portal for ArcGIS. I can't seem to find the answer to a question I have about the types of services you can publish using Portal for ArcGIS. One of the limitations of AGOL is that you can only publish tiled services or feature services; not dynamic map services like you can publish using ArcGIS Server. Dynamic map services are a better solution for a lot of the large data sizes and labeling requirements we have. From what I can find, it looks like only the same types of services are published through Portal as AGOL. I've always been told that AGOL is a scaled down version of ArcGIS Server so the lack of service hosting types and capabilities has been understood. But, I would have expected those options to exist for something that sits on top of a full ArcGIS Server install. And maybe it does. I just can't find that information. So, to start, can anyone tell me what exactly a Portal/AGOL feature service is from an ArcGIS Server standpoint? Thanks for the help. Mary Ellen

Hi. We are unable to download anything from our Open Data site. The blue bar will fill in and then just sits there on the map area forever. The service I'm using contains a layer of about 19000 points, but the same things happens if I zoom in to where there are just a few points and download the filter by map extent. Does anyone know why this might be occurring? Are there limits on the size or number of features/attributes in a map service used in this tool? Is there something we need to do on our map service side? Thanks, Mary Ellen

Hi, I just wanted to say thank you! for your suggestion to apply the same IE LAN Settings fix that works for the ArcGISConnectionBin.exe problem in build 2500. That seems to be a solution in this case as well. Best, Mary Ellen

Hi, Thanks for the reply. First, I thought I would let you know that we've been working with Esri on this and they have been able to reproduce the issue and have logged a bug report. However, they haven't been able to identify the problem or offer a solution, yet. BUT, yesterday I was testing an idea we had and maybe this will help. In my test, if I uncheck the IE10 Internet Options->Connection->LAN Settings "Automatically detect settings" setting Build 1500 seems to work. Additionally, esri tried it yesterday, too, and they said that didn't work for them but what did work was checking "Use a proxy server for your LAN" and "Bypass proxy server for local addresses." Perhaps it is worth a try? And I'm curious to learn if it does/doesn't work as further testing of the idea. Btw, the idea came from the report that unchecking that setting in IE10 fixes an often reported problem with Build 2500. The thought is that it could impact Build 1500, too. Thanks, Mary Ellen

Hi. I know it has been nearly a year since you reported this problem, but I am wondering if you ever found an answer. We are experiencing the exact same thing (but with build 1500) since we started pushing IE10 out to our users last weekend. All was fine in IE9 and Build 1500. Then IE 10 was installed and it appears that every ArcGIS Explorer Desktop no longer works properly. Thanks, Mary Ellen

Hi. Our enterprise is using build 1500 of ArcGIS Explorer and this morning we've started to experience serious problems. Symptoms include: ArcGIS Explorer opens but the basemap won’t redraw as we pan around. It just shows “Streaming…” at the bottom of the map for a while and then stops, but the basemap doesn’t fill in. Eventually, the application becomes unresponsive and must be closed through the windows task manager. Other times panning works but then AGX hangs when we try to change the basemap. After killing the application with the task manager, AGX may or, more likely, may not open again - either hanging at the splash screen or partially open. It seems to revolve around the basemaps, but it's hard to tell since it hangs up pretty quickly. Everything was working fine at the end of last week. The only thing I know that changed over the weekend is IE 10 was pushed out to our computers. Does anyone know if that would affect ArcGIS Explorer in this (or any) manner? Or have any thoughts in general? Thanks, Mary Ellen

Hi. I almost forgot... I contacted Esri about this directly and they were able to reproduce the problem. It is now a logged bug, NIM103015. Hopefully, we'll see this corrected in the final release. Mary Ellen

Hi. I recently saw a post that said the final release of the Open Data app is "due out soon." That is great news. But does anyone know what "soon" means? Even just a broad date range or quarter would be helpful in my work planning. Thanks.

Hi. I don't know if this is just us, but I've discovered that if I enable/disable open data and then just close the browser, my agol site's security policy "Allow anonymous access to your organization" is unchecked. This happens every time. Fortunately, I now know what is happening so can avoid it. So this is really to find out if anyone else experiences the problem. Thanks.

Well, I was going to delete this in embarrassment, but maybe the solution could help someone else who isn't bringing their A game at the moment. Turns out, my URL was missing a slash after the https:. Apparently, Chrome and Firefox are smart enough to assume it is a typo and takes you to your url anyway. IE9 does not. Thanks to anyone who took a moment to think about this.

Hi. We're seeing an issue with URLs in custom popups in Internet Explorer 9 that we're not seeing in Firefox of Chrome. The URL is concatenated (from text and an attribute) to look like this: ttps://connect.ncdot.gov/projects/planning/STIResults/T130087.pdf In Firefox and Chrome, clicking on the URL in the custom popup takes us to that URL. In IE, it takes us to: ttps://ncdot.maps.arcgis.com/connect.ncdot.gov/projects/planning/STIResults/T130078.pdf Does anyone know why this is occurring and what we can do about it? Thanks. P.S. The "h" is removed above to make the url more readable as a non-link.

Hi. I posted on this earlier but wanted to mention that we continue to get calls and complaints about requested layers not in the web maps we've created or that the web map is useless because users can't toggle layers on and off. Can anyone share how you educated your users about using the "About" and "Content" buttons. The look and feel of those buttons don't appear to be intuitive to our users. Thanks, Mary Ellen

Hi. I just want to confirm with someone else that what I'm seeing regarding the Routing setting on a web map is correct. If I have routing disabled, those not logged into the organization will not see the "Directions" button. But, any user logged into the organization, regardless of role settings, will see a "Directions" button. Since routing uses credits, we're trying to see if we can limit the availability to only where we need it. But, if this is true, then we need to get more creative. Thanks.
