The index may be stored in the feature class, do you have the write permission to the feature class or table that the layer points to?

This has been an issue for a while, FME has provided an extension to do this. Visit http://www2.safe.com/convert/dwg-to-arcgis-online-feature-service. They have a free trial and demo available. You might also try saving your DWG to a previous release like AutoCAD 2010. There was a known issue with AutoCAD 2013 and ArcGIS. Rich

What you mention is one of the issues with weather, satellite, and many large datasets (i.e., they only show the current data). If you are looking for large scale imagery you can, for example, download LANDSAT satellite imagery (by swath) from http://earthexplorer.usgs.gov and http://landsatlook.usgs.gov . You can also search for USGS DOQ, Aerial Photo Mosaics, etc. LANDSAT and some other satellites also have "decadal" average data sets (e.g., 1990-99, 2000-2009, etc) that allow you to identify such things as vegetation change over time. If you are looking for local, small scale, imagery your best bet will be your States Department of Natural Resources or similar. Rich

The quality of most of the maps and posters was actually pretty sad most had font sizes that were to small for a poster and many used black backgrounds (imagine all the ink that was used). I should have had one in the gallery this year because I would have been guaranteed a spot in the Map Book :-).

Have you considered importing the model as a multipatch feature class into ArcGIS then use the standard project and transformation commands to British Grid? You could then export the result for use in SketchUp. http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//00120000004w000000

I'm not an expert on this, but hope this helps. In CityEngine the default coordinate system is CityEngine CS (Meters). When working with georeferenced data you need to set a valid coordinate system set. There are three methods: Setting a Coordinate System when GeoRef data is added to the scene Setting a CS when creating a new scene Change the scene CS in the preferences When a CS is changed no projection on the fly is done -you are only defining the projection CS for the display. Secondly, geographic CS are not supported AND CityEngine does not support Datum-Transformations. Thus you need to project/reproject your data to a common CS prior to importing into CityEngine. If you have a datum issue it looks like you need to fix it prior to loading into CityEngine More information can be found at : http://cehelp.esri.com/help/index.jsp?topic=/com.procedural.cityengine.help/html/manual/georef/scs.html Rich

you can save the setting in your normal.mxt file. Then the extension will be turned-on every time you startup ArcMap. Downside is it is on every time you startup , which is something many people complain about.

ArcGIS uses your windows internet settings for proxy server information, you should check your IE settings in Tools | Internet Settings | Connections | LAN Settings. You can also install ArcGIS Explorer Desktop and run the Test Connection Speed test to help identify where you have problems (found in ArcGIS Explorer Options | Resources | Test Connection Speed). The issue will be permissions related or a physical problem with the shapefile itself. To validate the health of the shape file follow the instructions found at: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//005600000010000000 On the security side be sure the person editing has full control over all the files utilized by the shapefile. Some patches you may try loading are found at http://support.esri.com/en/downloads/patches-servicepacks/view/productid/66/metaid/2026 Try theses, especially if you have a large number of fields in the shapefile or use cut and paste to copy features. Hope these help.

The answer is YES if you are talking about ArcGIS Desktop 10.2.x. Do the following: 1. Turn on the Drawing toolbar in ArcMap 2. Draw your graphics 3. Select your graphic points, lines, or polygons graphics - can't "mix" the data types 4. Right click on your Data Frame (e.g., "Layers" by default) in the Table of Contents 5. Select Convert Graphics to Features <-- this is new at 10.2 There are code samples to do this in ArcScripts as well at http://arcscripts.esri.com/details.asp?dbid=14751 Rich

Is your Shapefile located on a share drive? That may be the issue. Also, there were several patches that addressed Shapefile support in ArcGIS Desktop 10.2.x.
