This is a great idea! It could be implemented as a separate "List by..." option in the Table of Contents (i.e. List by Tag) and the tags are applied in a drop down on the "Feature Layer" ribbon. If layer has multiple tags assigned, only 1 needs to be selected to make that layer visible. The layer will remain On in the map until all assigned Tags for that layer are turned off. Assigning tags to a Layer: Turning Layers on/off by Tag in Table of Contents: The user could be given more control by implementing the Radio or Checkbox options to enable single or multiple selections in the Table of Contents "List by Tag" pane.

@KoryKramer I've never noticed that little filter option in the Undo menu! This alone will be very handy in the future. In saying that, the idea that layers can be grouped in a manner that doesn't affect their Drawing Order (i.e. by a Tag for example) is a good one. IDEA: Add function to link Layout Element and Map layer Visibility to Bookmarks. This idea initially incorporated map layers as well but have moved that as a comment of another pre-existing idea here: Layer Status Bookmarking - Esri Community I see this working by having a list of checkboxes on a new section of the Element Pane where you can enable Bookmark Linking and set which Bookmarks would make an Element (or group of elements) visible when navigating to the Bookmark. Elements would be turned off when a non-checked Bookmark is selected. Manually moving/changing the map extent would have no further effect. By extension, this could be connected to the Bookmark type of Map Series. Bookmark Linking functionality summary: - If not enabled (not checked), the elements remain as per what you last set them in the Table of Contents (on or off) when you navigate to a Bookmark. - If enabled (checked), then the layers would turn on when a checked Bookmark is navigated to, and off when an un-checked Bookmark is navigated to. - If enabled and no Bookmarks are checked, then it would always turn off when navigating to any Bookmark. This could be a useful way of ensuring that "reference" layers don't display on final map products. I have a layout and am using a series of Bookmarks to focus on different views of a property - an Overview and then 3 Focus maps with more detail. I have Elements in the layout including Statistic boxes (static text as Dynamic text couldn't break down the figures with enough granularity) and other information (i.e. Layout titles, land tenure summaries and locality labels). You can see in the screenshots below the grouped elements that I turn on and off to suit each Bookmark.

When using ArcGIS Pro, we direct a lot of people to the "Portal" component of Catalog to find data, but this is an inaccurate label as we only have ArcGIS Online. In the past when I've referred to Portal, I've been corrected after clearing up confusion that Portal is only for Enterprise setups. IDEA: Change the Portal label to "ArcGIS Online" or "Portal" based on the current Active login. This will help to clarify exactly which environment you are connected to and reflects the language we should be using when talking about the environment you are connected to.

Just tried to look at the "How to" via the link you provided but getting a page error or access permissions error. Was trying to see what roles will be able to use this functionality.

Hi Scott. Thanks for the workaround suggestion! I improved on it slightly too. After using the Continue Feature and Intersection method to continue the line, I then switched back to the Line sketch option and clicked on the Line start point to close the geometry. The process as I described originally would still be more efficient, but this is still an improvement on the other way I had thought of doing it. Thanks!

I'm doing some data cleaning and have a heap of lines that should close to form polygons (or holes in polygons) once constructed. To get there, in the past I would use the Line Intersection tool to close the gaps. See example below. I would simply select the line, then click on the line twice (once each side of the gap) and the third time to confirm the intersection. It appears now that it won't work on self-intersecting lines - only 2 separate features. This isn't ideal as it means I have to split the line first somewhere to then intersect and close the gap. I thought I could use the Extend or Trim tool instead but found this has the same restriction - only extends to a different feature. Is it just me or is this a change from how they worked in the past? My colleague believes they used to allow self-intersection as well.

Agreed! A simpler way of managing domains in ArcGIS Online & Field Maps is desperately needed. We would love to be able to centrally host a list "somewhere" which we could update via python or other programming from something like AD groups, database queries, etc, which end up in Field Maps. Having to manually find the layer and then the field to update lists (many of which apply across layers) is super frustrating.

Been a while since experimenting with this! We work around this by having our Vector Tile Package sideloaded to mobile devices and the webmap set to use the local vtpk when going offline in FIeld Maps Designer. To be honest, I'd forgotten that I couldn't get this working (and just thought it did) but doing some quick tests now before replying shows that when trying to take a map offline with our custom basemap (ESRI Imagery + custom VTPK in the maps basemap group), it errors out on Field Maps. When changed to just the default Imagery basemap, it worked fine. So apparently no, it still doesn't work.

It would be great if there was an option to send messages to Field Maps users. In our org, most users access our ArcGIS Online platform via Field Maps or directly to WebApps from the home page or shortcuts they've saved, meaning banners in ArcGIS Online would likely not catch many users. We rely on email communications to notify staff of changes, etc, but with so much email traffic day-to-day, many don't see these comms until later (or at all).

Great post! I think a lot of us can relate to your "falling in" with GIS. I started life out as a Mining Surveyor (as something to do and that paid well) but GIS is what caught my attention and it's where I've been since quitting my mining gig to take up a role as GIS office for a state gov forestry organisation.

Glad I'm not going nuts! Any suggestions on who we should contact to "petition" that this be a standard inclusion? I don't believe it needs to be available for all user types, but definitely should be for anything "above" mobile worker. That shouldn't preclude the ability to select a purely "office-bound" role from existing as I'm sure that is a legitimate option for many.

As a GIS Professional and org admin, I too wish I could utilise the Location Tracking options in Field Maps, as part of my role does involve field work and fire work - we don't have a lot of room for handing out multiple licenses to users to facilitate both Mobile Work capabilities and Admin responsibilities. It seems illogical that a GIS Professional isn't considered equal to a Mobile Work in terms of capabilities in the mobile app. I find it hard to believe this isn't a commonplace situation.
