Great idea. I had exactly that scenario last week with a user asking why the layers all revert to default visibility every time they open the map. I had to prepare them their own dedicated version with the visibility set to their preference.

I'm using the Situational Awareness widget within Web AppBuilder in ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1. I've configured somewhere between 10 and 20 different layers to be queried for an area of interest and if there are more than 10 tabs with features in then the download all option doesn't work fully. It will only download the last 10 tabs that it finds values in (as in the right most 10 as they are presented to the user). The user can still go in and choose to manually download the CSVs for the missing tabs but it adds an extra level of fiddling. Just wondering if anyone else experiences the same in Enterprise 10.9 or AGOL and if it's an issue with the widget or more of a browser issue (am using Edge Chromium 93.0.961.52)? Thanks Gareth

Hi Jayanta, I get what you're saying but if a COUNT of 0 means no feature/record then why not show (or at least give the option for) the No Data label instead? That way the user has the choice of showing whatever they want including a 0 and it is consistent with other statistics returned. I'll maybe suggest this as an idea for enhancement. Regards Gareth

I have a dashboard in AGOL which was created before the September 2021 update (not sure if that's relevant but thought I'd mention). I have an indicator based on a feature layer which for the majority of the time will have no records in but occasionally will have some records. The indicator is set to use a statistic as the value type and to return a COUNT on the OBJECTID field. When there are no records in the dataset the value returned is 0 rather than being no data. However if I change the statistic to SUM and point it at any numeric field then the no data message is returned rather than a 0. I can make use of the No data label settings to simulate the number 0 in this instance but the text formatting options are different between no data labels and the indicator text, so it's tricky to replicate these exactly if I want to show two similar indicators side by side, one with a count and one with a sum. Just wanted to see if anyone knew if this is expected behaviour or if there is any other workaround to try and achieve the desired effect. Thanks Gareth

I've just created a hosted feature service in ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1 with various point layers and related tables. My workflow is generally working ok but in doing some basic testing I've noticed an issue with the photo orientation from an iOS Field Maps client. These are the steps I'm taking: Add new record in related table Press add photo button Take a portrait photo Press use photo Return back to data entry form Now at this stage before submitting the record the photo thumbnail that is being shown in the form is rotated 90 degrees anti-clockwise, as is the full image when I tap to view. So this is happening in the client rather than anything to do with the server (as far as I can tell). When I submit the record and look at it in the web map in a PC web browser then the attachment is incorrectly rotated. I've done a similar test with an Android client and get a different result. In this case the portrait photo that I capture on the device is correctly orientated but it's been stretched to be landscape orientation - so the aspect ratio is all messed up. However when I upload this one to the server and view on PC it's correct in both orientation and aspect ratio. Have just also tried this in a different map in iOS to see if it was something about my configuration and I get the same issue. I'm not aware of having set anything in the map config relating to photo sizes or orientation. iOS client version is 21.2.2 build 465 and Android is 21.2.2 build 401.

Thanks for the very comprehensive response @OwenGeo I'm going to give your suggestion for use case 2 a go and will try recreating some of our existing content in the new StoryMaps app. Will report back for the benefit of anyone else who is aiming to achieve the same once I've tried.

Yes I have seen similar things happen in ArcGIS Enterprise , particularly when working with hosted service views but also had a problem with traditional map services. In my experience it was only ever occurring in dashboards, not in the web map view or in web app builder apps. In the case of the traditional map service it seemed to go away when I republished the service from Pro (had previously been from ArcMap). I've never quite got to the bottom of it with the hosted services and have been meaning to raise a support ticket with ESRI about it. I think it is possibly related to what is described in this thread Solved: Error: <circle> attribute cx: Expected length, “Na... - Esri Community If you turn on your browser's developer tools console do you get the error messages seen in the thread above about attribute x/y expected length NaN? That's what I get in my example 10.8.1 dashboard based on a hosted feature layer view (works fine if I use the original hosted service instead of the view).

We've used the classic Story Map Series templates quite a bit, both for public facing apps on AGOL and internal apps on Enterprise. The main benefit of the Series template as I see it is the ability to synchronise the location between maps and have different data layers visible - essentially guiding the user through the data you want them to see, as opposed to them having to go into some form of layer list and turn different layers on and off. Some examples of this are here: Environmental Investigations (arcgis.com) Bristol Avon Catchment Explorer (arcgis.com) I don't think this functionality is there within the Collections product, but would be very happy to learn otherwise!

I've found in Enterprise 10.8.1 that if you share the map with the organisation then it is available to use in Field Maps but only by doing a search for the item rather than it just being listed as available. There was a similar question raised a couple of weeks ago here which prompted me to raise an idea about adding the organisational gallery option to Field Maps in the same way as it works in Explorer.

The Explorer app has a useful feature which takes advantage of the organisational gallery setting to display the contents of a featured group to users without those users needing to be a member. We use this for sharing a set of three or four core maps that we want all users to be able to see without having to search. Currently the only way to provide the equivalent in Field Maps is to have users search for the maps which have been shared at the organisation level or to ensure they are all members of a group which the maps are shared to. Example below shows the featured group in Explorer dialogue for a user who is not a member of any groups

Definitely need this functionality when comparing river flow data against water quality sample data - the values cover such different ranges that the chart is unusable without a second Y axis.

I guess a possible workaround would be to have a group for specific maps that you want to share with everyone at your organisation level and make use of the default groups setting for new users to ensure that everyone is in that group. The Explorer app has a useful feature which takes advantage of the organisational gallery setting to display the contents of a featured group to users without those users needing to be a member. We use this for sharing a set of three or four core maps that we want all users to be able to see without having to search. Do you think the same functionality might come to Field Maps at some point?

Hi Glen, Was looking for confirmation about the location tracking layers not being able to be shared to the public from AGOL and came across your post. This is an interesting approach to make use of QuickCapture instead of FieldMaps and something that I will take a look at. You mention that applying this method to multiple users could be problematic but do you think it could be robust enough to support a few separate users? Our use case is to start tracking our small fleet (three at most) of company buses which run staff between the office and train station and have the info appear on a publicly available map. Feels like the options of GeoEvent or Velocity would be overkill for this scenario. Thanks Gareth

Thanks Aaron. I guess we were just too eager to get going with Field Maps when it was released at 10.8.1! The install that we used was called ArcGIS_FieldMaps_Windows_20.4.0_176767.exe and I can see that the latest MyEsri version is ArcGIS_FieldMaps_Windows_20.4.0_177408.exe We'll probably have to do this under a change control procedure which will take a while but I will report back afterwards.
