I have an editable feature service (not hosted) where the data sits in an enterprise geodatabase (SQL Server) published from Pro 2.4.2 to the hosting server in ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1. The service contains several point feature classes and a couple of line feature classes. Not sure if I'm encountering a bug or just something to do with the way I've configured things. In the Field Maps web app I have made some fairly simple forms for each feature class with a few of the fields set as required and some nice hints and formatting. When it comes to trying to submit a line feature in Field Maps 21.1.1 build 396 on iOS I get the error message below saying Unable to Submit due to an attribute failing - in this case what is shown as the Length field which is Shape__Length in my database. I am unable to edit the length field on the form in Field Maps and wouldn't want to anyway because it should get automatically calculated for me. I'm also unable to remove the field from the form in Field Maps web app because it is a required field and I don't think I can make it a non-required field (and again probably wouldn't want to). If I open the same map in Collector (Aurora 20.2.4 build 2851) then the Length field does not appear on the editing pop-up and I can submit features with the field getting automatically populated behind the scenes successfully. If I add the feature service to a new map, don't do any form config in Field Maps web app and then open up in Field Maps iOS client then the Length field is also not shown and I can submit records. In both cases I'm assuming this is because form data is being ignored in Collector and it just isn't there in Field Maps. I guess I can live with not having any Field Maps form config saved with the map at this stage but would be good to know if this is a known issue that will be resolved in Enterprise 10.9 or if there are any other workarounds? Thanks in advance Gareth

I'm guessing you are making changes to your maps in the standard/classic map viewer? This is a known issue with Enterprise as mentioned here in the documentation. You can either try making your changes in Map Viewer Beta (which doesn't necessarily have all the functionality as classic) or try to leave your form configuration to the very last step once you're happy with the map settings (easier said than done I know because there will always be just one more tweak!).

Have you created and published a relationship between your wells layer and the table that you want to record water levels in? I think if that is published as part of your service then you should just be able to click on your well and have a related record created in the levels table automatically.

Just wondering if there is a similar problem introduced now with barcode scanning as a result of the new versions of the apps and the (understandable) lag for the next Enterprise release? Prior to the client update I had a map with a text field that I'd configured in Field Maps Enterprise 10.8.1 and I think I was just able to make use of the general barcode capability within the apps to scan barcodes. Having gone back to the same map with updated client apps (21.1.0 on both iOS and Android) that functionality no longer seems to be there and I don't have the ability to configure that in the web app as yet. Or am I just missing something somewhere?

Just to say there are also settings in the Outlook app on iOS to control which browser to open links with. This is also set to Safari but again is being ignored and links are opening up in Edge.

Hi Colin, Did a bit of testing with this by uninstalling Field Maps and installing directly from Apple store (I knew it was outside of Intune because our Intune config has the portalURL parameter set and that wasn't being applied in this case). Unfortunately it didn't seem to make a difference, just kept opening up Edge. The browser settings on the device are slightly strange - the default browser was actually set to Safari but that seems to be ignored and Edge just opens up. Tried changing it to Chrome but again Edge kicks in - I will ask someone in our IT team if there is some sort of Intune policy that overrides the default browser and forces it to open Edge. If so then that could be having an effect on behaviour of Field Maps links.

Hi Doug, I've tried a few different variations including: https://fieldmaps.arcgis.app/?referenceContext=search&itemID= b47a269835f54388b8efffcd96e3112a&search=TDKINGEP_03 https://fieldmaps.arcgis.app/?referenceContext=open&itemID=b47a269835f54388b8efffcd96e3112a And then for luck I also tried it with the portalURL setting (ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1). Just double checked the webmap ID is correct too. iOS version is 14.4.1 and Field Maps is 20.2.1 build 264 Just checked on another iOS device with the same build/settings and I have the same issue of Edge opening up. I noticed that some of the examples in the documentation have a slash before the question mark and some don't. However that doesn't seem to make a difference to the behaviour. I'll maybe have a go at removing the app and installing with/without Intune to see if that makes a difference.

I'm trying to get my head around offline map packages and how we can best use them within our organisation (a UK water utility). We have a nice VTPK for our whole area which is around 1gb in size and gets updated a couple of times a year. At the moment we don't have a slick process for sideloading this VTPK onto devices so I'm just looking at the standard process of creating offline map packages certain editing maps. In my example map we have our VTPK along with a set of read-only boundaries which might get updated once a month. I then have two editable features services (one hosted in Portal 10.8.1 and one published from ArcGIS Server 10.8.1). I've created a test offline area with min level of detail 1:6,000,000 and max level of detail 1:400. Total package size is 115mb which is broken down as follows: VTPK - 113mb Read only boundaries - 1.4mb Editable layer 1 - 344k Editable layer 2 - 684k I have not scheduled any automatic updates for this area but I can see the option to manually refresh either the whole package or the individual components. So my questions are: If I set the map area to update automatically at say 11pm each day would this recreate all components of the map package including the VTPK and the boundaries, even though on most occasions they won't have changed? Or is it clever enough to detect the layers that have changed and only update those? If I choose not to do any automatic updates via this mechanism is there the option to use the ArcGIS API for Python or similar to script scheduled updates to only the two editable layers? Or would I have to do that process myself manually?

Would add my support for this feature. It would be great if a map that has offline areas created can also be used in online mode. I would estimate that 95% of the time our field crews have a data signal so can work online and get the benefits of immediate update of data and access to data for the full extent of our region. The offline areas are really only there for those exceptional times when no service is available. The way I would get around this for now is to have two copies of the same map - one for offline use and another for online use - but then obviously any config changes need to be carried out in both copies.

I'm trying to open the Field Maps app on iOS from a link that I've emailed to myself following the guidelines here: Deploy your map—ArcGIS Field Maps | Documentation As far as I can tell I'm using the correct syntax but whenever I click on a link it opens up the Edge browser on my phone and goes to a page where it prompts me to download Field Maps from either the Apple or Google Play store. The app is already installed on the device via Microsoft Intune so how do I force it to open that instance of the app rather than open the web browser?

@DougBrowning I was trying to be efficient by only pulling back the fields that I needed but have changed it to return all fields and my expressions are now working in Field Maps 😀 Thanks for sharing the info about the bug - hopefully can get fixed soon.

I've just run into similar problems with ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1. I have four separate attribute expressions set up which make use of FeatureSetByName. They all just look in another (point) layer in the map to return some info. Work perfectly in the browser but then in Field Maps iOS client only one of them returns a value. The Arcade code is identical in each expression except for different field names that they return. Example in browser Same record in Field Maps

Getting similar reports from some of our field crews using Explorer on Android phones (mix of some managed by Intune and some just standard installs). FWIW I agree that the certificate install technical solution is really not practical for any organisation with more than a handful of users. Edit: just to say this is ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1

Hi, I'm just trying to get my head around the workflows for creating and downloading offline map areas in 10.8.1 and the Explorer app. I've prepared a test map and set the advanced options to use a vtpk that I've already sideloaded onto the device. I've then created a test area in the map which uses a raster tile package as the basemap. I did wonder why it created a tile package for the area when I've said to use the vtpk on the device but I guess this allows it to work where a different user may not have that specific basemap sideloaded. So I have my very small operational data package and then around 80mb of basemap. When I go to view the offline area in Explorer (iOS) I can see that the size of the package it wants to download is the 80mb rather than just the few hundred kb. If I click to download it gives me the impression that it is downloading the full 80mb (though it is difficult to tell because it does go pretty quickly via my relatively speedy broadband connection). Once downloaded it certainly looks as if it has downloaded the full 80mb of data including the basemap (which I don't actually want because I have my nice sideloaded version already on the device). If I pull down on the screen to refresh the details then the file size magically updates to exclude the basemap and just show the operational layers. When I open the map area and start using it then it is correctly using the vtpk basemap from the device. My question is whether I've just been fooled into thinking that the basemap part of the package was downloaded or if it did go ahead and just download the whole thing, only disregarding the basemap part once it had checked that the sideloaded vtpk that it was expecting to see was actually there? It feels like it must be the former or it would surely defeat the purpose of having sideloaded the basemap, but if that is the case then would it be possible to indicate in the Explorer part of the workflow that it only needs to download the 495kb rather than the 80mb? It would also potentially be useful if the Explorer interface indicated that the offline map area is configured to use a local basemap and even state the name of the package that it expects to use. Also showing the date of when the current downloaded data package (not the basemap) was produced would be useful. I appreciate these bits are more queries for Explorer rather than Enterprise.
