Not too certain what you are asking. If you need to calculate sequential numbers, simple python code in field calculator (from Arc Help): Calculate a sequential ID or number based on an interval. Parser: Python Expression: autoIncrement() Code Block: rec=0 def autoIncrement(): global rec pStart = 1 #adjust start value, if req'd pInterval = 1 #adjust interval value, if req'd if (rec == 0): rec = pStart else: rec = rec + pInterval return rec And if you have a definition query, it will only calculate values for the selected records. The metadata should provide this information. I do not know the source of your data, but the USGS states: Q: What is the vertical accuracy of NED data? A: The accuracy of the National Elevation Dataset (NED) varies spatially because of the variable quality of the source digital elevation models (DEMs). As such, the NED inherits the accuracy of the source DEMs. The most recently published figure of overall absolute vertical accuracy expressed as the root mean square error (RMSE) is 2.44 meters. Details of this analysis are explained in the Vertical Accuracy of the National Elevation Dataset paper, and are published in the Digital Elevation Model Technologies and Applications: The DEM Users Manual 2nd Edition.

You misunderstand. This is not an artifact from scanning, it is an optical illusion created by the direction of the shadows on the ground during the image capture from the airplane. the two photos show the same extents and the same groundsurface, but the features that are raised appear sunken and the features that are sunken appear raised. When you rotate the photo 180 degrees, the features invert and what was sunken appears raised and what was raised appears sunken. My question is what method exists (if any) that will produce the inversion of features without rotating the image. Regards, Jim

You need to look at the following link: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//00s500000020000000 towards the bottom is a section "Using the arcpy.mapping module to find and repair data links for a number of map documents" Regards, Jim

use the Try...Except Code will enter the try block and attempt to execute. If an error occurs, the try block execution is stopped, and transferred to the exception block. The exception can be coded to simply move on to the next item in the list if you wish. Regards, Jim

This is not possible unless you have the same range of values(min and max) for the renderer to stretch the color scheme across. By definition, a stretched rendering will use the minimum value for the first color, the maximum value for the last color, and pick the intermediate color values based on the stretch between min and max. So, you would need to modify your raster dataset to have the same minimum and maximum values to recreate the same rendering. You could use a con() statement to only keep values within the original range, and then alter 2 pixels at the edge to recreate the min/max you require. Regards, Jim

Scott, these are all extensions / paid add-ons. Look under the main menu to see if you have access to any of them: Customize >> Extensions. ESRI does allow you to have a trial period and test extensions for 30-60 days, so that is always an option, too.

Could you be more specific? Is your "local coordinate" a full system with defined paramters, or is it a "Site coordinate" with a randomly chosen 0,0 point and all coordinates based on the x,y offset in meters from that point? if it is a defined coordinate system, you could follow Robert's suggestion. If it is in site coordinates, you will have to use "Spatial Adjustment" tool to reposition your data. This assumes you know where at least 2 features shown in the map are located in UTM coordinate space. Regards, Jim

The first thing I think of is an inset. Configure it to also use data driven pages How you synchronize them is for you to figure out, as I haven't done it. Perhaps an additional field in the index layer, or a different index layer all together that has the same name field for identification, but different feature extents to set your inset extent. I am not certain what the "Pour Color" icon is, but if you double click on the shapefile in the table of contents, and then go under the "Symbology" tab, you can choose the symbol type and color you want to use. Regards, Jim

Far as I can see, there is no way to do that. You could either create the feature using the bezier curve segments tool, or turn on "Stream Mode" under Editing >> Options (this would emulate the freehand tool). Regards, Jim

Scott, what you need to do is interpolate a surface from point data. This can be accomplished with the Spatial Analyst extention as well as 3D Analyst and the Geostatistical Analyst extentions. If you do not have access to these, you could search for open source kriging algorithms online ie: HPGL (High Performance Geostatistics Library) is open source with a number of kriging algorithms. Try going to the folder location of the jpg file, and delete all of the files with the same name, but different extentions (ie: if your file is terrain.jpg, delete terrain.aux.xml and terrain.ovr and terrain.jgw etc.) then when you add it back in to the map for georeferencing, it should behave as expected.
