Internally we have some data that needs further evaluation regarding synchronization on 10.3.1. However, other 10.3.1 services are successfully synchronizing with ArcGIS for AutoCAD 350. So now the focus is shifting to why some data may have an issue? Those with issues, can you create a "new" simple feature service on 10.3.1 and synchronize that with ArcGIS for AutoCAD? Other Esri applications edit feature services differently; ArcMap uses a different strategy than the Online viewer which uses REST/Only calls, ArcGIS for AutoCAD uses SOAP, so its not always evident where the problem might be just by comparing them. Those people with synchronization issues on other versions of ArcGIS for Server will be dealing with server configuration issues, not the subject of this thread which is ArcGIS for AutoCAD working with ArcGIS for Server 10.3.1 specifically. If anyone has their 10.3.1 server we can access to test that would be very helpful to isolate any issues. You can follow up with me directly. dkuehne@esri.com

Further evaluation shows that ArcGIS for AutoCAD does not appear to be the source of the problem. Internal testing shows other factors. In the cases where you are having difficulty synchronizing, Can you use the ArcGIS Online viewer to edit your data? If you add your feature services to the Web Viewer and cannot edit them there, then it is more likely we have all be dealing with server issues regarding updating databases and feature services not ArcGIS for AutoCAD synchronizing services. I would be interested if this is the case or not for those having problems? dkuehne@esri.com

Still diagnosing the issue, we’ve experienced it too. I think it is likely on our side.

Daniel, Sounds like you are using the AutoCAD geolocate option rather than the Esri coordinate system definition. The AutoCAD version of defining a coordinate system can be like warping the world to your drawing, where as the Esri coordinate system assumes your drawings coordinates are drawn in a world coordinate system. Even if they are you have to identify what that coordinate system is. Sometimes they agree. You may just have to use the ArcGIS for AutoCAD assign coordinate system tool on ribbon. ArcGIS for AutoCAD only recognizes the Esri coordinate system defined in your drawing. If you fail to specify a coordinate system then it the first service you connect to will define the coordinate system. If that first service is a ArcGIS online base map like the world imagery then your drawing will think it is in web mercator, which it probably isn't. If that is the case you'll want to remove the esri coordinate system and assign the correct one for your data. There are thousands of nominal coordinate system to choose from that ship with ArcGIS for AutoCAD. You could also define a custom one using the syntax of a standard Esri .PRJ file.

The install won't necessarily work but you can copy the resulting program files and use/copy them from an existing install of 2015-2013. Be sure that the OS matches and that you are using the 64bit version or 32bit version.

Karen, The ArcGIS for AutoCAD application is useful for surveyors who are familiar with editing in AutoCAD but that are tasked with generating content destined for GIS, either as the primary or secondary work product. With just the free plug-in they can get free basemaps connect to valuable data services and generate attributed ArcGIS datasets within their AutoCAD .DWG files using the skills they already possess in AutoCAD. Here are some other ideas for GIS for Surveyors: GIS for Surveying -Don

The ArcGIS for AutoCAD 375 Release will likely be some time this winter and will include be certified for AutoCAD 2016. However the current versions seems to work just fine with AutoCAD 2016, as is.

ArcGIS for Server 10.1 dropped support for various file based data-sources such as CAD for publishing to Map Services. These in-memory data sources didn't always scale very well. There is a renewed interest in making this functionality work moving forward, but technical hurdles need to be addressed. There is an option in ArcGIS Pro to convert your drawings whenever you add them to the map. This means that if you were to publish those maps to Server your CAD data would appear as drawn. This is because the data although it looks the same is already in a geodatabase. Converting your CAD data to a GDB and then publishing the resultant map would also work in ArcMap. We do however recognize the convenience of including that CAD map directly... We hear you.

Yes there are two different types of pre-defined symbology that you can use with feature services in ArcGIS for AutoCAD. One method is to anticipate the layer name and create AutoCAD layers in your drawing where you have defined the default layer symbology for COLOR, LINEWEIGHT, LINE STYLE etc.... The other pre-defined symbology deals with AutoCAD blocks for POINT type features. You can define an AutoCAD block with the same name as the feature layer and whenever ArcGIS for AutoCAD draws that feature service POINT layer it will insert your block with that name instead of the default point entity. Here is a video that talks a little bit more about this subject in this video about creating template files: How to Add ArcGIS data to AutoCAD: Part 5 Template Files - YouTube

Perhaps you can rephrase your question? ArcGIS for AutoCAD does not support "hosted services" yet (Hosted Service: REST Only services hosted on ArcGIS Online, as contrasted to On Premise ArcGIS for Server that you host within your organization or on a virtual server in the cloud.) . ArcGIS for AutoCAD does support feature services, Image services and Map services that those can contain attributes accessible in ArcGIS for AutoCAD. As the GIS administrator that publishes data you have options to enable different levels of attribution in the services you publish. Thoughts I have would be to test those services in other client software like the ArcGIS.com viewer. Or by looking at the REST endpoint URL to see what capabilities have been enabled for your services. For Map Services you won't be able to view the attributes unless the DATA capability has been enabled for example. Before even that the services will be published from an ArcMap map, so the layers within the map that you publish also need to have those attributes exposed.

A couple of thoughts: 1. The free plug-in from Safe Software for REVIT is the best way to get useful GIS features out of REVIT and into the Data Interoperability Extension on its way to an ArcGIS Database or shapefile, etc... 2. If you already have ArcGIS data and want to create a .DWG file. The ArcGIS [EXPORT TO CAD] tool can accomplish this. If the data that you want to export is MULTIPATCH then you'll want to convert it to 3D Polygons first, using a tool like FEATURE TO POLYGON.

Like you mention you can create ArcGIS data inside a DWG file that is better than shapefiles by exporting, from ArcGIS desktop with EXPORT TO CAD or connecting to ArcGIS for Server Services, or by creating GIS data using the plug-in from scratch. But if you already have a shapefile the plug-in won't do anything with it. AutoCAD Map can read the shapefile but like you say it create object data not ArcGIS (MSC) data. Safe software's FME also support conversion to AutoCAD DWG with MSC, and of course exporting from ArcGIS desktop.

Maybe ArcGIS for AutoCAD could help you. I am not sure of all the requirements, but maybe it could help. I might suggest ways to use AutoLISP to update your pipes from the attributes that get carried along when you use [EXPORT TO CAD] and then inside AutoCAD you can use AutoCAD and ArcGIS for AutoCAD's AutoLISP API to make changes to the features that can be read back into ArcGIS desktop. If you have Spatial Analyst there is a GP tool that can set the two end elevations from attributes before you export to CAD. [Feature To 3D By Attribute] (3D Analyst) Let me know if you want to discuss it more...
