I can't find any add-ins in arcgis.com. How can I find all the add-ins for arcgis explorer desktop? this is really frustrating. I used to be able to navigate to a repository, now it is more difficult. If you are searching for content at the http://www.arcgis.com site. Make sure you are searching "all content" and not just 'web content' Mark

Maybe I'm imagining things, but didn't Explorer used to be able to display map tips before 1700? I can't get them to work anymore on layer files. Also, I can't get popups to display for layer files that consist of a feature class with a table joined to it. This used to work fine in 1500, and I haven't made any changes except installing 1700. Is anyone else experiencing this? I have reproduced both of these problems in ArcGIS Explorer 1700 and we will be working to fix these regressions. In summary: ArcGIS Layers (layer files .lyr and Layer Packages .lpk) no longer show maptips when viewedin 2D. (the maptips do display in 3D) ArcGIS Layers (layer files .lyr and Layer Packages .lpk) with joins do not display a popup window when the feature is clicked. Mark

I opened the KML in Google Earth and ArcGIS Explorer 2D (Greek coordinate system) and it looks like it lines up? Is there more that you can tell me about what you are seeing? Mark

The error may indicate that the URL(s) for the services used in the basemap cannot be accessed by your computer. This is sometimes seen in organizations that use proxy servers or block specific sites. If you open the attached NMF file does it display the World Topo service? From Add Content in ArcGIS Explorer, can you: Add GIS Services... New Server Connection Server Type: ArcGIS Server Server: http://services.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/services Click next to connect. You should see a number of services, and you should be able to add them. If you cannot add the server connection or services, there is something about your internet settings or configuration that is blocking access. If the BaseMaps from the basemap gallery do not work, but you can open the attached NMF or connect directly to the services, the following URL may not be accessible, and needs to be, for the basemaps to work. http://www.esri.com/software/basemaps/basemaps.xml Specifically for the Bing Basemap you need access to the following URL(s): http://serverapi.arcgisonline.com/ http://t0.tiles.virtualearth.net/ <-- Microsoft servers For OpenStreetMap: http://a.tile.openstreetmap.org Mark

ArcReader supports local disconnected geocoders. It does require that you publish your map as a PMF file (publisher extension). ArcReader is read only and the user experience is different from ArcGIS Explorer, but it may be able to do what you need???

release date according to the developer summit video is May 31st? http://resources.arcgis.com/gallery/video/arcgis-explorer/details?entryID=E14E67E7-1422-2418-7FF8-F3805BDC97E4 I wasn't too far off when I scheduled that date, currently we are scheduled to have ArcGIS Explorer available for download the week of June 5th. Some on the team have already started working on the next release... I won't be writing any dates down for that one yet 🙂 Mark

My best guess is that it is due to your graphics card and possibly resolved by installing a new driver, (if new drivers are available) or maybe graphics card settings. This is specifically for a case where you see your windows background displaying where the map should be displaying. Mark

Daniel, I downloaded the LPK and opened it up in ArcGIS Desktop. The layer is broken when I open it in ArcMap. When I look at the package location (browse windows explorer) there is no data in the package, only the LYR file. It would seem something went wrong with the creation of the layer package. Might be best to resolve this one through Technical Support, rather than the forum. Mark

Do you see the thumbnail image for the basemap if you enter this url? http://www.esri.com/software/basemaps/basemap2.png Since you can see the XML at the basemap location, maybe you have something in place on your network that blocks the downloading of files? basemap2.nmf is at the same location. All of the basemaps reference their data from http://services.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/services If you try adding the ArcGIS Server mapservice from http://services.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/services does that work? Joel, can you add GIS Services directly from the ArcGIS Online server. On the Ribbon Home Tab Click Add Content Click GIS Services New Server Connection And enter in the this URL: http://services.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/services You should see a variety of services listed. The ArcGIS Explorer basemaps (default map) uses services from this server. Mark

The machines that are not displaying the symbols properly may need to have the Expansion pack for fonts installed. http://resources.arcgis.com/content/arcgis-explorer/1500/download This is especially true if you symbols are made up of characters from esri fonts. as an added tip, if you have 3D analyst. Using 3D markersymbols (even when authoring in arcmap) that reference .png files work best for symbolizing points. Mark
