There are several personal and professional issues that a user will encounter due to the lack of displayName being accepted AGOL or Portal. i. A user’s email, business card, and other organization systems, etc. use their preferred name – not given name ii. A user, foreign students/faculty/employee, may use an English-name rather than their ethnic givenname; and users who no longer identify with their gender will prefer to use their preferred name – not given name; iii. When one is sharing maps, apps, and data within their professional community (or the public) and peers, it’s respectful for the organization's systems to use their preferred name by which their colleagues and professional counterparts use. It is possible for a user to edit their profile and change their name but it is a point of frustration to have make such an edit when other vendor systems in their org commonly accept displayName - though, if syncing/update is enabled, any edits the user make would be overridden each time they sign-in. A person's first name (and potentially last names with marriage or divorce) and how they wish to be referred to is a large part of a person's identity - having a given name exposed to their peers, colleagues, and public can be an uncomfortable or embarrassing experience.

I am experiencing unexpected behavior with my map services in AutoCAD 2017. Published with Enterprise 10.6 with anti-aliasing set to Best and Text to Forced, the result is as expected in Esri products but unspectacular in AutoCAD. The lines are simple solid lines and the markers are fairly simple as well. I'm not sure what to investigate next to troubleshoot...any ideas?

An aspect of this discussion that should be raised is whether or not to use the built-in accounts vs Enterprise Single-Sign On. When implementing SSO there are functions and scripts that can be used to automate how a new user is added into the organization such as their role, credits, groups etc. Esri has made the integration with SSO much easier with more improvements coming (supposedly) by the end of the year. The reason I raise this is for two parts: 1) with SSO, there is no need to manage new users, an account is automatically created with assigned credits and group access when they sign-in for the first time; 2) Anyone interested in SSO should contact their Esri rep about "functionally unlimited users" which could mean admins not being constantly worried about named user caps -- for some institutions this approach may alleviate the need to delete accounts for students/faculty that have moved on, therefore eliminating the need for an expiry date as well as eliminating the need to deal with content that is connected to maps and apps. That being said, I still believe an expiry date is highly desirable feature that should be implemented whether an org chooses SSO or Built-in accounts. I think there are still some technical issues and best practices that need to be fleshed out but considering the information I've learned this past week I will strongly work towards implementing SSO to reduce admin workload. Re: content in a disabled/deleted account > consider an "archive" named user and move content to this account, individual folders can be made labeled with username for easy search.

This idea needs to be implemented, I'm glad to see it being reviewed! A few additional feature enhancement comments: 1) The expiration date parameters should be tied to a Role, such as "Student" so that all users assigned the role automatically get an expiration date; and admins have the ability to modify a individual manually, if necessary. 2) There should be options for implementation: End date only; Start and End date; or Duration (for next 6 months from Start date) 3) Options for when end date arrives: Disable vs delete (considerations for deletion, all items move to admin or are also deleted) 4) Notifications: - Provide an email notification template wysiwyg view so admins can include important information about who to contact, methods to migrate content, recharge information, or other messages "after 60 days of account being disabled, this account will be deleted and all items X." And, option for the admin to receive a copy of email. - The ability to set notification interval, so messages go out on 60, 30 14, 7, 0 days prior to disable/delete. End-users need be made aware several times, the last thing I want are users complaining they didn't get a notification. 5) Ability to search/filter users by active/disabled; or when accounts expire.

Hi AEC community. I've been suggesting that Pro and WAB add a Gantt chart for planning/logistics purposes. If this seems like a worthy cause then please review the ArcGIS Ideas post https://community.esri.com/ideas/13739 and show support.

I did NOT have success with this. It appears that relationship classes cannot work with a view - which I have to believe is some technical limitation. The table to relationship class tool works great for creating a many-to-many relationship when you have/want to manage an intermediate table between non-view objects.

To follow up I should mention that my original purpose behind this feature request was the ability to pull IFC data from construction management software into Pro that would reconstruct the building and logistics plan in 3D. The IFC data held the schedule data for each activity (most activities include something physical occurring somewhere; fencing installed, mat poured, staging area moved...etc.) so theoretically one could use a timeline to visualize the construction of a building hour-by-hour, day-by-day. But this also works for horizontal projects such a laying utilities. For non-construction use case, imagine law enforcement planning an event which requires things to occur at a certain time. Set up fencing/K-rails for pedestrian access, deliver modules for PD and event staff HQ, setup stage, gates open, place/shift officers at this location and at this time...etc. and then all the clean-up schedule.

We have a real use-case in that we track construction activities for logistical planning. The Gantt is used primarily as a scheduling tool but it provides a nice reporting visualization for our constituents to understand when and where activities take place that may impact properties adjacent or nearby. Impacting traffic, sidewalk accessibility, road/lane closures, events, etc. A particular challenge for us currently is an area where we have over a dozen activities from 4 different contractors. All the activities overlay on top of each other - without a Gantt chart to manage the graphics it's very-very difficult to control/show activities to the stakeholders so they can properly plan and/or avoid each other in the same space. Again, in general, the Gantt chart provides a nice visual report for managers to push notifications to their clients/customers/services. Christoph is correct this type of visualization is in need for construction (and is part of any construction management software) but any type of temporal planning/scheduling typically relies on a Gantt chart. Happy to talk/show/give demo of what we have and our needs.

Agreed, these are much needed filters when dealing with work orders and capital projects. It would be helpful if Esri had a consistent approach to temporal input/query/filter/time-slider configuration across the products (desktop/pro, AGOL/Portal, WAB, field collection). WAB Filter: Web App Builder - Date Filter clauses should be same as in Web App Viewer Gantt Chart: Interactive Gantt Chart (Desktop/Pro/WAB) Also: Filter options for dates in arcgis online features

Any time-based project (think AEC; think emergency preparedness for events/event planning; think indoor/3D...etc) which relies on logistics or seeing data from multiple location (or activity at the same location) uses a Gantt chart view to better understand the data as well as to interact with the data. Requirements: Ability to select Gantt objects and have them highlight in the map and vice versa. A time-slider that can manually or play across the Gantt chart Chart configuration and use should be the same across all apps: Pro, AGOL, WAB, EB Flora Vale

Thanks Russ for the information and quick response - much appreciated. FYI, our purpose for the time-slider in 3D is for transportation, construction planning and coordination, and long-range development planning/master-planning. Considering the time-slider is available in the desktop applications and AGOL 2D, along with the visual factor and importance of temporal data, I'm surprised to learn this feature somehow hasn't yet been implemented in web scenes. At this point the only online solution is an exported AVI to inform the public. Thanks again.

I'd like to confirm that a time-slider is NOT available for 3D web scenes as of January 2017. Are there any plans to add this feature in the next release? Any other solutions others can recommend? Thanks.

The issue is a bug. I spoke with Tech support and it's a known bug that will be fixed in the next release...when ever that is. The feature of accessing local groups & users was available in 10.0 but for some reason was skipped over in 10.1. The issue #: NIM083139. Currently, there is no work-around and I will have to use the Built-In Store for now. Thanks for your reply Justin. The Web Adapter was installed and I made the necessary changes in IIS to enable Windows Authentication. It's good to know I wasn't crazy.

Hi - If I'm understanding you correctly, this means that for a single-machine setup that I can't use the local groups or users (ie existing users from agsadmin or agsusers groups)? That I can't configure the security setting using Web Server Authentication??? I am having the issue where when I press the Test Connection button it doesn't do anything. When I try to finish the configuration for a Web Server Authentication with Web Tier it just hangs. I've uninstalled and re-installed. Thoughts??? Thanks, M.
