Zachary: AGX Desktop 1750 can consume secure services from ArcGIS for Server 10.11. The AGX 1750 map with secure services can be saved and opened with AGX 2500. Although the current build of AGX 2500 cannot see secure services from Server 10.11 it can open maps that contain secure services.

Zachary: ArcGIS Online for Organizations does support adding secure services. One cannot add a secure service directly into the map, but can add a secure service to a Content folder and then bring that into a map. In your My Content window, click on the Add Item button to add a secure service.

I have a map in ArcGIS Online for Organizations that contains a map service from our ArcGIS for Server and contains a point shapefile "added" within the map. The point shapefile is the same dataset located in the map service and it contains 812 points. "Perform Analysis" tools are not an option with any data layers in the map service. "Perform Analysis" tools are available for the shapefile layer, but seem to fail to complete the task. I tried "Find Hot Spots" and "Create Buffers" with the point shapefile. When I make a second attempt with "Find Hot Spots", I get a message that says "You already have a result with this name. Please rename your result and resubmit your analysis.", but I see no results in the map's table-of-contents or in the "My Content" folders. Two Questions: 1) For what types of features are Perform Analysis tools available? Features in an added shapefile, map service, hosted feature service? 2) Where do the results of an analysis get placed upon completion? Sincerely, Joe

Server Setup: -Windows Server 2008, R2 -IIS 7.5 -ArcGIS for Server 10.1, SP1 -GIS Server Authentication Tier -Windows Authentication | Active Directory -ArcGIS Explorer for Desktop (AGX) 1750 and 2500 I have added one map service from our secure ArcGIS for Server into AGX and saved it as a new NMF file. The map service contains 50 data layers from one source - our SDE SQL geodatabase. With security turned on, it takes five minutes to open the NMF map file using both AGX 1750 and 2500. If I set the security to "Public, available to everyone" at the map service folder level on ArcGIS for Server, it takes 45 Seconds to open the same NMF file. Using a secure map service that contains only eight data layers, AGX 1750/2500 maps open in thirty seconds. It appears that secure map services with many data layers takes forever to open in ArcGIS Explorer Desktop. I am unable to test the performance of secure map services in ArcGIS Online for Organizations, since AGO currently has a bug that does not allow the loading/saving/sharing of secure services. Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?

Build 2500 was released last week. Some items created in ArcMap 10.1 will not work in versions of AGX earlier than 2500. To find your build... Click on the orb in the upper left-hand corner Choose the ArcGIS Explorer Options button at the bottom of the dialog window Click on the Resources button in the table of contents on the left side See the bottom item - About ArcGIS Explorer You should see something like: ESRI ArcGIS Explorer 1750 (2.0.0.1750)

Mark: I have been doing more testing on many laptops with many users. My results are attached to this message. Yes - I am able to see this site (http://www.arcgis.com/arcgisuris.xml) in a browser. My feeling is that the issue is somehow related to the user's profile in Windows 7 (64-bit). For all but one of my test cases, it seems that users who have an established profile on the laptop, the install succeeds and the basemap gallery is populated. In one case, a "Local" user was created and that new profile, off domain, had a successful install and displayed maps in the basemap gallery. Otherwise, users with a new profile do not see the items in the basemap gallery and have a failed ArcGIS Connection and ArcGISConnectionBin.exe connection in the notification area of the service tray. The IT guys cannot think of any recent changes that may have been made to Active Directory or domain settings. Joe

I performed a silent "Per User" install on two new/clean Lenovo X230 laptops (Windows 7 SP1, 64-bit) with ArcMap installed and all went as expected except the basemaps did not load on either laptop. I went to the AGX button in the upper left-hand corner, >ArcGIS Explorer Options >Advanced >Delete All Caches and the basemaps did not install. I uninstalled and reinstalled AGX 2500 "Per User" and the issue persists. I uninstalled the "Per User" version and installed the AGX 2500 "Admin" version and the issue persists. On a second Lenovo laptop with ArcMap installed, the install worked perfectly with basemaps available. This laptop had AGX 2013beta "Admin" version installed previously. Q: Can AGX 2500 "Per User" be installed on a machine that has ArcMap installed? On a third Lenovo laptop without ArcMap installed and AGX having never been installed, the install went fine, the table-of-contents was empty, but the basemap gallery was populated with options. A basemap was chosen and appeared in the TOC and in the map frame as expected. On three other Lenovo laptops that have had AGX 1750 installed previously, installs of 2500 are not showing the empty basemap behavior. The basemaps gallery appears populated in all these scenarios. After the install of 2500 and first time opening the map application, the default nmf is not automatically installed at: C:\Users\user\Documents\ArcGIS Explorer. The user needs to hit the Save button and the "My Default Map.nmf" is automatically pointed at C:\Users\user\Documents\ArcGIS Explorer.
