Alix Vezina, I have the exact same problem. We were able to do this in ArcGIS Desktop with Production Mapping, although it is a bit of work to set it up. Wondering if it could be easier in https://community.esri.com/community/gis/applications/arcgis-pro. The lack of response to your question is not encouraging. --Adam

Hi Chris, I have been dealing with this bug for quite awhile. The Windows version of https://community.esri.com/community/gis/applications/operations-dashboard-for-arcgis?sr=search&searchId=1cc0fd36-079d-45fc-b9d7-392c58e63ad3&searchIndex=0 is at times the best application for our needs, but this bug and some others get in the way. I say bug because you have known that the JS symbol/expression has been a limitation for a very long time - enough time for a fix or workaround. Moving forward, I was told over a year ago that this new JS browser version of OD would be the replacement that would fix all of my problems. Well, it hasn't yet - because it is still in Beta. If I build an app in this now, I will most likely not be able to use it when the Beta closes. It is also not supported as Production. You see my predicament. I am in the beta program, but I don't have much time to play, considering that I have spent the last month dealing with 10.5.1, three open tickets, one bug, and still no fully operational portal. While I understand that the time spent moving forward to new products is important, we sometimes have to weigh that with time spent fixing the old stuff with bugs - especially if it takes forever to get that new product into production. --Adam

endlessdsire, Did you try just adding it to an map and setting the layer's refresh setting there? I am using this now at the 0.1 setting (which equals 6 seconds) and it works well for over 800 tracked vehicles at a time. Maybe checking the service here could help to isolate the issue? I do not believe that a setting of 0.01 (0.6 seconds) will help you at all because the user's queries to the service and subsequent screen refresh would just tie up your application and you would not be able to see anything at all. I am also not aware of the data source of your service. I know, past a certain number of vehicles at a certain rate of position refresh, my SQL server cannot keep up with writing position updates AND handling user queries. Thought I might mention that as a possible chokepoint. I do know that the ArcGIS Data Store configured as Spatiotemporal can handle much more throughput. I am going to be using this in the near future to support all of our real-time data services. --Adam

Depending on how you have your inputs and outputs set up, you need to then watch what this might affect. This may cause a provider service or client to disconnect, and then need to be restarted. I like the idea only IF there is an option to shut it off for specific active connectors. Hopefully I was able to describe that well enough from a non-developer or non-technical perspective.

OK -- so let's do this again.... I just received a call from Esri Customer Service. They let me know that this occurred due to recent server (like Microsoft Server) patches meant to combat the recent ransomware attacks. My understanding (probably not completely accurate, but...): There is a new identification element of the SSL conversation added by the patches. The reason why this works in the Browser version of Operations Dashboard for ArcGIS and not in the Windows App version is because your browser is handling the SSL conversation, and it knows exactly what is needed. When they made OD, this element was not required, so they did not add it - so now it is an enhancement. CS has assured me that the Development Team is making this a high priority enhancement. Charles and dhorsey_DFES, Customer Support wants to put this in as an "Enhancement Request". I wrote back requesting that it be made a BUG report and be given attention to promptly because as we have seen, this worked before. It needs to be fixed so it works again.

Hi GeoDesk Wag-Univ - Roland, If you are just trying to get events from one GeoEvent Server to another GeoEvent Server instance, you could just use inbound and outbound connectors already provided. I use both the Text to TCP Socket and JSON inbound and outbound to accomplish this - and at times to reformat and provide a feed to another input on the same server. I am back on v10.4.1, so things may have changed, but for an example, a Text to TCP in and out: You may need to copy and modify the Receive and Publish Text from/to a TCP Socket connectors. I do this to eliminate the need to restart the receive connector if the feed pauses or stops for any reason. Copy the Receive Text from a TCP Socket connector: It will open a new copy of the connector: As shown above, you need to expose the "Mode", "Host (Client Mode)" and "Connection Timeout (Client Mode)" out of Hidden Properties and into the Shown Properties box with the left arrow button. You can then define Client Mode and define the host name and port providing the data. On the Outgoing side, you copy and modify the Publish (output) version of this connector, move the same properties, then open and define "Server" Mode and the port you want to use. That should give you transfer of data from one GeoEvent Server to the other. All of the other functions that you speak of are available to you when you create a service. (filtering by bounding box, filtering by query, selecting fields) --Adam geoevent geoevent server connectors outbound inbound real-time

This is available within Operations Dashboard for ArcGIS. I just have not been successful with it on rapidly changing datasets of 700 or more records in a SQL based SDE. I need to try it with #big data store backed Services. .

Hi Again James, I don't know if I am going to be helping at this point, but let's see what we can do. The example that I showed you is from vehicles on our radio network. One of my servers is polling each radio in each vehicle. The packets containing location information (along with velocity and time data) then get sent to our GeoEvent Server installation. In GeoEvent, I send each packet through a process that generates bearing and the categories that you saw (if speed = 0 then GPS_Status = "Stopped"). GeoEvent then writes this to a Feature Class in my enterprise geodatabase. I then create a Web Service from that Feature Class that I place in my Web Map. The Web Map then goes into the Operations Dashboard. I created the GPS_Status field originally to just display if the GPS receiver was delivering an accurate location. I did not like the fact that I got an arrow pointing North when a vehicle stopped, so I added the "Moving" and "Stopped" categories. So, I have the option to craft my service - you don't at this moment. Staying with the categories topic, you can add categories by symbolizing on a field at the Web Map level. That is, if you have the information that you want to symbolize on in a field of the Feature Service. For example: When the Option button is clicked, you would see the options in my first reply to you. The symbology options can be edited there. BUT - take it one step further. Make a copy of your Feature Service in the Web Map. In that copy, look for the Filter button... when you click, you get the filter options that allow multiple and/or statements. In my case, I have incoming AVL packets that have not been configured properly, which happens when a brand new radio with a brand new IP address gets fielded. If my "Label" field is empty, I need to know so I can fix the issue. I can use the same feed and a filter to accomplish that. I just use that Feature Service copy with a filter of "Label is blank" and symbolize with the same symbols - but they are yellow instead of white: I would then go back to the original service and filter it "Label is not blank" so that we don't have both copies showing a symbol for one feature. If you have an "emergency status" field, you could use this type of copy and filter too. Don't filter out of the original copy, just make a highly visible transparent symbol to appear over the original symbol when emergency is declared.... The reason I brought up the "Add a service" versus "Add layer from Web" is because I have had different odd behaviors from the Add Service/search method. If you go to the service description, it should display the REST endpoint link that you can manually add to the Web Map through the "Add layer from Web" method. Next topic: Operations Dashboard for ArcGIS. When you say that you use "Operations Dashboard" (NOT Beta), I am assuming that you are using the downloadable version to view the map? If so, you may want to also try the web-app version. Go to the Operations Dashboard item in your AGOL and click the little arrow next to the "Open" link and select the one that says (Browser). It isn't the same nice environment, but it may isolate the problem to the Windows application. Be aware that the other version of the OD is the Beta version - the eventual replacement for the current OD. It is not complete yet. You will not have certain options that you now have until it is complete. If this doesn't get you to where you want to be, we should talk on the phone. Just ArcGIS Desktop is not going to be enough. Drop me your number in a PM and we can talk. --Adam

James Dickens, A couple of questions: Is your asset feed service a Feature Service or a Web Service? If Feature Service, did you configure the symbology and rotation via the Web Map interface or are you relying on the service you created within Desktop and Server to do the rotation? How did you add the service to the Web Map? Did you add it "Add - Search for Layers" or "Add - Add Layer from Web" and paste the REST endpoint? I have had different results for many elements (like pop-ups and labeling) with number 3 above, but not for ROTATION. It works for me. It sounds like the positions are updating, but no rotation. Correct? Try adding the layer with the "Add Layer From Web" if you haven't done that already. Let me know what you get. --Adam
