Agreed, Xander, but I think Steve still has a point in that the help documentation ought to have a warning about this somewhere. Or maybe a link to a troubleshooting guide.

Also a relevant point: our amazing consultant Todd Lighthizer found a way to change the color scheme of the popup at least. I believe you still can't choose the color, but it does give a way to have a more neutral palette. Here are the themes you can choose: DojoX Charting Theme Previewer I haven't learned how to change it yet, but once I know I'll respond back.

Hi Annina, We are creating an ops dashboard for each tab. That's what gives us the overall count (all precincts totaled) in a pie chart. That's embedded in an iframe on the side panel. So that's working well, but the issue is there's not a way to make that work for the individual precinct level. As you can see below, in the popup we really need the pie chart to show individual precinct results. If the colors were just configurable, that would meet our needs perfectly.

Katie Cullen We're using story maps for election night results reporting (specifically the story map series, where we can have a tabbed layout to show the results for multiple contests in one app). Having a popup show a pie chart with results for an individual precinct was the only thing that would satisfy my elections staff (see reasons below). But as I'm sure you can imagine, colors on an election map are crucial. If we have red show up for Democratic candidates, we will get all sorts of confusion, and look unprofessional. This change, as far as I'm concerned, is the top priority for our organization. Reasons for the need for a pie chart in the popup: Bar charts don't sort the way we would want them to. Bar charts can get too lengthy when there are 27 candidates for governor. Pie charts de-emphasize candidates with a tiny fraction of the votes. Our primary audience for election night results are elected officials who want to know why they are winning or losing a contest. For this reason, individual precinct results are crucial, and viewing the total votes for all candidates is imperative. Our experience with other arcgis online solutions: Ops dashboard doesn't provide the tabbed interface we're looking for (the tabs are small and at the bottom) Web App Builder has an elections widget, but it also doesn't have that nice tabbed interface. The widget seems to focus too heavily on the individual precinct. Our users want to start with a general overview of the contest (or multiple contests), then click on key precincts to get the finer details. From what I've seen, the elections widget starts by having you click a precinct or type in an address, then shows you the contests relevant to that individual precinct. If you want to find information about a specific contest, you have to know which precincts cover that contest, or guess until you find one. Like I said before, this is very important to our GIS program. Elections are one of our highest visibility projects, so we need to be able to make these maps have the right information and colors. I'm happy to talk more to help you understand our need and why the other solutions aren't working for us.

Looks like this ArcGIS idea was posted in 2012 and is still "Under Review." I think this has just not been a priority for some reason. https://community.esri.com/ideas/5989

Hi all, I’m reaching out for help on this. We have a very limited time frame to get this done, so any help you can give is greatly appreciated! There’s a bit to it, so I’m going to try to make this post easy to read. Problem: We’ve gotten the word that we need to be showing vote totals (for all reporting precincts) for each contest. Any idea how we do this? What we need to include: Total votes so far Top vote-getter Preferably a chart showing vote totals for each candidate Format: I’m hoping to do this in the Map Series story map template, and would like it to be in the side panel if possible. See below for an example. We want this to update whenever we update the data. Data structure: Below is our feature class table. We will have vote totals (Total Ballots field) coming in by precinct on election night, but currently we don’t have a field totaling those up. We also have a related table (see below) with totals for each precinct by candidate. Solutions needed: A way to calculate or pass into the story map the vote totals for each candidate Is there a SUM operator somewhere in ArcGIS Online or Arcade that we could make use of? If we have to create new tables on the back end, what's the best way to do that and tie it in to the story map? Some method of displaying those totals in a chart or table, preferably in the side panel of the story map. A pie chart would be ideal, but a table or just dynamic text would work as well. We really want this to be dynamic; we don't want to have to update a static picture manually.

Typically when I'm making a map I'll choose a non-default font that I want to use throughout my labels and map surrounds. The problem is every time I open the font menu it jumps down to the current font. I then have to scroll all the way up to the "Recent fonts" section to easily find the font I'm trying to use. I think a solution to this is to "lock" the recent fonts section at the top of the menu. That way the menu could still open to the current font (which is helpful if you're trying out several fonts), but also show the recent fonts (or perhaps a new "favorites" section).

I think this comment should be marked as the correct answer, since the other one answers a different question.

I just deleted the last two of my questions just fine (and that didn't fix anything) but it won't let me delete my third-to-last question. I'm assuming this is the issue. I'm going to try refreshing the page and re-making the questions.

Hi James, thanks for the quick response! No, I didn't copy any questions. I'll try removing questions one by one. As a side note, thanks for the training you put on in Sacramento several months back. I'm finally getting a chance to use that knowledge.

I'm building a Survey123 in the online builder, and at first it would let me save just fine. But now when I try to save, it just gives me the error "the question has not question component." The details say the same thing. It's really strange, and Google hasn't yielded any results. I don't want to simply refresh, because I most likely will lose all changes since the last save. I'm on google Chrome Version 65.0.3325.181 (Official Build) (64-bit) Has anyone seen this error before? EDIT: I deleted the last two of my questions just fine (and that didn't fix anything) but it won't let me delete my third-to-last question. I'm assuming this is the issue.

Thanks, I had seen that earlier, but it looks like that's done through arcGIS online. Is there a way to do it in Pro only?
